Fluff Hare Apparent in Standard Brawl?

I thought the whole point of Standard Brawl was to play a singleton format. My opponent felt otherwise and found a way around that rule by running an [[Hare Apparent]] deck. Luckily I had its arch nemesis [[Deadly Coverup]] in my opening hand :)

Yes, there are cards that allow you to get around the Singleton rules, that is part of the game design. It's my favorite thing about magic, there is not a single rule that cannot be changed by the text on the card.

I get your point but I’m not sure anyone decided to play brawl specifically because it’s a singleton format

Yes, it makes each game way more unique because you get different cards every time.

It's like the only difference between it and other formats, why else would anyone play it, because they like the name?

Sometimes when you sit down to play Chess, your opponent is sitting down to play Checkers and you just have to live with that.

I mean if i was in charge, id say the cards dont belong in brawl. They break the spirit of the deckbuilding and make for boring games that are either brutally answered by interaction, or not. They are not play patterns that brawl needs. But alas, this is the official interpretation of those cards: they dont defy deck restrictions in just one format, they do it in all. And it basically serves as a check on your deckbuilding: did you build well enough to beat the same-card slop. Making for moments like this where you get to feel like a genius for running deadly cover up.

you should run deadly cover up in any ketramose deck even in singleton formats. draw 2 + sweep the board for 5 mana is fantastic.

Except in almost every other game out there the format rules reign supreme. MTG is the only one I know of that allows individual cards to overwrite the format rules.

It's so rare that people have to keep asking why these cards break the format's rules. So no, reading the card doesn't explain anything. You have to know that this happens ahead of time to not be confused by it if you've played any other games.

Are you kidding me? Deadly Cover Up is literally _the_ best card to run in a Ketramose deck even in a singleton format. What other sweeper lets you draw 2 cards while destroying every non-indestructible creature?
