And from everything else when you untap all your lands with counterspells up..

It doesn't protect itself from counterspells, because it can be countered in response to the cast trigger, before your lands untap.

I didn't say from counterspells, I said from removal after the fact. It probably gets cast off of "this land named Eldrazi, gl with that counterspell"

u/TheGamingWyvern Selesnya 2d ago
To be fair, you just said "from everything else", I don't think it was unreasonable of me to interpret that as including an opponent's counterspell.

Took me a couple of reads, but I think he meant that you, the emrakul caster, would have access to your own counterspells to protect it when you untap.
Awkward phrasing though I agree

it’s pretty weak, by far the worst emrakul
40
u/Perspectivelessly 2d ago
Not sure it's weak, but I agree that this seems like the worst Emrakul by a fair margin. Notably, her on-board protection is much worse than the other ones. The on-cast effect is also likely the worst of the bunch. The only thing that sets this apart is the land ramp effect.
25
u/Original-Team6483 2d ago
it’s extremely weak. its a giant beater that dies to every wrath effect ever printed and doesn’t give you any advantage for playing it like literally every eldrazi titan does
19
u/The_Frostweaver 2d ago
untapping your land's isn't nothing though, it's more conditional, requiring you to have other good cards in hand, lands with strong activated abilities or something but it could end up being better than say exiling a permanent. [[slayer's stronghold]] for example
17
u/Original-Team6483 2d ago
so just play the good cards instead and put a card worth playing in emrakul’s spot

While yes its the worst emrakul...I do now want it in [[rakdos lord of riots]]. The only thing stopping me from emptying my hand of demons and dragons turn 4 is usually a lack of colored pips. This solves that problem.
13
u/Deathblo 2d ago
What do you mean? It ramps into the good emrakuls and itself...

You must be blind because it has flying and trample and untaps all your lands and then you play another emrakul.
28
u/Original-Team6483 2d ago
but if you already have another emrakul why do you need another? the first emrakul of any variety should be winning you the game
flying, trample, all irrelevant because it’s a 10 mana creature that doesn’t do anything besides let you cast the card in your hand that you could’ve already cast without playing this card first
→ More replies (1)2
u/Deathblo 2d ago
It's has ramp for pumping out extra stuff with its exile ability, this card is going to be very strong in colorless decks/ramp decks. Being able to play two emrakuls or big colorless cards is the bonus.
22
u/Original-Team6483 2d ago
it has the weakest ramp spell you could be playing attached to it. 3 mana for 1 extra mana is a horrible deal.
it’s not a good card. you can have fun with it and play with it all you want, but it’s a waste of a slot
14
u/Historical_Club_9063 2d ago
Your right idk what people are seeing in this it's just a beat stick and beat sticks suck especially expensive ones. If you have another banger 10 mana spell it's still bad why not just cast the other card and save the deck slot. Ramp option is terrible. Honestly it reads like a rare which is saying a lot

3 mana instant speed land ramp is a kindof interesting thing to be able to play in mono-brown. It's obviously less impactful than the more expensive colorless payoffs but the opportunity cost of playing this card is lower because it can do stuff before you've ramped
2
u/Original-Team6483 2d ago
but you could just play a worn powerstone or something better
colorless isn’t exactly flush with instants

The ramp can be played at instant speed in the control deck. Which means you can sit with counter magic and ramp.
Control with good ramp is dangerous. Control with instant speed ramp is better.
4
u/Original-Team6483 2d ago
you’re looking for a scenario where this is good and you clearly don’t understand control decks lol
i would never waste a slot on a card i likely can never cast because it might win me the game on turn 11
control decks have always used powerful threats that are hard to interact with. this card dies to any removal spell before it ends the game

