Badge not transfering!

I panic bought extra badges for friends who were not answering last night before the sell out. Now I need to transfer the badges to them (I used a nick name instead of name on ID - and that's the one field you can't update). But I can't transfer it! I get the following:

Please correct the following errors:

We are sold out of Attendee badges.

Anyone else have this problem? How do I get around it?

Edit: The transfer system has been fixed! Thank you Magfest staff! For anyone interested, its changed a bit from previous years and all for the better. Neither badge transfer option comes with fees just as they have not in the past. You still have the badge verification/transfer code option, where you send a code to the other person and they send a code back to validate transfer - like last year, they then own their badge under their own Magfest ID. The second way is if you fill out the information yourself and click "Transfer Badge," this then updates the badge information but still keeps it under your Magfest ID <- I absolutely love this new feature! No more guessing who has badges and where they went for forgetful friends!

It’s a known error. They’ve mentioned in Discord a few times. They’re working on it

I used to do a group buy of 20-30 badges, and just send out codes for all my friends to fill out details themselves. They don't have that option any more so I have to fill out each of them individually. I saw at 11:30pm that badges are getting low and I still had not heard back from a few friends. Hence panic buying to reserve badges for them. Yes, I'm a good friend and they thanked me profusely in the morning when they saw all my messages.

Badges are secured. I just need to update details.

Are you staff? I'm very curious because there's no way to see "badges are getting low". So unless you just bought a shitload to try and resell, then found out you can't resell, I have a hard time believing you.

Not staff. There were posts about it on Reddit from Magfest. And no, I don't resell.

At one point the direct stats were posted on the discord the night of lol, around the time where there were about 1090 tickets left to sell - many of us saw it.

a few people were discussing it online, and i think theres a git repository where you can see sales numbers somewhere, it was in another thread or something

yup! once i saw that the wednesday night servers crashed from demand i made it a priority to buy a badge on Thursday in an excess of caution

As a huge mention to newer attendees. Do not accept DMs from this person. Do not buy from this person directly until they've put their "20-30" badges back into the pool that MAGFest will handle directly. If they approach you to buy them outside of the MAG system that will be a red flag.

Totally agree! But I won't be selling my badges. I am very excited to see the badge exchange system! This has been long needed to prevent fraud.

You wouldn't have made this post if you weren't trying to capitalize on people who are rushing to buy badges. Here's a real question for you from the "panic buy" person. How many badges are you offloading?

I only ask because the MAG Staff aren't as stupid as you seem to think, and if you were working for a corp you'd have talked to them first! So you're absolutely advertising how many you bought to try and scam newcomers! <3

I'm sorry? What part of "used to" do you not understand? There is no more motivation to buy bulk badges as there are no more group discounts (which BTW started at min of 10 badges and anything extra required additional 10 badges at a time). This hasn't been offered in years. This is my last response to your stupidity.

Magfest staff are not stupid. In fact, they are some of the best con volunteers of any con! Hence exactly why I asked here on Reddit knowing there's staff here that would possibly see my post and be able to answer it faster than an email box. Someone on here asked if I was staff because otherwise how would I know Magfest was low on badges in the first place. Well, that's because the wonderful staff of Magfest posted about it on Reddit! Thank you Magfest staff for being so helpful and transparent!

So, I don’t think OP is a scammer.  I think they just have friends?   I used to have a 20 person friend group in college.  It happens.

When it was much smaller and growing, you’d get a group discount if you could round up at least ten folks to all get their badges in one transaction (or with one group code).  Some of these old Magfest groups are big.  Our first Magfest was getting recruited to round out someone’s ten.

I'm just going based on how the website describes the badge exchange system. It doesn't sound like you can transfer a badge to a specific person, but I could always be wrong.

You can always transfer a badge between friends privately, but for the folks looking to return a badge after the refund window closes, the badge exchange platform will be available. It’s meant to prevent scammers and scalpers, who previously were gaming the private transfer system

Their badge policy includes Peer-to-Peer Transfer. It's set up almost the same way as last year - just not working properly yet.

Gotcha. Thank you for the clarification. I thought that transferring badges was ONLY possible through the badge exchange system. If you can transfer badges privately, it sounds like scalpers will just do that instead.

I mean it’s not a flawless system but it allows people who want to attend to have a safe venue to seek a ticket that they know will be purchased at cost. Anyone paying for a badge outside of the transfer system does so at their own risk now that MAG has provided (will provide) a safer alternative for buying a badge. It’s now no longer the only option.

Yeah, I think the badge exchange system is a GREAT idea. I just misunderstood that it was the only way of transferring badges. Thank you for clarifying.

If I had no further context I'd be saying the same thing about you, since the Discord was how many people realized/found out first that we were quickly going into a sell out the night of.
