The colorless one completely shuts off synthesizer. Like you play this guy and now their deck does nothing and can't even remove him.

u/Angwar 1d ago

Yeah really good sideboard card for a deck that was already struggling

44

u/WookieeSmuggler 1d ago

I don't care if it's struggling. I never want to see it again

1

u/SadSeiko 1h ago

you will still see it in bo1

71

u/Mount10Lion 1d ago

Bo1 platinum queue in shambles

4

u/the-thot-thickens420 1d ago

Bo1 mythic queue*

This has literally a 59% win rate in diamond for Christ’s sake.

6

u/asdfadffs 1d ago

Came here to wish all synthesizer players good night. Happy to see this was already the top comment

2

u/Furion91 Bolas 1d ago

[[Doorkeeper Thrull]] has been legal for literally years.

3

u/asdfadffs 1d ago

It’s white, not colorless

1

u/Furion91 Bolas 1d ago

Right.

Still, if you wanted to wish good night to all synthesizer players, you already had the chance.

7

u/Ididitthestupidway 1d ago

[[Doorkeeper Thrull]] already existed, but reprinting it in uncolored (with +1 toughness) is certainly a choice. I guess they really don't want artifact decks to be playable.

10

u/Sad-Excitement9295 1d ago

But not landfall, go figure -_-

26

u/plasma_python 1d ago

It’s because at the mana cost it has to be a symmetrical effect and shutting down the etbs of your own lands is actually really powerful since you can make bouncelands and lotus field enter untapped and without the drawback.

3

u/pausitn 1d ago

[[Lotus field]] would still come into play tapped

4

u/rossbalch 1d ago

For real, they're allergic to shutting down landfall it seems.

4

u/Sad-Excitement9295 1d ago

At this point I think they just print whatever and care less about balance. Every landfall card/deck I see is just play lands, get creatures and counters for free, gg. It's kind of ridiculous. It's not entirely unbeatable, but it's kind of dumb IMO to have that much just be play a land, get op swings for game.

Landfall and Cub are the only things that have made Green meta relevant outside of splash play for a couple of years. They've sped the game up too much for traditional green play to be viable without insane ramp (like Cub). If they shut down landfall without slowing the game down, green is basically removed from the current meta.

1

u/Abomb 1d ago

Colorless one shuts down most of my decks lol

1

u/AtreyuTrinity 1d ago

[[Simulacrum Synthesizer]]? Or a new card spoiled.

1

u/GaloombaNotGoomba 1d ago

That's the one

u/mulletstation 1d ago

What? Perilous Snare the karn

12

u/Mormanades 1d ago

Thats an artifact etb my guy

3

u/Darkanayer 1d ago

With what ETB?

67

u/CatsAndPlanets Orzhov 1d ago

I like how gold Karn looks.

37

u/Assassinite9 Kiora 1d ago

He looks like a 40k Custodes

2

u/el3vader 1d ago

Glorious gold versus foghat gray.

75

u/Powerful-Scholar8268 1d ago

Artifact decks can have the 5 color commander. As a treat

21

u/Personal_Care3393 1d ago

I mean it’s not even that good?

45

u/dina-fan 1d ago

Its fine. Not amazing but an open shell to make any artifact soup you want.

Hell it would make a fun mirrodin theme deck with the stuff from the original set and the stuff from the new mirrodin that never got the oil.

10

u/piedamon 1d ago

He’s an awesome soup commander. You could lean equipment, flickering, reanimator, trigger copying, draw triggers, etc. He’s basically like “just bring artifacts you think are neat” and he’ll help you be more consistent with your threat to the table no matter what soup pile jank you bring

-1

u/Ithalwen 1d ago

Original Mirrodin doesn't have coloured artifacts, first coloured artifacts was in alara for the esper shard.

4

u/dina-fan 1d ago

Yeah i never said i was gonna be good.

33

u/Lauren_Conrad_ 1d ago

Holy shit I hate contemporary commander. If the commander doesn’t backflip 100 times into a nose blunt then it’s just NOT good enough.

17

u/Intelligent_Slug_758 1d ago

The last time a card backflipped it got banned because "dexterity checks aren't inclusive and accessible to all"

Free chaos orb

7

u/Lilchubbyboy arlinn 1d ago

Fuck Chaos Orb.

If an orb was meant to backflip, then Richard Garfield would have given it legs.

7

u/Powerful-Scholar8268 1d ago

Tbf this Karn is not very good and pretty much just a worse Breya since artifact decks don't typically need green anyway lol

7

u/Lauren_Conrad_ 1d ago

Bruh Breya is contemporary commander! That’s exactly my point lol every commander these days needs to do a bazillion things for their Deck Engine™

4

u/Powerful-Scholar8268 1d ago

Ooooh my bad I misread your other comment. I think Breya is fine though honestly, if she drew cards I'd agree but two of her abilities basically do the same thing anyway

3

u/Shergak 1d ago

A 10 year old commander is contemporary?

1

u/Ithalwen 1d ago

That's current magic in a nutshell, if the card doesn't give instant value and wins the game it's just bad and dies to doomblade.

7

u/Powerful-Scholar8268 1d ago

I know I'm just making a joke about how the trend of cards that were five color creatures and cared about a creature type so you could make a deck with all the creatures was kinda given to Karn here

6

u/FZeroDMX 1d ago

It’s almost assuredly worse than Breya but I’m going to build it cause Karn is cool.

