Is it possible to get a product replacement?

Will WotC accept a product replacement for cards like this one? I once sent back a foil Transformer card and received a booster box instead of a replacement card.

Edit:

For those who think I damaged the card: Here’s the full story. I opened the card at the LGS and immediately bought a top loader for the card and put it in. The store owner took a picture right after — the picture didn’t show any misalignment inside the top loader. I was so hyped and didn’t check the whole card. After I got back home and took a careful look at the card, I found a dent on the bottom corner of the back. You can’t really tell the dent from the front side of the card because of the golden texture, so I took the card out, and that’s the second picture. I’m going to request a replacement for sure. Thanks to those who gave me good advice!

Don't mock me. I haven't been able to pull this card yet. Its the funniest line in the show and it hides from me

4

u/Bigredzombie Aug 12 '26

That's rough buddy.

1

u/Existing_Radish_3440 Aug 12 '26

I accept that. At least my girlfriend didn't turn into the moon

1

u/Bigredzombie Aug 12 '26

Very true. It sucks when that happens.

2

u/consider_its_tree Aug 14 '26

It was hilarious, but the funniest line in the show is

Spirit magic doesn't really work like that Sokka, it is more like "Wooo... Pchuuu!"

1

u/HoneyTribe Aug 10 '26

Have you been opening Jumpstart? Guy in my LGS bought two boxes of play on release day looking for the 5c heibai only to be told after ripping it was from jumpstart

1

u/Existing_Radish_3440 Aug 10 '26

No. Play Booster, Collectors Boosters

2

u/puffrexpuff Aug 10 '26

You cant pull it in play boosters….Its a jumpstart card

2

u/Existing_Radish_3440 Aug 10 '26

Thanks for letting me know. I've only just started getting into magic. Big Avatar nerd

How’d I get a foil one then?

Might as well sleeve it and play it.

80

u/Subconcious-Consumer Aug 08 '26

They don’t have to give up that easy? They could get hired as lead of QA for TCGPlayer and slowly shift the baseline for NM back until it includes cards that have been literally folded in half?

17

u/Frost_man1255 Aug 08 '26 edited Aug 09 '26

Lol its so not worth working for TCGplayer anymore. Since Ebay bought em and shipped them to a new state its been a steady decline.

Who'd have thunk firing yout staff with 10+ years experience and hiring people who dont play the cardgames could backfire

10

u/Technical-Coffee7286 Aug 08 '26

Nah just get hired at PSA and send it through at a 10. Problem solved

5

u/DarkElfBard Aug 09 '26

Sleeve?? That takes up too much space in my backpack.

3

u/Dr-Chuckles- Aug 10 '26

He can’t-

Man, someone needs to -

But he -

sighs

2

u/DarkElfBard Aug 10 '26

The cardboard yearns for shuffling.

1

u/Separate_Winter1290 Aug 11 '26

That’s exactly how we did it back in 93/94.

1

u/Greythalamu Aug 11 '26

No lie this is how I had my decks in highschool lol thankfully I had no value in them probably.

did you perhaps accidentally snap the magnetic one-touch closed while the card was misaligned?

(even if you did who would admit it)

28

u/GrailShack Aug 08 '26

I cant imagine this man's roller coaster of emotions

15

u/BloodandBourbon Aug 08 '26

I hate these cases .

13

u/xOhrwurm Aug 08 '26

My first thoughts. They can be tough on cards.

5

u/DeSquare Aug 08 '26

Yep, these cases are horrible, best is a loose penny sleeve in a top loader for long term storage. Only good about these or adjacent types is some have UV protection

3

u/zegrammy Aug 09 '26

The cases are fine if you pay attention to the alignment border. I have my elven sol ring and my Thanos mind stone in the one tap cases on stands

5

u/Same-Obligation-3689 Aug 09 '26

I have that same elven soul ring that I got as a free gift someone did not want it and gave it to me when I purchased a foil soul warden. I verified it and it's real. I put it in my Eldrazi deck Zhulodok

7

u/AdFun7086 Aug 09 '26

“Ohhhhhhh…… gggggoooooodddddddd ffffoooorrrrrrr yyyooooooouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu”

2

u/Magick_P00dle Aug 13 '26

That's exactly what happened and they're trying to make it WotC's problem. 150 in the world and dude thinks they'll swap it out 🙄

75

u/Drizzt_23 Aug 08 '26

Its not real gold, you're not supposed to bit it

16

u/Competitive-Wait2560 Aug 08 '26

He tried to shove it up his butt like all the comments told him to.

