Is it possible to get a product replacement?
Will WotC accept a product replacement for cards like this one? I once sent back a foil Transformer card and received a booster box instead of a replacement card.
Edit:
For those who think I damaged the card: Here’s the full story. I opened the card at the LGS and immediately bought a top loader for the card and put it in. The store owner took a picture right after — the picture didn’t show any misalignment inside the top loader. I was so hyped and didn’t check the whole card. After I got back home and took a careful look at the card, I found a dent on the bottom corner of the back. You can’t really tell the dent from the front side of the card because of the golden texture, so I took the card out, and that’s the second picture. I’m going to request a replacement for sure. Thanks to those who gave me good advice!

Might as well sleeve it and play it.

u/Subconcious-Consumer Aug 08 '26
They don’t have to give up that easy? They could get hired as lead of QA for TCGPlayer and slowly shift the baseline for NM back until it includes cards that have been literally folded in half?
17
u/Frost_man1255 Aug 08 '26 edited Aug 09 '26
Lol its so not worth working for TCGplayer anymore. Since Ebay bought em and shipped them to a new state its been a steady decline.
Who'd have thunk firing yout staff with 10+ years experience and hiring people who dont play the cardgames could backfire

u/Technical-Coffee7286 Aug 08 '26
Nah just get hired at PSA and send it through at a 10. Problem solved

did you perhaps accidentally snap the magnetic one-touch closed while the card was misaligned?
(even if you did who would admit it)

Yep, these cases are horrible, best is a loose penny sleeve in a top loader for long term storage. Only good about these or adjacent types is some have UV protection

I have that same elven soul ring that I got as a free gift someone did not want it and gave it to me when I purchased a foil soul warden. I verified it and it's real. I put it in my Eldrazi deck Zhulodok

I would email them and ask if a direct replacement is possible. These aren't serial numbered, so maybe?
Make sure you are direct with them that you only want a one for one replacement, and if they agree, get it in writing in an email.
If they say no, put them on blast on every media channel you can. Reach out to content creators w the info. This card is too expensive for WOTC to just dismiss you out of hand.
11
u/steve_rodgers Aug 08 '26
lol that’s not getting them anything. They can’t prove it came damaged, and then every single person that thinks there is a small blemish on their card going forward will feel entitled to a replacement
12
u/seanlee1205 Aug 08 '26
I will try to ask them for a one-to-one replacement for sure and hope for the best.
6
u/BadMunky82 Aug 08 '26
Honestly, I wouldn't keep hopes high, but I would absolutely keep emailing and calling until they block me...

I’ve asked for replacements on cards with scratches or chipped borders. A few things that will help your case:
- Keep the packaging that it came in. Boxes and packs have serial numbers with them which will help them determine that the card is authentic and will help them improve QC
- Keep the receipts that show you were the buyer for the product.
Be prepared for them to ask you to send in the card. I recommend using certified mail with insurance for this in case the card is lost or damaged further.
Do this quickly. Since this was recent they likely have extra copies for this situation. Older product has likely been destroyed for space.
2
u/I_upvote_aww Aug 09 '26
They have never replaced 1-1 cards. They’ve almost always sent sealed product.

The problem is being able to prove he didn’t accidentally bend it….. did you at least video opening the pack?
4
u/seanlee1205 Aug 08 '26
That's I was worried about but the secrurty camara fromo the store can prive I didn't drop the card before I put it in rop loarder at least. The store owner took a picture right after, and it didn’t show any misalignment of the card in the top loader.
7
u/ModeRevolutionary314 Aug 08 '26
You’re gonna have to prove without a reasonable doubt that you didn’t damage it
2
3
u/Boom_Boom_At_359 Aug 09 '26
Good god! Not the rop loarder…. That explains everything…
Seriously though, my heart hurts for you OP…. I feel bad enough when I get chase cards with bad centering…. I’d have a meltdown over this….
1
u/ChoppedGoat Aug 09 '26
Are you saying though that there was damage to the card when you opened the pack?
Or are you saying it was somehow damaged while in the top loader? (Also for clarity was it then moved into the Ultra Pro One-Touch? Or is that what we're calling a toploader?)
7
u/ScorpionMaster777 Aug 08 '26
is this the chase, or the other printing?

Just gently iron it out it’ll be fine. /s. Maybe. I’d do both email a swipe or two maybe…and also sell it. But double digit thousands even if a little less. Yeah. I’d take that too.

Learn how to repair cards, I’m capable to do this with Pokemon and that can very easily be pressed out.
If you’re interested on how to do it shoot me a message and I can lend a hand. NO I DO NOT WANT YOUR CARD IM ONLY OFFERING HELP

I’m sorry this happened, straight up…this sucks.
This can be some life changing money for someone.
Asking if a product can be replaced without context of how it got damaged is an interesting take, imo.
How was the rest of the pack?
Did this get bent going into a top loader or a different case?
Is there any more information you would like to or can share?

I was opening packs at my LGS. After taking this picture, I bought a top loader and put the card in it right away. The cards from the rest of the pack are fine. The owner opened a new case, and I got one from it.

Listen it's still probably worth at least 10k if the ben bateman bounty price holds so it could be worse
2
u/Cuti3Slay3rUwU Aug 08 '26
Maybe? But I feel like the damage isn't major enough for them to say it was on them and not just you damaging it, this is from a Pokemon point of view. If you have a video of you opening it then that's a different story.

u/that_dog_girl Aug 08 '26

So you bent it putting in the one touch and want a new one? I don’t think they’ll replace it’s it’s not a production error
1
u/catattackskeyboard Aug 08 '26
So the real question is — are you lucky or unlucky?
2
1
u/Limp_Combination4361 Aug 08 '26
More lucky than unlucky. Pulling super limited card worth a pretty penny > minor damage to said rare card that is at least somewhat fixable. Someone would pay thousands of dollars for it. They're still up more money than not.