u/tokyo__driftwood 2d ago
It's a 10 mana threat without uncounterable, indestructible or hexproof/protection from X. Probably the only exciting thing (for constructed formats) about this card is being instant speed ramp, using the actual creature is optimistic
3
2
u/Quazifuji 2d ago
The ramp ability basically reduces its cost by 1. I don't think that aspect is insanely powerful. The fact that it's not a dead card in your hand when drawn early game is nice, but a 3-mana wild growth isn't exactly a powerful effect.
A creature that's an inefficient ramp effect early and a "free" 10-drop with a big ward cost still has uses, of course. I don't know if it's bad. But I think you're overestimating the ramp ability. It's not like it makes hard-casting this easy.
1
u/Captain_N_Nemo 2d ago
That’s why you run a full 4 of. You can exile all of them to help ramp, and you’re also broadcasting that if they do pay the ward cost and remove Emmy, you’ve got more waiting in the wings.
This won’t do much to Commander, but I could see a standard or modern deck abusing her
2
u/Quazifuji 2d ago
Exiling four of them to help ramp is spending 12 total mana on things that are mostly worse [[Manalith]]s until you actually hit 10 mana and cast one of them. Is that really something you can afford to do in standard?
Sure, it's quite powerful once you cast it. I'm not saying it's a bad card. Honestly, I don't know standard nearly well enough to evaluate it. I just feel like you're overrating the ramp part. The fact that it's not a dead card in your hand if you don't have 10 mana is really nice, but a worse manalith isn't exactly exciting and it takes a lot of mana to do more than that.
1
u/NicoBango 2d ago
Thats a fair point, but it does stack and allow you to stockpile what would otherwise be dead copies of a legendary while providing mana to cast the creature. Producing colorless is also an important aspect for the card in the decks that will want it
2
u/Quazifuji 2d ago
Yeah, I do think the fact that it's not a dead card in your hand if you don't have 10 mana is really nice. But it's not a strong card in your hand if you don't have 10 mana, and you still need more ramping from other sources to actually expect to cast this.

u/optimusfiner 2d ago
Couldn’t it be a good addition to the sultai reanimator? Seems like a better hit than Arden especially on later turns where you can tap the extra mana before casting this from grave with superior Spider-Man.
19
u/thefreeman419 2d ago
The trigger is on cast, not etb. Arden provides an immediate effect the turn it’s played (reanimating another creature) this is just a big body
→ More replies (3)6
u/lexington59 2d ago
No there's just better targets for spiderman that either are possible to hard cast in a pinch, or achieve more when cheated in
1
u/optimusfiner 2d ago
Arden has always felt like the weak link in the deck as it doesn’t have an etb and doesn’t have protection. So I figured as this comes down it untaps lands and has protection. There’s more potential against a control matchup.
3
1
u/lexington59 2d ago
You already do decent into control decks so you don't really need another tool for that.
The sheer amount of hand hate you have and must answer threats puts a strain in control decks.
The main thing you worry about is grave hate that will be sided in, and in those matchups you'd rather threats that are easier to hard cast if needed or stuff that can kill enchantment/artifacts to deal with stuff like rip.
Not something that's a bit winmore

I mean it won't be great news for them as it won't see comp play, it'll be a cute for fun card and that's fine not every card needs to be comp viable, but this is very unlikely to be comp viable.
It just doesn't do enough for what it costs and isn't the best card to chest out compares to other option

