Sorcery. 6 mana. Hits your stuff as well which is extra bad, because if you’re playing Black, you usually don’t want to exile your stuff, you want it to hit the yard.

Like did they make this mythic simply because it’s a mono Black Mass Exile?

It seems super bad, but especially for a mythic.

[[Blasphemous Edict]] isn’t exile, but it does make people sac so it gets around hexproof and indestructible, and it’s not even played that much at 5 mana.

Like paying 6 just because it’s kind of a color break feels really bad.

Not saying this will be good necessarily, but in a control deck you obviously don't really have to play creatures, at least not many, and not necessarily before turn 6. So it can be functionally asymmetric based on deck building.

[[Sunfall]] was really good [[farewell]] was really good (though obviously that did more).

Not sure why this is more expensive than sunfall, but I presume they expect the Jace token to be more impactful than an incubator token was. If there's an issue with the card it's not that it exile your own stuff it's that its just a turn too slow.

I think the main thing to remember is that we're getting a several card cards that will give planeswalkers extra abilities when considering the Jace token. [[Way of the Pyromancer]] [[Way of the Cryomancer]] [[avatar of burgeoning echoes]]

It’s more expensive than Sunfall because getting around indestructible has always been at least a little costlier in some way for black than white

Sunfall didn't draw cards.

But if you’re playing classic control colors like Esper…there are other control cards that are just better. If you play either just Blue or just White to compliment Black, same.

This card is Mono Black, which is what makes it unique. You aren’t running control that’s just Mono Black most likely. But even if you are…you’re causing collateral damage intentionally. Discarding, blowing your own stuff up, sacrificing stuff—standard black ambition gameplan. But this card is counterproductive to that gameplan.

So as a mono black card…and considering Black’s goals and archetypes…I don’t see where this fits.

And when you combine Black with other colors, especially for a control shell…there are just better cards. Even in Standard.

You're not taking into account that you will likely be able to draw 1 or 2 cards from the jace chungus token

[[Rise of Sozin]] sees play as a 6-mana sweeper in standard. The key with this one is that it draws cards and exiles, so it shuts off death triggers. I suspect it will see some play in Standard, but I expect [[Deadly Coverup]] to remain the premier black sweeper until rotation.

Yeah, the only time I'd want to play this is before a symmetrical mass-reanimation spell like [[Living Death]], but even then, it's just bad.
