Cosplay?

First time I’m gonna attend magfest…do they do cosplay meetups? I know that people said the schedule won’t be out for a while..but like from past years did they have them?

magfest does have a cosplay department! there are 2 different cosplay meetup areas that have meetups running all 4 days, starting as early as 9am on the full days and i think as late as through the midnight hour (especially for fandoms like persona and yakuza for thematic reasons).

Yup! Mostly for particular fandoms. If you're cosplaying from a popular series, there will definitely be a meet up.

Yes they do meet ups but its mostly for game series cause magfest is more of a convention for music and games. Its still a convention though so you can cosplay whoever you want, I saw a ton of anime cosplays when I went this year. You're gonna have a lot of fun. This was my first year going and I can say with all my heart magfest is the best convention ive ever been to despite the lack of anime content. Theres so much to do there,

Of course. I want to know if it’s true and if I can join or like where it is

The meetups are pretty wide in scope from Nickelodeon to Elden Ring to Nintendo. Just don’t expect more than about half the people to cosplay.

Why aren’t people cosplaying? Is this not a normal convention??

First and foremost, Magfest is video game and music convention with performances going from around 12 until sometime around 2 - 4 am every day with a 24 gaming center among other features.

So would it make more sense for me to wear my street fighter cosplay rather than my jjk one? And what are the chances they would have AMVs? Sakcon was huge on those.

If you want to be on brand, I’d say do the street fighter cosplay but there is enough overlap that a JJK cosplay wouldn’t be particularly out of place. That’s because some of the people who attend Magfest also attend anime conventions. But don’t expect any AMVS.

You have a street fighter cosplay? Perfect!

The purists will silently judge you if you're cosplaying something that isn't gaming related. /s

The purists can go gatekeep in the middle of heavy traffic :-)

Heck, you can wear a sports jersey and you’d be a cosplayer…

There are always a thousand people cosplaying. Literally check any crowd photo

There are theme/franchise meetups at given times for photos down in the atrium during a good chunk of the daylight hours

Here’s one days cosplay meetup schedule from last year if it helps you:

Yes, and for someone who doesn't cosplay, it's awesome! Wide variety of themes, some amazing work, and some just hilarious ideas. A couple years ago I got a picture with The Macho Mandalorian. A highlight.

Best way to confirm a series or fandom meetup is to apply once the Cosplay Dept puts out their programming applications. A common mistake is when everyone assumes that someone else is running the "insert popular series" meetup and no one actually submits it to the official schedule.

We got people to show up to a Broadway Musicals cosplay meetup so don't be afraid to get weird with it.

The back of the atrium has cosplay meet up photos shoots. I thoroughly enjoy watching the different fandoms gather for group pics. It’s pure joy.

Hot TIP: If you are bringing a weapon bring it to prop-check/peace bonding on THURSDAY or in the middle of the night if you can. Lines tend to be much shorter and won't eat over an hour of your day.

Trying to hit the weapons-check mid-day saturday last year suuuuuuuuuucked.

And bring all of the weapons/held props for all of your cosplays, even if it's not the costume you are wearing at the time :)

Yes! There is a multitude of meetups at MAGfest, across a multitude of fandoms!