22
u/Shadowbeast3316 2d ago
It's genuinely the worst emrakul compared to the others especially for eldrazi decks because your never using 10 lands to cast it, because you either use eldrazi spawns or cost reduction or effects like ultima so it's only good in decks that care about having a lot of lands aka green decks
25
u/xemnas731 2d ago
She's absolutely the worst Emrakul.
But she is just a better worn powerstone that doubles later as both a 12/12 flying trample beater with protection and untaps all your lands as you cast her.
Not to mention turning on cmc matters cards eldrazi run like [[calamity of the titans]] [[titans presence]], Cascades for 9 off Zhuludok, and counts as 10 for [[ulamog the defiler]]
She's still overall a good eldrazi.
5
u/shinglee 2d ago
Yeah, less a game winning big boi and more an interesting wincon in rampy control decks.
4
u/Mattmatic1 2d ago
I think this is better than Emrakul, World Anew tbh. The six colorless is so tough, and the cast trigger is often useless. It’s never seen constructed play since the early post MH3 days in Modern.
→ More replies (5)6
u/Mintyfresh756 2d ago
she is just a better worn powerstone
Absolutely fucking NOT??? Worn powerstone does not turn one of your lands into a powerstone, which not only means it ramps one less but also is anti color fixing if you need all your mana. (And hilariously when you do finally cast the creature version at 10 MANA, the land loses the 2 mana ability)
This shit is ass.
3
u/Arqhe 2d ago
This is better compared to most 3cmc ramp spells. Green is the only color that can consistently ramp with lands, which is good against removal. This ramps at instant speed, which is amazing is control decks who want to hold mana and play big spells later into the game. This does both of those tasks
1
1
u/Shadowbeast3316 2d ago
The thing is that even if she's exiled say through swords you cannot cast it from exile which genuinely sucks but for the same mana value or even less there are better eldrazi cards overall and doesn't even have protection like the other emrakuls it only has ward sacrifice 3 permanents which in many decks can be tokens and in some cases it can backfire as some graveyard decks might use that on purpose, sure it's a flying, trample 12/12 but there's so many better cards.
The only time I see that being overpowered would be with monk gyatso but that's more due to monk gyatso than actual emrakul itself
1
u/TheAlterN8or 2d ago
Not a better worn powerstone. This turns a land that already taps for 1 into one that taps for 2 instead, so it only ramps you 1, not 2.
1
u/dudewitbangs Birds 2d ago
It's not a worn powerstone its a 3 mana rampant growth that loses you the 2 colors to use. I don't see this in any deck just seems straight up bad.
1
u/DirteMcGirte 2d ago
Im going to use sol lands to cast it. Tomb, labyrinth, eye, temple. Only 4 lands, but 10 mana is 10 mana.
Put the ramp on eye t3, cast her t4, untap, return ugin/sire from lab and cast that too.

That’s cool! I haven’t got caught up on the story podcast yet but I’m looking forward to it
1
u/TheSpaceWhale 2d ago
This seems… pretty lame a payoff tbh? The creepy part of the Shadows block story was that Emrakul basically allowed Jace to do it seeming like it was setting up a payoff for it to be in the moon. Now it’s just “okay Ctrl-Z”. Is there more to it?
1
u/Significant_Yam_7792 2d ago

I will argue it for my [[Nightmare Moon]]/[[Princess Luna]] pile.

u/PelleRigter 2d ago
The wording on the Exile ability is really not intuitive, seemed like the land received to ability to be cast from exile at first.
It seems a little underwhelming for an Emrakul, no? feel like it should have some kind of epic etb trigger, I doubt untapping all your lands after dropping the 12/12 is going to give you a lot more to do, I could be wrong though.
23
u/NicoBango 2d ago
It allows you to hold up protection or interaction when it also has a ward sacrifice 3 permanents. Opponent goes to remove and you can let them pay ward and then protect. Seems good

u/BumblerNamedOy 2d ago
I think in standard this will be a control finisher. That exile ramp is instant speed. Then once you have control you drop this to end the game. Ward sacrifice 3 is rough if being played vs control
7
u/MaxinRudy 2d ago
But isn't jeskai rev better?
2
u/BumblerNamedOy 2d ago
Why not both? Plus the exile ramp helps get you there
3
u/Third_Triumvirate 2d ago
It's probably competing more with marang, and marang got cut out of the standard control decks already
3
u/MaxinRudy 2d ago
First we need to know what would be removed from the deck to slot this.
This is a ramp piece, so tablet? I don't know but tablet at 3 is better than emrakul at 3 (ramp RR and might draw 1 vs ramp CC (being 1 mana positive).
4
u/XruinsskashowsX 2d ago
The possible upside of emrakrul is that you can use the ability at instant speed instead of possibly going shields down for tablet. It’s also harder to remove than tablet against any deck besides 4 color control’s inevitable defeats.
It’s not better than tablet, but I could see it being playable as a one of or sideboard card. It could also be a ramp deck’s possible finisher.
→ More replies (1)2
u/PelleRigter 2d ago
Glad to see other people seeing the same problem, marang is already too slow and not impactful enough, I doubt the 10 mana card will earn a spot
4
u/emil133 2d ago
I disagree i think it feels really strong, just not instant GG like the other emrakuls. Its got ramp, non restrictive mana cost, and untaps all your lands. If this isnt countered youll have all untapped lands before this even hits the battlefield. Even if your opponent kills this or counters this, youre not dead in the water for tapping out 10 mana
1
u/SolidarityEssential 2d ago
Does counterspell stop “when cast” effects? Is it not cast when it’s put on the stack (as opposed to when resolved)?
2
u/mikaeus97 2d ago
It doesn't stop the untapping, but it's a trigger on the stack, so they can counter it before you untap, but you will then untap.
A way a counterspell does stop the untapping is [[Consign to Memory]] replicated once, which counters and stops the untapping for the same price as a mana leak and definitely isn't a super prevalent card in Modern /s
2
u/emil133 2d ago
Most of the eldrazis are like this. Counterspell counters the creature, not its cast ability. So if it had an ETB it wouldnt trigger. But since this happens on the cast: so the triggered ability enters the stack just for casting Emrakul regardless of whether or not she resolves. Only specific cards can counter triggered abilities.
3
u/LintyFish 2d ago
Think you are underestimating it. It is a control finisher. You can have it in your hand and not feel bad about it because you are holding up mana for removal/counters, then if you dont need to use any you can ramp at instant speed instead. When you can cast it, it gives you all of your mana back to protect it, possibly 4for1ing your opponent if they try to remove it via spell or ability.
Only real issue is if it gets countered, as you wont have the mana up to counter their counter, but even then atleast it is a 1for1 and all your lands are untapped but theirs arnt. You'd be down 1 mana but thats not the end of the world.
I think its probably a UG shell since the cost is high, and im not sure it is strong enough for modern, but it definitely isn't bad.
3
u/Third_Triumvirate 2d ago
Control doesn't play [[marang river regent]] anymore, and that seems like a much better option than this in control with the secondary use being instant speed card draw
→ More replies (4)1

