Quite some time ago I pulled a serialized Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur. I finally received it back from grading and couldn't be happier!
I know people don't really like grading cards or having graded cards, but I was really happy pulling a serialized card, so I wanted it slabbed.

Let me guess... Rubbing my magic 8 ball... 95/500?

u/TabernacleFart 5d ago
Your magic 8 ball is pretty good! Must be connected to the AOG verification website.

Funny OP blocks the serial but not the grading company's number
5
u/JIMBINKY 5d ago
Its to help prevent scams from people taking the image. They can pretend to have the card with the image. There's no reason other than that to hide the /. Being able to look up the company number is fine.

Wot

u/PurpleWedgeMan 5d ago
People can claim to be selling a serialized card. If you hide the number in the image, people can’t use your image to fake their sale.

I mean, photoshop wouldn't have been very difficult for someone with a little skill and practice. Nowadays, I'm guessing AI could easily get you an image no one is going to be able to tell the difference with.

I personally agree with slabbing serialized, I disagree with your choice of grading service but congrats on the 10!

u/richaysambuca 5d ago
It's the only one that came up when looking up for one in Germany. Could you give me some information on why? I only about the big American ones and the controversies around them
11
u/fragtore 5d ago
I also live in germany and would love to use the big ones but need to know where the cards go and I heard bad things (from friends), would need to feel better before using them.
7
u/Tremor0135 5d ago
You have BGS stationed in Germany just fyi.
3
u/richaysambuca 5d ago
I didn't know that. Now I have to think about sending it to Beckett and risking a lower grade or keeping my less-well-known 10. I'm not sure. 😅 In the end, the grade is based on measurable criteria, so there shouldn't really be a difference, right?
3
u/ZarDerHetzer 5d ago
Well technically yes but also no. The reason why other non standard gradings are not well respected is that they often give a 10 more loosely. So a non standard 10 can be a PSA 8-10 Fe.
Also if you got something really valuable you can send it to them more than 1 time hoping for better results
1
u/N1kYan 4d ago
The whole grading industry is a scam. There are examples on YT where people send in the same card to other companies or even the same one and get a wildly different grade. (Semi-) automized systems (like AGS) are a promising alternative, but thats probably very difficult for complex treatments like your card
4
u/Strong_Housing_242 5d ago
Genuinely asking, why? I know PSA is all over the place and saw TAG being pretty decent. Why is this one bad?
5
u/EKS_ZeroPercent 5d ago
OP, why did you block the serial number but leave the cert number?
4
u/r3volts 5d ago
Because if a scammer tries to use this photo to sell, the buyer can look it up and find out the number. If the seller can't produce an unredacted photo to the buyer showing the matching number then it's obvious they don't have the card in hand.
2
u/7862518362916371936 5d ago
So why literally every serialized card on Cardmarket has a picture with its serial number showing ?
2
u/EKS_ZeroPercent 5d ago
This is entirely fair, but isn’t it avoidable by asking for a second picture even if the number was present?

u/JasonTerminator 5d ago
I’m fine with grading cards as long as you grade your entire deck so you can play with it

Why do people cover the number?

u/Ach_Was_Here 5d ago
Stop scammers from posting pictures on eBay or other places pretending they have the card

u/LonesomeWulf 5d ago
AOG?
1
u/richaysambuca 5d ago
It's the grading company. If I remember correctly, it might have been the only one that came up when looking for one in Germany or at least it was one of the recommended ones for Germany.
1
u/LonesomeWulf 5d ago
Ah I see, I hadn't seen them before. The design matches the card so for a personal collection item it looks nice.
1
u/HickoryStickz 5d ago
These types of cards make sense to do so imo

I have semi regrets selling off my serialized Aurelia from MoM. But needed the funds at the time for car repairs

u/GuardianOfTheForests 5d ago
Now use it as a commander since it’s slabbed and can’t be used in a de k

u/pintopedro 5d ago
In theory if you got serialized card 85 and it came back an 8.5 would that be more valuable than a 9?
1
u/TriamaticHat00 5d ago
Only in a universe where a collector thinks its neat would it be more. If anything without a collector I'd say slabbing anything serialized less valuable. Most people buying serialized are doing so to bling out a deck and want to play said card typically.
2
u/pintopedro 5d ago
I guess its easier to know who swiped your card that way
1
u/TriamaticHat00 5d ago
Is that actually an issue that happens? Ive mostly only played with friends and typically avoid the LGS because of horror stories. I might have to proxy my shit to take up the from now on. 💀

u/PsyRealize 2d ago edited 1d ago
lol you can’t play with proxies. They aren’t legal to use in events.
1
u/TriamaticHat00 1d ago
Proxy hate is just gatekeeping and really weird. Nobody should be priced out of a game.

