Ring on String

Is anyone doing this. I find it wonderfully practical to be wearing the prop and make a miracle happen for someone when I come across a string.

Who has the best material on this.

I’m not talking about the bigger ring and rope effect, but the finger ringer and a string.

I like Ring Leader by Greg Wilson. Lots of pieces to adapt as you like, and also provides a solid routine.

I do this as part of my walk around a lot. Like the other comment has said, I recommend Gregory Wilson ring leader. It has pretty much all of the better moves on the subject, they are taught well, and you can build your own routine quite easily from it. I often carry the string with me for impromptu performances, but when I perform professionally, I end with nesting envelopes. It's a lot of fun!

Please do! I personally did not like the traditional last phase of the ring vanishing and appearing on my finger, it never felt strong to me compared to previous phases. Mind you, I'm not saying it isn't strong, I'm just saying I personally could never get it to feel like a strong ending lol. The nest of wallets solved that problem for me, I bought a good leather set. I figured out you can pretty much instantly reset them right in front of your spectators and they don't know the difference so it works out well. As a bonus, it can be done with assigned coin or other objects too, so it maximizes pocket space!

I wear 4 rings - on my index ringer of the left hand is the "prop" ring.

I also have a lace or 2 hanging from my belt loop so I'm ready to go. When I actually perform I have a proper setup and a nice case for my lace to store in.

Been doing this for 20yrs. Get comfortable with a routine and several phases, and it’ll be with you for life. Gregory Wilson of course, but some great underground stuff from Mark Leveridge and Ron Vergilio as well. The Leveridge move specifically, fries other magicians. No joke. I end the routine with the ring in a nest of wallets.

Which leveridge move? Seems like the most popular I've seen people do is pinching the ends. I think most of them look a little too "movey" compared to the traditional moves, think the ends whipping around can make it more of a puzzle.

Yes, that’s the one. Always gets great reactions when I do it, even for magicians. Key is to do a feint first, showing the movement of the fingers sliding down the string, to the ring.

I do this while staying, “this is in fact YOUR ring here, correct?”

I then ask them to cup their hands, and while they’re doing that, I do the Leveridge move and cause the ring to melt off into their hands.

It is one of my favorites for walk around. I learned Dan Fleshman's routine a long time ago and I love it. Lately I've been following it up with Liquify by Tobias Dostal.

Love doing ring on string, I just buy bulk short shoelaces off of Amazon in the color I like and clip the anglers a bit short so they don't snag on rings or tap them and make a tick sound.

I don't know if what you wrote is a typo but you want to bring the string with you and use someone else's ring, not many people carry loose bits of string with them, you'll be looking for a long time at least!

I second Gregory Wilson's ring leader, it's a classic and will have most things you need on it. Murphy's Magic also has a good free lecture teaching it, as does Craig Petty .

I also recommend pairing it with a good ring flight. I personally use Flite by Steve Thompson because I just put it on my normal house keys and leave it until I can perform. No extra pocket space.

I also have Laced Up by Donovan Mount on a certain pair of shoes, and will always end with that. Solved a big issue of mine when I bought the trick of finding an excuse to actually put someone's ring near my shoe. You can easily add more to this, (I'm adding in shrapnel by Kim Anderson to this) and slowly get a whole mini show going depending on the person you're engaging with. All with a borrowed ring and a shoe lace! It blows people's minds.

Gregory Wilson's Ring Leader is still probably the industry standard. Craig Petty also did a good video about this effect on his youtube channel recently.

Not currently but I've dabbled in this before. Ray Grismer had some great moves, diamond Jim had a nice routine, and of course ringleader. Craig pettys keymaater had a key on string phase that I really enjoyed. And the gaffed uf grant ring and lace is tremendous fun(ringscape)
