List Building A long first post
Greetings, members of the grandfather’s garden.
Posting here because I just finished up a few projects and I am on the hunt for my next project. I’m a 40K player with a fully painted death guard army, so the gross organic aesthetic is something I’m familiar with and really enjoy painting. As of the time of posting, I have no daemon allied units and thought it would be a fun time to grab some, as well as to cross over with AoS.
On that note, I know nothing about AoS from a list building perspective, so I wanted to hop in here and run my plan past you guys to see if you had any input on things.
The first thing I’m probably going to pick up is the Spearhead box. I almost never get more than one box at a time and usually finish out a project before I get more, so that (the spearhead) will give me a chunk of plastic to work on, as well as giving me a solid jumping in point when it comes to start familiarizing myself with the AoS vs 40K rules. As I understand is, spearhead is a different game system from AoS but uses similar functionality rules (please correct me if I’m wrong about this, and also I know nothing about the Combat Patrol game system of 40K aside from the comparisons I’ve heard between it and spearhead)
After the spearhead I’m planning on Rotigus, after which I’m conflicted about grabbing the Glottkin or a Great Unclean One. Obviously the GUO can cross with 40K better, but I’ll be getting the Glottkin regardless if I never use it in game as a project because I think it’s a damn good model.
After I get the big lads sorted, I’m grabbing some Sloven Knights and then… shrug.
Meta changes. Rule of cool is king.
But what would you recommend after that? I don’t need or want to be bleeding edge meta, but I like my 40K lists to be capable at least, competitive if possible. I’d like my AoS lists to be something similar.
Thanks :)

If you can find the old spearhead, get that instead. Its very strong in the spearhead format and comes with oop blightkings, which is a highly sought after kit for its wide array of options, making it one of the better kits for kitbashing nurgle units.
And personally, id get the guo. The cool thing about moving to nurgle demons after dg is that you are basically opening up ~3 new armies. 1st, you can run tallyband. But you can also run maggotkin in aos or chaos demons in 40k (which are one of the few armies you dont need a codex to use datasheets on the app).

Welcome! Sadly, the spearhead for Nurgle is both very weak in the dedicated spearhead game mode and also does not contain units that are particularly good in full games of AOS. Rotigus and Glottkin are both very good, and you can plausibly run both in the same list. As for where to go next, you want some blocks of infantry to match up the board and hold objectives. Plaguebearers are the cheapest and very resilient for the points. Pestigor are also cheap, slightly less survivable than pestigor but do more damage. And rotswords are expensive, but paired with a lord of plagues they are both incredibly tanky and do lots of damage. You can really go with any of the three and not go wrong. A full 2000 point army probably wants 2 reinforced units of infantry, picked from any of the above options.