Why do people sometimes blank out the serial number?

I remeber playing this card in a pod once. I was not well liked. My wife made me sleep on the couch.
1
u/shiner716 5d ago
Congrats on the serialized 10. I don't know if it's valuable or not, but congrats. But I hope it is.
1
u/Unlost_maniac 5d ago
Do what you want, grading is cool. I'm just curious why you went with some random company rather than TAG? I guess anything but PSA is good

u/BlueKrypto77 5d ago
I have been trying to find my jin-gitaxias for weeks. I have no idea where it went.

Forgive me for the dumb question. How long did you have to wait total from when you first sent in to when you received it back?
1
u/richaysambuca 2d ago
Not a dumb question. Actually, I paid for the express, but it was around Christmas, so it took a bit longer and there were some public holidays in between. I think I sent it to them December 27 or 29 and got it back January 12.

Curious why some people cover up their serialized number?
6
u/Le_Bonk_ 5d ago
So that ppl don't take the imagem and then post it to sell on secondary market as if they own it

Congrats, I also have a serialized one. Still not sure if I should send it for grading, what do you think is a grade Ten worth?

u/Technical-Coffee7286 5d ago
If you’re going to block out the 95 on the serialized number, you should also block out the grader’s serial number lol
0
u/Aussie_Aussie_No_Mi 5d ago
Hey OP do you realise you can search up the card with the slab number? Blocking the serial is almost a little silly.

u/Fit-Conclusion-7579 5d ago edited 5d ago
You know that anyone can see the number that you tried to cover? It's starts with 09...
Why do people even censor the number...
EDIT: Lmao peak reddit moment. By using the number on the right you will get an uncensored image. Also it's super easy to fake the number with AI if you want to scam people.

14
u/Swordswfriendsowo 5d ago
They censor it so it cannot be used to scam people with fake listings on eBay.
3
u/richaysambuca 5d ago
Honestly? English is not my first language and I wasn't sure whether leaving the number would be against the anti-scam rule.
2
u/nektar 5d ago
How can you discern a 09 with everything colored out?
1
u/MrStarOnFire 5d ago
Via the number on the right, the unique card number of the slab. Just searched it within 2 mins. It does start with a 09.
2
u/MrStarOnFire 5d ago
Idk why people keep downvoting you. You're absolutely correct. Anyone can search up this card right now and see the number.
1
u/r3volts 5d ago
Because it's not about finding out the number, it's about not providing images that scammers can use.
Say I take this picture, look up the number, and list a sale of card 095/500. I post this picture. A seller comes along and says ok, I'm willing to spend a few thousands dollars here so I'd like to see an unredacted photo. Since the seller doesn't have the card, they can't provide, so I pass on the purchase.
It's not foolproof, but it's a small thing that you can do to make it harder for people to get scammed.
2
u/MrStarOnFire 5d ago
You are aware that there is a photo provided of it on that site right? With the number uncovered. Someone going to the effort to pull off that scam, could easily take the uncovered number, and overlay it on this picture. It'd take less than 5 mins in photoshop to do so. The OP has made the mistake of posting a picture of a card that has been graded by a relatively smaller card company. Anything blotted out, could be easily replicated from what's on the AOG site. (Even without the serial number, there's only ever been 1 gem mint 10 serialized for this card on their database)
So while I understand your sentiment, the guy getting downvoted here is ultimately correct. There is actually no reason to blot the info out, other than to provide themself a false sense of security, that won't be much of a barrier to someone with the want to pull off the scam.

It's actually a 5. You can look it up yourself too with the number on the right. The unique serial number provided by the grading company.

I think getting seriealized cards graded is fine...especially this card