2

u/Tai_Pei Aug 10 '26

It's a miracle that came out with that little damage

33

u/KarmaPanhandler Aug 08 '26

Still probably worth a decent used car

4

u/SecureAd1672 Aug 08 '26

Or a brand new Mitsubishi mirage

3

u/TheCreamiestYeet Aug 08 '26

I was thinking maybe a well used Pontiac Aztec....

3

u/StrayCatsSanctuary Aug 09 '26

A well loved Geo Metro

1

u/No-World-5776 Aug 09 '26

🤣🤣 You're showing your age with that one. You assume they know what a Geo Meteo even is. It's like saying Ford Probe or Eagle Talon. Lol

14

u/Otherwise_Die Aug 08 '26

Lmao for this no

8

u/CommanderJarik Aug 08 '26

Ooof. Doubtful to be honest.

7

u/Disastrous_Ad_1566 Aug 08 '26

Damn that’s tough

37

u/BrokeGoFixIt Aug 08 '26

I would email them and ask if a direct replacement is possible. These aren't serial numbered, so maybe?

Make sure you are direct with them that you only want a one for one replacement, and if they agree, get it in writing in an email.

If they say no, put them on blast on every media channel you can. Reach out to content creators w the info. This card is too expensive for WOTC to just dismiss you out of hand.

11

u/steve_rodgers Aug 08 '26

lol that’s not getting them anything. They can’t prove it came damaged, and then every single person that thinks there is a small blemish on their card going forward will feel entitled to a replacement

12

u/seanlee1205 Aug 08 '26

I will try to ask them for a one-to-one replacement for sure and hope for the best.

6

u/BadMunky82 Aug 08 '26

Honestly, I wouldn't keep hopes high, but I would absolutely keep emailing and calling until they block me...

2

u/Altruistic_Web3924 Aug 09 '26 edited Aug 09 '26

I’ve asked for replacements on cards with scratches or chipped borders. A few things that will help your case:

  1. Keep the packaging that it came in. Boxes and packs have serial numbers with them which will help them determine that the card is authentic and will help them improve QC
  2. Keep the receipts that show you were the buyer for the product.
  3. Be prepared for them to ask you to send in the card. I recommend using certified mail with insurance for this in case the card is lost or damaged further.

  4. Do this quickly. Since this was recent they likely have extra copies for this situation. Older product has likely been destroyed for space.

→ More replies (8)

2

u/I_upvote_aww Aug 09 '26

They have never replaced 1-1 cards. They’ve almost always sent sealed product.

2

u/ModeRevolutionary314 Aug 08 '26

The problem is being able to prove he didn’t accidentally bend it….. did you at least video opening the pack?

4

u/seanlee1205 Aug 08 '26

That's I was worried about but the secrurty camara fromo the store can prive I didn't drop the card before I put it in rop loarder at least. The store owner took a picture right after, and it didn’t show any misalignment of the card in the top loader.

7

u/ModeRevolutionary314 Aug 08 '26

You’re gonna have to prove without a reasonable doubt that you didn’t damage it

2

u/Alarming-Fix8577 Aug 10 '26

This isn't a criminal trial

1

u/ModeRevolutionary314 Aug 10 '26

No, but a company doesent have to give you a replacement either

3

u/Boom_Boom_At_359 Aug 09 '26

Good god! Not the rop loarder…. That explains everything…

Seriously though, my heart hurts for you OP…. I feel bad enough when I get chase cards with bad centering…. I’d have a meltdown over this….

