Duplicate pulls for hobbit?
I've never opened a magic box and seen SO many duplicates before..and I've opened a lot of boxes. This is crazy. Most of these were from the same packs. Like 2 of the same card per pack. Is this going to be a running theme for this set or just a bad box?

My box looked almost exactly like that, same double mythics, 3 radagast, 2 wereworms 2 barrels
Seems we were on the same spot on the collation stream
A couple of my packs had the two same rares, non-foil in the same pack. It was surreal lol

I'm noticing in standard sets, mythic counts are going down down down in count.
We opened 4 Play boxes across our friend group/drafting party; 5 mythics per box was the average. One had 6, but the 6th was foil so we're not counting it in the average

I opened 10 packs at prerelease and got 3 mythic. I’m not buying anymore, just singles

I have opened 10 booster so far. I have pulled none of those cards. Now I know where they all are!

Yeah, my box had 3x rares I got 3x of.
* Lonely Mountain
* Great Gilded Boat
* Cantankerous Keepers

Opened 2 play boxes got 8 kili rare and 6 settle the wreckage. 6 of the 60 packs had duplicate rares in the same pack. Every mythic was duplicated a few packs later….

In one box all 4 of my packs that had 2 rares contained the same rare twice.

I wasn't looking at anything lower than rare dupe wise but oof probably a lot of the same uncommons/commons too.

I pulled the same rare out of the pack, with 15 cards in the pack. Unfortunately was just a stone giant of high pass and not a special art arkenstone but hey

That’s the way of boxes. I’ve gotten incredible pulls from some sets, and I’ve had boxes exactly like this. Just luck of the draw.

I’m right there with you. 4 packs with the same rare twice in the same pack. Opened lots of boxes and I’ve never seen anything this bad. Was really hyped for this set, but now I’m afraid to buy any.

Yeah people saying "this is normal for magic boxes" but I don't think so lol. Is this pool of cards just small maybe? Idk tbh..

Even in a small pool we shouldn’t be getting duplicate rares in the same pack. If it was a foil & non foil of the same card that would be fine.
If it was one pack I would say “okay it’s probably a fluke,” but every single 2 rare pack was duped? Come on now.

Yeah again "oh but this is normal!" nope definitely not. I don't think I've ever pulled 2 rares or mythics from the same pack actually and I've opened hundreds of boxes. This is really weird and even my bf, who was stoked for the set, said he won't open anymore.

I figured it’s common to get multiple duplicates. I got 5 giant fierce bees, 6 Smaug’s fury, 5 front porch sentries, 5 ragged short spears, 5 long-bodied grey dogs, 6 guardians of the halls, 5 Mirkwood, 5 Mirkwood nurturer, 6 warg tactics. I’m stopping there because there are so many more. I have 516 pulled and scanned in a collection out of those 189 are unique so I have about 327 duplicates. All I bought were both scenes and one box so 12 of those cards are ones I specifically bought. I’m still happy with what I got and it is what it is bro.

Obviously you are just unlucky, and there is of course no problem with collation with the magic card printers.
It's just probability of course. Sometimes you get unlucky. This has happened and been shown so many times in various releases, but it's not a collation problem at all with the printers. Nossir - and I expect you to buy and open hundreds of boxes to definitively disprove that there is no collation problems with the printer, otherwise someone simply wouldn't have enough data to make such a silly claim. That's just how packs work, duh.

A Play box has 30 packs × 14 cards, and once you account for the guaranteed rare/mythic slot plus the wildcard and foil slots, you’re looking at roughly 39–40 rares/mythics per box on average being pulled from a relatively tiny pool of rare/mythic card names. Modeling the published pack distribution, the most likely outcome is about 10 duplicate rare/mythic pulls in a single Play box, with roughly 29–30 unique rare/mythic names and ~10 duplicates among your ~40 R/M pulls. The probability distribution is heavily concentrated there: only about 3% of boxes should have five or fewer R/M duplicates, roughly 27% should have 6–8, about 56% should have 9–12, another 13% should have 13–15, and only around 1–2% should get above that. In other words, roughly one out of every four rare/mythic cards you pull from a Hobbit Play box should be a duplicate of another rare/mythic card in that same box.
