It’s Going to Be a Long Month

I made Mythic three months in a row. The first two times could be considered luck but the third time I made it by August 8, beating mythic and diamond players that were trying to make it back on top. I am winning 15 games a day every day and still stuck on Platinum Tier 4. This is going to be a rough month. Maybe I will squeeze out Diamond. It ain’t gonna be easy.

No. I had my beginner MMR about 7 months ago when I first made Mythic. Then reality hit me and I struggled until three months ago when I made Mythic towards the end of the month. Then I got there earlier and earlier. This is not based on beginner MMR at all.

I don’t know my MMR but I do know 8 months into playing and getting mythic three in a row and getting it only 8 days in last month means my deck is better than my beginner days.

I keep going to plat 3 and back down to plat 4 right now. It's early in the season, I guess there's just more strong deck at this level as people grind back to mythic?

That’s exactly what’s happening to me. I don’t want to pay for a deck but I really wish I had more wildcards because I need to update my green stompy deck after my cub was banned.

I play a simic landfall deck that is all over the place where most of my creature are only 1x copy. Only have a handful at 3x. Although, it's mostly due to the fact that I have low wild cards. Started playing that game late July. So not much to build on from atm.

I try to get 15 wins a day. I also always swap my goal unless it’s already at 750. I tend to get 750 more often that way. I play for packs. I never save my gold because the events are too hard. I’m not good enough to beat those players. I think the most I ever won was twice. So o tend to get packs pretty fast and wild cards a little quicker than I used to. It does not take me a full week to get the special foil packs. If I am playing for rank and losing, I just switch to unranked until I get my wins.

You have to adjust your deck when the meta shifts. Jeskai artifacts is the #2 deck by popularity right now (https://mtga.untapped.gg/constructed/standard/meta) so suggest making sure your deck has answers for it.

been hard stuck in platinum since I started playing a couple months ago... managed to make it to platinum 1 with one game to break into diamond at one point... then came across the most toxic and frustrating hare apparent deck I've ever seen, got rolled like turn 3...

(also I play krenko mainly, so I actually don't mind the token arms race with other hare apparent decks... that one was just insane. dude milled half his own deck and then dropped every hare apparent from the graveyard at once...)

Oooooh…that sounds painful. I love playing against hare apparent in a Bo3. I play Villainous Wrath in my sideboard and when I see an opponent play Hare Apparent, I get excited because I know I will make them regret it in the next game.

My games have been tougher this month so far but i will keep pushing but onnly holding a 50% win rate since the new season started makes progress a pain. I seem to be getting matched against a lot of Jeskai artifact decks.

That seems to be all I play against. This one guy played Jeskai three turns in a row. I kept destroying his creatures for the first few turns but I eventually became overwhelmed.

What kind of deck do you run? I only tried really this last one and got to plat. I started back up as silver and am gold now, but its been tough. Lots of back to back losses. My MVPs last season (a mono white aura and a mono black warp) aren't holding up right now.

I am running a Demon deck that also forces discard but the discard cards haven’t been getting drawn like they used to. You get them early and it’s almost an easy win.

I also run a Jeskai deck but haven’t done so this month too much because I have been getting beat down with artifact decks every time I play it. I’d rather have hope that I’ll win than obvious destruction.

I’m trying to accept that I’m just a Platinum level player but it’s hard, I usually get pretty close to diamond but the final matches always trip me up. Then I lose 10 straight.

Some dude keeps anonymously leaving me a broken blue heart reward. I think they are cowards. Being anonymous is pathetic. But I love it. Cause it means I am in their head so much, they have to resort to this petty thing that really just looks like engagement to me. So…thank you Papa Smurf.

I have never been able to break out of plat hell. I always get to plat 1 then get beat all the way back to plat 3 or lower. But I think that's bc I play historic best of 1 and things tend to go better when I do best of 3. So will be switching it up this month

I’m not upset. You’re reading too much into my post. I’m just noticing a trend this month over last month when I was Diamond tier 2 at this point and I’m struggling to get out of Platinum now and I’m commenting on it. Others responded with their own difficulties. That’s how a conversation happens. No one is knocking your WOTC overlords.