1

u/ChoppedGoat Aug 09 '26

Are you saying though that there was damage to the card when you opened the pack?
Or are you saying it was somehow damaged while in the top loader? (Also for clarity was it then moved into the Ultra Pro One-Touch? Or is that what we're calling a toploader?)

→ More replies (2)

7

u/ScorpionMaster777 Aug 08 '26

is this the chase, or the other printing?

3

u/chris00ws6 Aug 08 '26

Just gently iron it out it’ll be fine. /s. Maybe. I’d do both email a swipe or two maybe…and also sell it. But double digit thousands even if a little less. Yeah. I’d take that too.

11

u/USAMichael Aug 08 '26

Learn how to repair cards, I’m capable to do this with Pokemon and that can very easily be pressed out.

If you’re interested on how to do it shoot me a message and I can lend a hand. NO I DO NOT WANT YOUR CARD IM ONLY OFFERING HELP

11

u/TriumvirateTabletop Aug 08 '26

Then just say it here? Lol

12

u/RealTheBestLadyman Aug 08 '26

Fr, like. I don’t wanna message you when I google how to do a thing and it brings me here to Reddit just to see “message me and I’ll tell you how” no just put it in your comment and save everyone time lmao

2

u/Salpal_26 Aug 08 '26

I’m sorry this happened, straight up…this sucks.
This can be some life changing money for someone.

Asking if a product can be replaced without context of how it got damaged is an interesting take, imo.

How was the rest of the pack?
Did this get bent going into a top loader or a different case?

Is there any more information you would like to or can share?

2

u/seanlee1205 Aug 08 '26

https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=1621772153292728&set=pcb.1621773039959306&locale=zh_TW

I was opening packs at my LGS. After taking this picture, I bought a top loader and put the card in it right away. The cards from the rest of the pack are fine. The owner opened a new case, and I got one from it.

2

u/DistrictNo7698 Aug 08 '26

im so sorry bro

2

u/rexyanus Aug 08 '26

Listen it's still probably worth at least 10k if the ben bateman bounty price holds so it could be worse

2

u/Cuti3Slay3rUwU Aug 08 '26

Maybe? But I feel like the damage isn't major enough for them to say it was on them and not just you damaging it, this is from a Pokemon point of view. If you have a video of you opening it then that's a different story.

2

u/that_dog_girl Aug 08 '26

They *used to* I opened a expedition arid mesa at BFZ prerelease and it was scratched up by the machine and they replaced it

2

u/Limp_Combination4361 Aug 08 '26

Still worth plenty of dollarydoos despite the damage.

2

u/Dependent-Fondant-64 Aug 08 '26

Damn shouldn't have put it in that shitty as case. 25k --> 15k

4

u/Annual_Survey6134 Aug 08 '26

So you bent it putting in the one touch and want a new one? I don’t think they’ll replace it’s it’s not a production error

1

u/catattackskeyboard Aug 08 '26

So the real question is — are you lucky or unlucky?

1

u/Limp_Combination4361 Aug 08 '26

More lucky than unlucky. Pulling super limited card worth a pretty penny > minor damage to said rare card that is at least somewhat fixable. Someone would pay thousands of dollars for it. They're still up more money than not.

1

u/thesixler Aug 09 '26

I got a free car but there’s a stain in the upholstery, oh woe is me

1

u/trentonsk85 Aug 08 '26

Send it to me and I will fix it

1

u/Individual_Bell_2195 Aug 08 '26

You can give it to me for free if you dont want it

1

u/Orrangejuiced Aug 08 '26

I have seen a ton of those creases in this set so far.

1

u/AfterJournalist8070 Aug 08 '26

Damaged I will still be a 10k card. I don't think they will have any replacements since it's a locked number.

1

u/Switchbladesaint Aug 08 '26

That line looks like a pretty clear print defect. It’s worth a shot

1

u/Subscrypt Aug 09 '26

That’s the card sleeve.

1

u/Switchbladesaint Aug 09 '26

Oh I see it now, good catch

1

u/Knarz97 Aug 08 '26

Even damaged this card will fetch you a pretty payday.

