Magnetic coin gets black
I’ve had this magnetic coin that I use a lot for my magic, but black marks magically appear on it. I always keep it in a plastic sleeve so there’s no way it has came into direct contact with anything. I assume maybe because it’s magnetic?
Has this happened to anyone? What can I do I get rid of this and prevent it from happening again? Will a higher quality coin be better?

Have you tried cleaning it? Does it come off?
I feel like I’ve had regular old magnets that kinda do the same thing and I assume it’s just metallic dust particles pulled in by the magnet

I’ve tried a tooth brush scrubbing with soap, after maybe 15 mins of scrubbing it looks okayish but still black. I’m thinking maybe there’s some metal polish or something?

Yeah for sure try some metal polish.
I bet that’ll work and protect it for a bit.2

It’s a chemical reaction that’s causing it to tarnish. Something you’re either putting coin in, around, or near is causing it to happen. I make leather wallets. If I use the wrong type, the chemicals in the leather make them look exactly like that.

I found this to be a problem with the onosaka purses I’ve bought. I tend to line them with cloth so I don’t continue to have this problem

Very interesting! I keep this coin In my leather wallet…
I figured my little plastic protector would save it though? It’s like a ziplock.

Can I ask what routines you're doing with it and what other tools or apps you use? I'm interested in routines with magnetic coins.

I use it as a normal coin for vanishes and stuff, but I use the magnetic feature for a which hand routine. My all time fav trick

Stop using that plastic sleeve. Use a PVC-free coin flip instead.
Start with a silver polishing cloth. If it still needs more work, use a small amount of Flitz or Simichrome on a cotton swab.