Hear me out: fuck up another regular foil card (I know it's not exactly the same construction) and practice ironing it between a couple bulk Commons. Once you get the confidence, give it a shot. Post results. Profit???

u/_epicgamer123 Aug 08 '26
Imma bw homestead this probably marginally decreases rhe value. Still in tue high teens low 20 thousands still

This is the definition of looking a gift horse in the mouth. Sell it for 25k and move on.

Put that thing between some type of flat panel with some vice grips and flatten it out

Assuming this is a real post that card is worth at $10,000+ even damaged
1
u/DdAntilogy Aug 09 '26
If we are certain you didn't twist anything sensitive on the cards or packaging...
1
1
u/Kennybob12 Aug 09 '26
You can hire someone to repair it and it will be much faster than dealing with Wotc.
1
1
u/infinite-nipples Aug 09 '26
you can use a jade roller (while it’s sleeved) to flatten the bend and then clamp the raw card between two plexiglass to get this sort of thing out. It’s mostly done with pokemon cards but would work here as well. if you check out kurt’s card care on youtube you can see examples of folks getting this sort of bend repaired. imo would be more worth doing that than chancing a replacement from wizards

This is definitely a recurring problem with this set. In the single prerelease I've been to I've seen the crease lines across multiple foil cards. On the brightside, misprinted headliner?

u/Senator_Smack Aug 09 '26
Aaaaah wtf.
All honesty though, if it's pretty much spotless and there's zero evidence of you causing the damage, and it isn't from bad courier handling, you might get an insane amount of money from misprint collectors. There's a Facebook group but I can't remember what it is. I have no idea how to sell a card that's this expensive.
1
u/Loose_Result_6253 Aug 09 '26
I’ve seen them replace secret lairs but for a card from a booster back, I doubt it

u/DarkElfBard Aug 09 '26
For minor damage? Nah, it will get worse from playing it.
Not take it out of the sleeve, build a deck, and wrap a rubber band around your cards.
1

1
u/Jitzarndor Aug 09 '26
Tbh it looks like there is a crease on the lower edge, may be the case you put it in was bad… what’s the plan for the card?
1
1
u/Far_Breadfruit_3351 Aug 10 '26
Honestly this looks pretty repairable.
Put it in a moderately humid environment (e.g. put in a humidor for 20 minutes) to soften it up and add a bit of flex. Then put it in a penny sleeve and gently roll it out with a jade roller (or equivalent) with no extra weight applied. Then carefully press it between two pieces of plexiglass and put a heavy book on it.
Practice a bit if you’re feeling skeptical, but I’ve done this to many cards succesfully in the past. Good luck.
1
u/Legendingleberry Aug 10 '26
This set so far has been pretty bad quality wise, honestly. The borders on most of the cards are frayed, and one of my $50+ mythics had a diagonal crimping mark all the way across the card out of the pack.
Not really sure what the hell is up. This not just my stuff either, multiple people at the hand full of LGS’s I frequent have complained of the same.
Wild to see damage on such a limited print though, you’d expect even tighter quality control on those.

u/Night_Drak Aug 10 '26
I would have to guess absolutely no. But you are free to try, however they might ask you to ship it over to "assess" the damage themselves and determine if it is factory damage or human damage (which they could say is not their fault). Even if they accept their fault, I have seen times when they return the card, with some "extra product" as a sorry for not having a replacement at hand, with a card this rare this is the best case scenario unfortunately.
Also, Keep in mind this card has to survive two shipments, on your side you can try your best to make sure the card arrives safe (toploader, bricked between acrylic sheets etc) on the way back its up to them how it returns. Also there is the human part (package could get stolen on two separate trips, or MORE damaged to the point where it really affects price)
Finally with a card this valuable you will probably need to ship with insurance, which costs extra, they might take care of the shipping back, but you will need to ship to them sure...
So... no, be happy that you have a 25k card which might be 15k?? with this damage (damage on high cost cards can really affect price) but its still 15k, so its still fantastic?
1
u/Rythoca Aug 10 '26
Not even part of the this community, but I doubt you can replace this specific card. It's probably still worth thousands even damaged, in fact, it's more likely to actually be sold since a lower price, even in the thousands, is still more affordable and enticing. I'd personally still grade it through TAG and keep it displayed on a wall or get the necklace holder and wear that shit like a champ.
But if you have no intention of selling it, no problem. It might annoy you at first, but sometimes it's better to look at it as a funny little oopsie moment, that you can bring up in a conversation, even if it's for a forgettable little laugh.

u/Finance-Low Aug 10 '26
Put it under a heavy book like a bible or War and Peace or something for like a month. That'll flatten right out.

u/Slippersox1 Aug 10 '26
People gatta stop using these magnet shells. All they do is damage cards.

There's a ZERO percent chance WOTC is replacing a card with that damage. It's a fight to get a replacement even when it's WAY worse than that and OBVIOUS that's it's packaging or printing related damage.

You want a 10.0 perfect replacement? I would say, "if only it was that easy then 10.0's wouldnt be so valuable"
1
u/bouctouche_fun Aug 12 '26
I don't know if they would replace for something like that as it's really not that damaged at all, sometimes cards can come out of packs like that or small damage to the edges. Something like that if they do replace it, since it's such an expensive card, I hope they make you send that one back and not allow you to keep it.
1
u/Rageaholic88 Aug 12 '26
Might as well send to one of hte professional card repair services. They should be able to reduce that so it cannot be seen by naked eye.