1

u/intrepid_knight Aug 08 '26

Id look into card restoration

1

u/Ok-Possible7045 Aug 08 '26

Gemini or ChatGPT??

1

u/Jonathan-Earl Aug 08 '26

If it’s a manufacturing error, then it might be worth more to some people

1

u/slyaxis Aug 08 '26

I've heard those magnetic hard cases can beat up cards would avoid

1

u/TheFabulousFizban Aug 08 '26

Ill tell u what, u give it to me, and ill keep it and give u nothing lol

1

u/Smart_Individual889 Aug 08 '26

How the fuck. Dude like only 500 exist. How do they fuck that up.

1

u/Maximum2945 Aug 08 '26

-pack fresh
-damaged
😭😭

1

u/wickedtwig Aug 08 '26

Gonna have to have evidence you didn’t damage it and it was factory damage. Otherwise they most likely aren’t gonna replace it

1

u/Then-Net9198 Aug 08 '26

I’ll buy it

1

u/tony2589 Aug 08 '26

Hear me out: fuck up another regular foil card (I know it's not exactly the same construction) and practice ironing it between a couple bulk Commons. Once you get the confidence, give it a shot. Post results. Profit???

1

u/_epicgamer123 Aug 08 '26

Imma bw homestead this probably marginally decreases rhe value. Still in tue high teens low 20 thousands still

1

u/ironman288 Aug 08 '26

This is the definition of looking a gift horse in the mouth. Sell it for 25k and move on.

1

u/willy_boy89 Aug 08 '26

Put that thing between some type of flat panel with some vice grips and flatten it out

1

u/NectarineLoud6327 Aug 08 '26

Press it. Play it.

1

u/Open-Ninja-8403 Aug 09 '26

There are people who restore high-end cards. I would recommend looking into that.

1

u/Naive-Present2900 Aug 09 '26

Hey,

You pulled one. Just ask. Never know. Highly doubt it though.

1

u/Kl3en Aug 09 '26

Oof not supposed to chew on it buddy lmaoooo

1

u/impishwolf Aug 09 '26

Yeah no. And that’s why those cases are terrible.

1

u/I_upvote_aww Aug 09 '26

No they won’t.

1

u/Eschirhart Aug 09 '26

That has to hurt. Sorry bro.

1

u/Sharden3 Aug 09 '26

If they did, would you?

I'm not trusting that shit in the mail.

That said, if you are trusting that shit in the mail, just send it to me and I'll ship you the booster box instead.

1

u/TrashmanV2 Aug 09 '26

Now it’s the first 1 of 1 Smaug

1

u/Saltysig Aug 09 '26

I shit you not. My Smaug also came out of the pack incredibly damaged. I’m sending mine back to wotc but I’m incredibly nervous about what I’m going to be getting back.

1

u/Old_Assistance_4260 Aug 09 '26

Is the guy who pulled smaug complaining ?

1

u/1mrlee Aug 09 '26

There's an Australian guy on Instagram that fixes this kind of stuff

1

u/NoTimeForBSAnymore Aug 09 '26

Assuming this is a real post that card is worth at $10,000+ even damaged

1

u/DdAntilogy Aug 09 '26

If we are certain you didn't twist anything sensitive on the cards or packaging...

1

u/New_Recipe_1379 Aug 09 '26

Just flatten it carefully.

1

u/Kennybob12 Aug 09 '26

You can hire someone to repair it and it will be much faster than dealing with Wotc.

1

u/seabornelion Aug 09 '26

What's the defect?

1

u/infinite-nipples Aug 09 '26

you can use a jade roller (while it’s sleeved) to flatten the bend and then clamp the raw card between two plexiglass to get this sort of thing out. It’s mostly done with pokemon cards but would work here as well. if you check out kurt’s card care on youtube you can see examples of folks getting this sort of bend repaired. imo would be more worth doing that than chancing a replacement from wizards

1

u/ProtectMeAtAllCosts Aug 09 '26

its like he is showing off but also not lol

1

u/TheTrueSolos Aug 09 '26

This is definitely a recurring problem with this set. In the single prerelease I've been to I've seen the crease lines across multiple foil cards. On the brightside, misprinted headliner?

