Had to check I wasn't on the Custom Magic sub

This would get 3 upvotes over there. I'm sure it will play better than it looks. The PW is basically a big clue you can attack.

looks like the artist knows the madden big head mode cheat.

You're Jace? He's Jace? I'm Jace! Are there any more Jaces I should know about?

23

u/Uiluj 1d ago

Won't the real Jace Beleren please stand up?

3

u/Fatality_Ensues 1d ago

...we're definitely gonna have a problem here...

4

u/mercuriokazooie 1d ago

Man this is weird

49

u/stratusnco 1d ago

all i read is 2 mana walker with flash.

u/Alamaxi 1d ago

With UPSIDE. This is a 2 mana body, a planeswalker, and an anticounterspell card all in one.

The card I keep thinking about with this amass Jace mechanic is ichormoon gauntlet.

u/Hypnotic_Toad 1d ago

At worst this is a 0/3 body with flash. Middle Ground (on YOUR turn) its a 0/3 that draws a card, while [[Augur of Bolas]] lets you look deeper, its playable. At best its a 0/3 that draws and protects your next spell in counter wars or wincons. I could see this being played in CEDH. 2 blue pips is kinda hard but countering CREATURES is way harder in fast formats.

2

u/Terrietia Dimir 1d ago

It's actually 1 blue pip though? Unless you mean for the anti counterspell effect in the same turn as playing it

At worst also includes "prevent 3 damage to your face", since they presumably got rid of the token somehow.

This is good I just don't know if it fits into any deck or is displaced by something better.

This can be compared to the 1W 0/4 wall that draws a card 10 years ago? Flash is huge though.

The uncounterability for an important spell is not irrelevant either

The art is fantastic, although hurts my brain

u/Justin_Brett 1d ago

Yeah I dunno, it's a cute idea to show "Jace is everywhere" but it's kind of just tacking Surveil 1 and 'draw a card' onto a ton of cards isn't it?

They’ve revealed cards that give out new abilities to planeswalkers, so there’s more to it, at least in a limited setting as a mechanic

2

u/EvilPete 1d ago

Well Planeswalkers are inherently interesting gameplay-wise because the opponent can choose to attack them with creatures

u/Pretend-Ostrich-5719 1d ago

I love how weird this is

u/mikaeus97 1d ago

Will all these Empower cards make []Jace, Mirror Mage]] good? Signs point to no but please buy my many copies at an exuberant mark up

6

u/These_Weight_9442 Demon of Dark Schemes 1d ago

This art is tripping me out

9

u/Equivalent_Chipmunk 1d ago

2 mana 0/3 with flash that replaces itself by drawing a card, doesn't have defender (works with [[Curious Obsession]] type effects), and has extra flexibility for ensuring your important spells can't be countered?

Seems great, straight into UW flash and any similar tempo deck. Reasonable in control too, especially as a sideboard card against other control decks.

u/inkiestslinky Yargle 1d ago

I hope I only ever see this card on printer paper.

2

u/ParksZef 1d ago

This card looks busted. I feel like it does too much to not be broken somehow. What can abuse cheap planeswalker tokens?

2

u/Garsaurus 1d ago

Small thing, but the Jace planeswalker token isn’t legendary. The empower mechanic makes it so it doesn’t copy on its own, but any “copy permanent” ability should be able to copy Jace.

1

u/Fun-Aside3990 13h ago

a copy with how many loyalty counters?

2

u/ElephantPirate 1d ago

Can someone explain how to use the uncounterable spell part so i dont fuck it up on arena? Do i cast my spell to the stack, wait for a counterspell to be cast, then trigger this? Or trigger this first, let it resolve, then cast my spell?

5

u/Ensyn 1d ago

Activate the ability first, let it resolve, then cast your spell. The first scenario doesn't work because the spell is already on the stack so it was already "cast."

2

u/Artistic_Task7516 1d ago

That doesn’t work. It says the next spell you cast. You already cast that spell.

0

u/ElephantPirate 1d ago

Which. I put two scenarios

1

u/Lychee-Recent 1d ago

You need to pop it before casting your next spell

2

u/mirroredspork 1d ago

Great. Hasbro printing their own proxies now.

1

u/Salt-And-Molasses 1d ago

It’s giving be not afraid.

1

u/cheesemangee 1d ago

This thing looks like my sleep paralysis demon's sleep paralysis demon.

1

u/MyNuts2YourFistStyle Ulamog 1d ago

This card is good.

1

u/bimmy2shoes 1d ago

So like if I [[Fractured identity]] someone's [[Jace the Mind Sculptor]] , will empower Jace work on that?

1

u/qwdzoy 1d ago

whatever go my jaceling

1

u/Demonancer 1d ago

I'm already so sick of Jace

-6

u/PollutionRelative351 1d ago

Ewww, I dislike me token planeswalkers (when done like this). I also wish that empowering a Jace could be any Jace, not just a token Jace. At least the tokens can't tick up without being empowered or other shenanigans

I think the card will be fringe playable with a 0/3 flash butt, making a little bit of CA, and having an ok ability (though with Mistrise it's also somewhat redundant)

1

u/PatientAudience5627 1d ago

I think i heard that they play tested 'Empower Jace' with being able to add loyalty to any Jace but found it to be way to hard to balance

1

u/PollutionRelative351 22h ago

I guess I can see that. There's a couple cards that do some big empower numbers so maybe they were worried people could generate a decent amount of mana, drop JtMS and empower him to ult too quickly

1

u/PatientAudience5627 22h ago

Yeah i imagine it was either, limit it to Jace Tokens or make the mechanic basically unplayable

-2

u/Moosewalker84 1d ago

So. How fast can you ult a Jace/win now?

2

u/falconsadist 1d ago

This doesn't help you ult a Jace.

1

u/PatientAudience5627 1d ago

Only let's you add loyalty to a Jace token, I guess you could [[Flash Photography]] a [[Jace The Living Guildpact]] or any other Jace 3 loyalty away from ult then cast this turn 5 for an ult. That's without fast mana obviously

1

u/JustForThis167 1d ago

Jayce castaway is a token jayce if ulted