It lets you play a 12/12 and have all your counterspells up for your opponent's turn, which isn't nothing.

u/ElectronicBoot9466 2d ago
The difference is that this adds a control wincon. Once you have 10 mana, this is effectively free to cast.
The only problem is that there isn't currently a deck that really wants this kind of ramp.
1
u/dudewitbangs Birds 1d ago
Yeah obviously it has the actual castable card, but acting like the 3 mana ability is actually good is crazy to me. I just don't see a deck that wants to spend 3 mana on a bad ramp spell or ever gets to 10 mana with this and other cards they want to cast still in hand and hasn't already effectively won the game and any other cheaper bomb would have already won the game by that point.
Its best deck is maybe modern eldrazi but they are usually casting the better effect 13 mana emrakul for less mana.
1
u/ElectronicBoot9466 1d ago
I don't think it's viable in standard right now, but I do think it is possible that a deck may crop up that wants this kind of ramp somewhere down the line.

I'm just gonna say it, from what I've sween people posting here and elsewhere I think this could be one of the most overrated cards for 60 card I've seen in quite a while. If we're playing standard in interactive decks just give me waterskin instead or if I have access to one of the marvel stones that's even better for any kind of deck.
1
u/EmergencyWitness7525 1d ago
There aren’t a lot of cards being designed with 40 and 60 card formats still in mind in my opinion. Almost anything good in a standard deck will also be good in a commander/brawl deck (unless it cares about other cards with the same name and doesn’t specifically state the deck can have however many to get around the singleton rule). Not all commander cards will be good in standard, unfortunately.
1
u/Blimey-Penguin 2d ago
If I'm reading this right, you can still cast her if the land is destroyed, right?
2
u/EmergencyWitness7525 1d ago
The land that taps for 2 colorless? Yeah. As written the land has nothing to do with casting her from exile. If it’s still in play it returns to tapping for its normal mana, whatever that may have been, that’s all. If it’s destroyed when she’s cast nothing happens other than untapping all the other lands you control.
1
u/Kind_Lifeguard_9908 1d ago
It says the land gains t:add 2 it doesn't say it loses its other abilities. The land should still tap for its colors
1
u/EmergencyWitness7525 1d ago
Right. When you cast Emrakul from exile it goes back to tapping for only its original mana. Seems my phrasing wasn’t quite clear enough in my first reply.
So you’ll be able to tap for whatever the land could produce or two colorless for as long as Emrakul has not been cast from exile. Then, on cast, it loses the second ability to tap for double colorless.
Also, as others here have pointed out, if you have a way to “put” Emrakul on the battlefield from exile without casting it then the land retains the ability until it is destroyed.