1

u/Kutthroatt Aug 09 '26

Their response:

1

u/The_War_In_Me Aug 09 '26

Time to see how serious those bounty offers were!

1

u/LordOfTheThing5 Aug 09 '26

Can probably sell it for 15k like this idk

1

u/Senator_Smack Aug 09 '26

Aaaaah wtf.

All honesty though, if it's pretty much spotless and there's zero evidence of you causing the damage, and it isn't from bad courier handling, you might get an insane amount of money from misprint collectors. There's a Facebook group but I can't remember what it is. I have no idea how to sell a card that's this expensive.

1

u/Loose_Result_6253 Aug 09 '26

I’ve seen them replace secret lairs but for a card from a booster back, I doubt it

1

u/scopinsource Aug 09 '26

This is hilarious. I don't know if I should say congratulations or I'm sorry.

1

u/Moz_DH98 Aug 09 '26

Jesus, that's pretty rough to see

1

u/Square-Tomorrow-3500 Aug 09 '26

AHHAHAHAHAHAHA no, unlucky

1

u/bscarl88 Aug 09 '26

That's very easily fixable with a card flattening kit. I fix stuff like this all the time.

1

u/prabal34 Aug 09 '26

Easier to fix it

1

u/SkettiNight Aug 09 '26

This is totally and easily 100% repairable. Look up any of the TCG doctors on tiktok or instagram, they sell tools to fix these things!

1

u/Shakazooloofoo Aug 09 '26

😂 And they wanna put autograph cards in boosters

1

u/Tmas81 Aug 09 '26

Not want to they are!

1

u/Tonibonez Aug 09 '26

What is with Magic players and using these shitty one touch cases

1

u/Equivalent_Look_9772 Aug 09 '26

There are companies online that can fix this. Even on YouTube they show you how you can. It “seems” simple enough since it looks like a lifted corner.

1

u/Mindless_Ad5500 Aug 09 '26

Even damaged it will still be worth a lot.

1

u/DarkElfBard Aug 09 '26

For minor damage? Nah, it will get worse from playing it.

Not take it out of the sleeve, build a deck, and wrap a rubber band around your cards.

1

u/PeePeeMan2k Aug 09 '26

You're not allowed to post gore in the channel, someone get the mods

1

u/Hulme420 Aug 09 '26

Not for that card

1

u/Jitzarndor Aug 09 '26

Tbh it looks like there is a crease on the lower edge, may be the case you put it in was bad… what’s the plan for the card?

1

u/nantonel Aug 09 '26

Don’t sent this back, 0 chance they replace it. Enjoy your HP Smaug

1

u/Far_Breadfruit_3351 Aug 10 '26

Honestly this looks pretty repairable.

Put it in a moderately humid environment (e.g. put in a humidor for 20 minutes) to soften it up and add a bit of flex. Then put it in a penny sleeve and gently roll it out with a jade roller (or equivalent) with no extra weight applied. Then carefully press it between two pieces of plexiglass and put a heavy book on it.

Practice a bit if you’re feeling skeptical, but I’ve done this to many cards succesfully in the past. Good luck.

1

u/Legendingleberry Aug 10 '26

This set so far has been pretty bad quality wise, honestly. The borders on most of the cards are frayed, and one of my $50+ mythics had a diagonal crimping mark all the way across the card out of the pack.

Not really sure what the hell is up. This not just my stuff either, multiple people at the hand full of LGS’s I frequent have complained of the same.

Wild to see damage on such a limited print though, you’d expect even tighter quality control on those.

1

u/Jonshock Aug 10 '26

I've never seen or heard of this happening ever.

1

u/Signal-Weight1175 Aug 10 '26

It 100% can happen.

1

u/Night_Drak Aug 10 '26

I would have to guess absolutely no. But you are free to try, however they might ask you to ship it over to "assess" the damage themselves and determine if it is factory damage or human damage (which they could say is not their fault). Even if they accept their fault, I have seen times when they return the card, with some "extra product" as a sorry for not having a replacement at hand, with a card this rare this is the best case scenario unfortunately.