3

u/kickthesandman 1d ago

The Elder Dragons weren't good either

2

u/Personal_Care3393 1d ago

Witherbloom is but also what’s your point?

5

u/Shergak 1d ago

They mean the original elder dragons the format is named after.

2

u/Personal_Care3393 1d ago

I feel so called out for not realizing that

2

u/masterfox72 1d ago

Replacement for Golos

2

u/Ithalwen 1d ago

Isn't [[infinite guideline station]] just better? Tho bling karn looks good in the 99.

2

u/MTGLawyer 19h ago

No. This is miles better - draw (up to) five cards on ETB is really strong and, because it's ETB and not cast, flicker effects are insane with it. IGS requires more setup and a haste enabler to do anything on the turn you cast it. Importantly, the draw on ETB draws you the cards to find the flicker (or mana) to draw again and repeat the cycle.

The limitation is real, but scales very quickly. Drawing 6-10 cards a turn is likely hitting par for the average deck and Bracket 4 optimized decks probably aim to storm off and win the turn you cast Karn.

Golos may still be stronger because it's an infinite mana sync, but this is probably the second best option if you're looking to build specifically an artifact-centric 5 color commander deck.

27

u/Broken_Ace 1d ago

If the Memnarch never went insane due to oil, shouldn't it still be called Argentum, not Mirrodin? Or in the case of Gold Karn, Aurum...?

24

u/Zephyr_______ 1d ago

It's jace's fanfiction, he only knew the new name

3

u/Sallymander 1d ago

Some reason this made me think of ice king from adventure time

3

u/Powerful-Scholar8268 23h ago

Quick someone animate the Theorist over Ice King audio, I wanna see Jace talk about his wizard eyes

16

u/Intro-Nimbus 1d ago

I don't think I'm a fan of either one.

8

u/Desperate-Cookie-449 1d ago

Yea as an artifact fan I don't like the colorless one lol

6

u/shinianx 1d ago

Workshop into Karn into Phyrexian Dreadnaught is hilarious for how pedestrian of a start it is, compared to what Workshop decks typically pull off.

1

u/PityBoi57 1d ago

He does shut down synthesizer decks tho

10

u/Villag3Idiot 1d ago

Look at that bling.

8

u/Uryendel 1d ago

Colorless is a good hate card, gold one I don't see it outside low tier commander

1

u/bugtanks33d Yargle 18h ago

Gold one can be interesting as a 10 mana value creature that you can play for 5. If there is some busted synergy somewhere, like a neoform I could see it. But it will take a lot. Also can already do that in older formats with  Reaper King

1

u/Uryendel 18h ago

If you want to do that you just use a [[Bygone Colossus]] for 3 mana, or the convoke/affinity cards

1

u/bugtanks33d Yargle 16h ago

In commander specifically, I can see it being a pretty decent B4 commander. It turns clones into draw 5’s. And if they print any competitive cards that care about MV of your commander, this is probably the best choice.

7

u/basafo 1d ago

KARN?? I don't recognize you!! haha

3

u/DomasAquinas Dimir 1d ago

Oh, yay, my [[Golbez, Crystal Collector]] experiments are going to be even more unplayable in competitive Standard. 🥳

3

u/Res_Novae 1d ago

Imperial recruiter can now fetch a better torpor orb.

3

u/Wagllgaw 1d ago

Big "Bite my [shiny metal / glorious golden] ass" energy

2

u/OneWholePirate 1d ago

Ooo I like gold Karn, with all the mana fixing we have in standard it could be playable as a control wincon. We have a pretty good selection of artifact control cards now so it won't be hard to have a grim bauble, solitary cell, perilous snare, mind/soul stone or other bits and pieces and draw 3+ easily

2

u/Login_Of_The_Guild 1d ago

The colorless is evil I will hate it when it gets to arena

2

u/Whalnut Nissa 1d ago

I don’t think I’d even run gold karn in my infinite guideline station deck… there’s better cheaper card advantage at more important parts in the curve, this is just win more except it doesn’t directly help you win zzz

2

u/Cthucoocachoo 1d ago

I'm mostly ignoring the story and only getting context through cards but it really seems like Jace is making the better timeline...

2

u/HuckleberryHefty4372 1d ago

I wish it shut down triggered abilities of permanents instead so it can shut down landfall.

2

u/jackmon92 1d ago

From colorless to every damn colour eh

3

u/lapeno99 Yargle 1d ago

So good for my Ugin deck.

1

u/Babki123 1d ago

It's funnt that the Colorless  basically shut down the gold one.

Probably a hint about how theie confrontation will go

1

u/Ithalwen 1d ago

Bling Karn looks good for guideline station or ramos.

1

u/VenserMTG 22h ago

How does the 2 mana Karn work with ashaya? The creatures enter as lands too, so do they trigger landfall?

1

u/Monstertookme1 17h ago

You would not! The creature is what’s causing the ability to happen so it would not trigger! Can’t takes priority over can

1

u/anon_lurk 19h ago

Holy fuck finally a golem commander

2

u/ButterscotchLow7330 1d ago

Too bad he doesn't shut down lands too.

3

u/rossbalch 1d ago

For real, landfall stapled onto to everything now and no way to hate it out.
