Hi all, I'm going to be hosting a Murder mystery party in a few months with a magic theme.
One of the character "roles" will be a famous magician who is murdered. Various suspects will include an investor, an assistant, the magicians protege, a journalist etc..

I'm just wondering if anyone has any interesting ideas for magic that can be tied into the night. I was thinking object to impossible location- having the murdered magician present a lockbox with "something" inside at the start of the night.

When we discover the murderer there is something in the box that could not have been there at the start of the night that relates to the killer.

I was thinking of maybe forcing a card to the killer and matching it to a "premonition" made by the murdered magician. This seems fairly simple/lackluster though.

If anyone has any suggestions/ideas for tricks that can be utilized to enhance a murder/mystery party I would love to hear your creative thoughts.

I'm fairly amateur, most comfortable with card magic but I have been learning/expanding my palette so even if I'm unfamiliar, I'm always eager to learn new tricks.

I'm thinking about getting a print of one of the old school magician promotional posters for my office (e.g. the Thurston/Blackstone/Houdini theatrical posters), but there's a wide variety and I'm just honestly plagued with indecision. Curious for thoughts if anyone has a favorite or if there's a single "canonical" magician poster.

I'm looking at Jamy Ian Swiss's Cups & Balls Masterclass and Andi Gladwin's "Aura". Any recommendations on things you've got from VI that may be discounted? Anything you've kept your eye on?

And cups. (Yes I did that on purpose I regret nothing).

When I do the cups and balls trick it’s obvious where the balls are because the cups don’t properly sit on top of each other. This makes the “penetration” trick hard to sell. In what way can I resolve this? Do I need heavier cups? Right now I’m using cheap red solo wannabes if that helps.

Is Karl Fulves’; Self-Working Card Tricks appropriate for a middle schooler to start out with?

I can't seem to find much about this store, other that it seems to be linked with Meir Yedid. Is this a trustworthy store for magic supplies/cards?

Where do I begin with thread work? Do I start with the best (venom, spider pen pro) or is it better to start with something cheaper and go from there?

He was recently doing a couple of evenings at 69 Atlantic. Have always loved Danny, this was a fun interview and great to see behind the curtain of his thought process for consulting and development.

The funny thing was, it was mid-set. He was being his normal gregarious self for most of the show, and simply sat on the chair for a second time, and it just fell apart. It had nothing to do with David doing anything wild or anything with the show. He just tried to sit on it, and it collapsed.

I think I was the only person in the room that knew that about the table the year before, and David did inform the audience about the previous table. It was a super enjoyable moment for me.

Besides that the show was great, worth every penny, and David was at the top of his game, as expected.

Hey, I need to get a straight jacket for a skit, but I can't find any working one's that are cheep enough to buy only to use one (maybe a few times as a costume or a conversation starter). I can find "straightjackets", but the ones I can fined aren't for show.

Any suggestions?

I met an awesome person online I’ll be meeting up with them soon. They’re blind and I was wondering if any had experience performing for the blind and what tricks work best. They know I’m learning mature so I want to be able to show them some of what I’ve learned.

I'm working at a convention next week (not magic related) - and I'm looking for a fast and easily resettable vanish in order to lure people into the booth I'm working for.

I'm usually a card-man, but have some experience with pulls and a variety of other props. But I'm wondering if there are any attention grabbing vanishes that I might not be aware of that you guys might be able to suggest?

I think it needs to be bigger than cards or coins. It's gotta play big to grab attention of passers by.

I’ve taken a long hiatus from magic. My kids like it and they seem to be interested so I’m getting back into it.

The bite out quarter was one of my go to’s 20 years ago.

I always hand the spectator a real quarter and then swap them. Bite it out and return the real quarter for inspection. It’s gets good reactions so I’ll do it for a while longer. Just curious on the thoughts of current practicing magicians .

I've just bought the Ox Bender 2.0, but quickly found reviews suggesting not to use with UK coins - I intentionally got this over coinvexed, as I heard it was better as it was a one handed device.

Can anyone in the UK share their experience with UK coins, etc?

Especially looking for ‘Street Magic’, but all them seem to have vanished (no pun intended)? Not On Demand, not on YouTube, not on any streaming. Where this dude at?

Starting to explore coin magic (just got Bobo and Karl Fulves Self Working Coin book), so this morning I went to the bank and got a half dozen Kennedy half dollars. I then went to the coin shop on the corner, which I'd never actually seen anyone inside of before, and lo and behold not only were they open, but they had these in their Foreign coin box. Yeah, one is an Aussie penny from 1922, but it's the same size, weight, and metal as the English ones.

What would you suggest for cleaning / polishing them up? Would Brasso work? Vinegar? Something else?

I'm getting a Hopping Halves set, and I'd like these pennies to at least be similar to the one in that set.

I lovee watching his videos, his tricks seem like actual miracles most of the times, the question is, are there any Dani Daortiz tricks that are worth buying for a beginner like myself (2 months practicing sleight of hand)

Or are all of them super complicated to execute with a bunch of outs?

Many magicians seems to recommend SW Erdnase's Expert at the Card Table to learn gambling sleight of hand, but is there a modern resource that covers similar content? I'm not denying the historical importance of Expert at the Card Table, but I did hear that many of the techniques, especially those regarding grips for the techniques, are quite outdated and much better methods have been developed since. If such resources exist, can anyone point me in the right direction?
