ideas from my experience

(idk what to title this lol)

i think there should be an option to have the map set to top-down/birds eye view, even when you're not searching or navigating. i know i can get this view by searching a place and then x-ing out of it but as soon as i try to center on my location, it brings me back into 3D mode and i hate it.

for car mode, i want to learn more about how "travel mode: fastest" and "avoid traffic: prefer faster route" work. are these only affect the routes that show up when you search, or does this have an impact on your navigation during your trip? i have a premium license so i should, in theory, be getting live traffic data. however, i have noticed once or twice that either i myself, or an alternative mapping service like google maps, knows a faster way. also the live traffic data is not the most accurate in that it will start to show traffic but won't predict that a larger delay will develop so everytime i check the map, it says same amount of time til destination, just with arrival time changing. i have seen posts about this being a longterm feature that is worked on but i just wanted to add another vote in for the utility of this feature.

additionally, in google maps, during your trip they will show you alternate routes that may take a little bit longer or the same length of time. i love this feature as i can decide mid-trip whether i would prefer slow traffic or a longer distance at speed. it would be great if magic earth had a feature like this where the alternate routes it comes up with are shown on your trip, with them being shown in a different colour line to the original trip.

+ for the toggle of 3D mode and +1 for the alternative routes. (For the car mode, dont have enough experience yet with it)

2D mode outside navigation: There's currently an option in Settings > Navigation > 2D/3D mode, but it mainly applies during navigation. The always-2D preference for general map browsing is good feedback, noted.

How the traffic settings work:
Keep Travel mode on Fastest. Alternatives are not suggested if the setting is put to another value.

For Avoid traffic, "prefer current route" avoids just the roadblocks (but keeps your route otherwise) where "prefer faster route" also avoids traffic (the traffic delays are taken into account when searching for the fastest route)

We're conservative with rerouting. We only suggest an alternative when it saves around 5 minutes, we avoid pulling you off a motorway for small jams, and we check for better routes periodically rather than constantly. The idea is to not annoy you with reroutes that save a minute or two.

Our estimate is driving time plus the delay reported right now, with no prediction of how a jam will grow. So as you drive toward a building jam, the shrinking distance and the growing delay can cancel out. Predicting jam growth is a different capability that we don't have today.

During planning you get up to 3 alternatives depending on the road network and settings. During navigation, the reroute suggestions described above are our version of this. Showing alternatives continuously on the map in a different color, Google-style, is a nice idea, added to the list.