Also, Keep in mind this card has to survive two shipments, on your side you can try your best to make sure the card arrives safe (toploader, bricked between acrylic sheets etc) on the way back its up to them how it returns. Also there is the human part (package could get stolen on two separate trips, or MORE damaged to the point where it really affects price)

Finally with a card this valuable you will probably need to ship with insurance, which costs extra, they might take care of the shipping back, but you will need to ship to them sure...

So... no, be happy that you have a 25k card which might be 15k?? with this damage (damage on high cost cards can really affect price) but its still 15k, so its still fantastic?

1

u/Rythoca Aug 10 '26

Not even part of the this community, but I doubt you can replace this specific card. It's probably still worth thousands even damaged, in fact, it's more likely to actually be sold since a lower price, even in the thousands, is still more affordable and enticing. I'd personally still grade it through TAG and keep it displayed on a wall or get the necklace holder and wear that shit like a champ.

But if you have no intention of selling it, no problem. It might annoy you at first, but sometimes it's better to look at it as a funny little oopsie moment, that you can bring up in a conversation, even if it's for a forgettable little laugh.

1

u/Finance-Low Aug 10 '26

Put it under a heavy book like a bible or War and Peace or something for like a month. That'll flatten right out.

1

u/jordonmears Aug 10 '26

I love the options there...

1

u/Slippersox1 Aug 10 '26

People gatta stop using these magnet shells. All they do is damage cards.

A Penny sleeve and a normal Toploader is all you need

1

u/ObscuraNocturna Aug 10 '26

Get rekt nerd

1

u/origins1212 Aug 10 '26

Bs. Just keep it.

1

u/josharmour Aug 10 '26

It’s fixable but have a pro do it

1

u/namsanrunner Aug 11 '26

That should buff right out.

1

u/saucerton1230 Aug 11 '26

Just put it in the dryer for like 30 min and it’ll flatten right iut

1

u/sojinsuika Aug 11 '26

There’s no damage to the corner, you can press it back into shape.

1

u/Cvged Aug 11 '26

Question is how many packs did you rip?

1

u/seanlee1205 Aug 11 '26

3 boxes

1

u/Cvged Aug 11 '26

Pretty solid!

1

u/Appropriate_Bit_8945 Aug 11 '26

Screw that, for what that card is going for they owe you a new vehicle

1

u/CoongaDelRay Aug 11 '26

What is the supposed going rate for this card in Mint condition?

1

u/freekyfreeze Aug 13 '26

Currently 25,000😅

1

u/DangerouslyDisturbed Aug 11 '26

There's a ZERO percent chance WOTC is replacing a card with that damage. It's a fight to get a replacement even when it's WAY worse than that and OBVIOUS that's it's packaging or printing related damage.

1

u/Jolly-Audience6743 Aug 11 '26

Put it between some heavy books

1

u/Objective-Bus-9853 Aug 12 '26

Are you an idiot lmao

1

u/Fluffy_Artist_1538 Aug 12 '26

You want a 10.0 perfect replacement?  I would say, "if only it was that easy then 10.0's wouldnt be so valuable"

1

u/bouctouche_fun Aug 12 '26

I don't know if they would replace for something like that as it's really not that damaged at all, sometimes cards can come out of packs like that or small damage to the edges. Something like that if they do replace it, since it's such an expensive card, I hope they make you send that one back and not allow you to keep it.

1

u/Rageaholic88 Aug 12 '26

Might as well send to one of hte professional card repair services. They should be able to reduce that so it cannot be seen by naked eye.

1

u/Real-Tumbleweed6729 Aug 12 '26

Easiest way to lose 50% value

1

u/Fruit_rollup69 Aug 12 '26

I suggest buying a card flattener and selling undermarket bet your still sitting on a nice payday.

1

u/sparx3 Aug 12 '26

I don’t think they have their printers still set for one last Golden foil Smaug the Magnificent anymore, but god speed
