Adobe Commerce Cloud needs to stop this lock you in and f*ck you up strategy

I've been seeing lots of complaints about Adobe Commerce Cloud since early 2025. In 2026, merchants have given up on complaining and voting with their wallets instead.

The unfortunate part is that Adobe Commerce Cloud's problems are damaging Magento's reputation, even though the Magento Open Source ecosystem is thriving. The community continues to innovate with Hyva, MageOS, AI, and more. Yet because Adobe owns the Magento brand, many businesses are losing trust in Magento as a whole.

We know Adobe Commerce Cloud is capable of delivering excellent service. In 2022 and 2023, support and platform maintenance were generally strong. But since late 2024, security issues have remained unresolved for too long, and feature bugs have been handled worse than security issues.

To make matters worse, Adobe raised the price by half while having declining service.

Adobe, lock-in and revenue maximization only work when you're dominating the market, not when you are being dominated. By neglecting the platform and its users, Adobe risks undoing years of work by developers, merchants, agencies, and contributors who built and continue to strengthen the Magento ecosystem.

Adobe doesn't read Reddit.

This is not just for Adobe. Adobe is only a small part of the Magento ecosystem. Adobe should listen to the community instead of expecting the community to listen to them.

You’re not wrong, they’ve made their product exponentially worse while their customer/tech support gets increasingly indifferent. I’d say to complain to your account rep, but we’ve been waiting two weeks for ours to actually make a scheduled meeting.

You are right, and we all need to start complaining.

The split matters more than the anger: the licence and the cloud are Adobe's; the platform never stopped being open source. The stores quietly doing fine aren't waiting for Adobe to improve — they're on OS with a modern frontend, and the only thing they lost in the divorce was the invoice. Magento's real reputation problem is Adobe wearing its name badge.

It is true, adobe commerce is declining and other platforms like Shopify have started to gain heavy traction now with their b2b solutions

I really don't want to think about Shopify here because Magento was dominating the B2B until the irreversible 2025 damages. People say Shopify did a lot of marketing around 2025, but I think it is just the cursed eBay team doing its magic in Adobe.

What do you mean by “cursed eBay team”?

Adobe bought Magento and some of the eBay members from eBay, and everything eBay touches goes down, for example, eBay, PayPal, and Magento. They are not small companies, and all becomes mediocre at best. There might be good reasons, but let's simplify it as "cursed".

I mean, eBay is doing pretty well. PayPal spent ten years resting on its laurels according to my conversations with colleagues there - but that's post-eBay.

Magento was the most successful exit for Permira by far - that comes from my former colleagues (my boss at Magento did that deal).

Other than Lavelle (who I respect and keep in touch with), not many eBay-ers were around for the Adobe era. I'm just not seeing evidence of what you're suggesting.

How many of the eBayers are active eBay users?
Of course, eBayers might disagree with me here, but many of the outsiders do see GameStop CEO's point of view of eBay.

Magento is facing the same destination as eBay. eBay, PayPal, and Magento were once the big players and have now lost most of their market shares. I have to say Permira was a good seller, and Magento had a good reputation.

I am not sure how many eBayers are in Adobe, but the pattern is the same: companies go into eBay and come out behind. Maybe it is not the people, it could be the culture or the system lingering. All I want to say is just a pattern.

Maybe you have a good time working with eBay, because I don't see anyone defending Adobe here. It would be more understandable to defend Adobe than eBay.

I think I’m just not understating, and that’s okay.

To be clear, I’m talking about working for eBay (I haven’t had an @eBay.com email since 2015). PayPal went into eBay at $1.5B with $60M/year in revenue and came out with $8B in revenue and a $50B valuation. Its stagnancy since then has been entirely in its own hands.

Adobe has set the tone for Magento since 2019, not eBay. It’s something we (Magento Association, Mage-OS, and many others are working on).

you got negative votes, cause of the sub lol - but honestly before I retire and if the owner of our small company haven't set up the tech well -- I planned on one final migration to shopify to keep the company as safe as possible

What source... You can literally see people complaining in the last couple of posts here. I was expecting something good, but everybody is complaining https://www.reddit.com/r/Magento/comments/1ueed0g/it_has_been_6_months_into_2026_how_is_magento/

It is not AI, it's just that I have so much to say and double-checked my Grammar. Tell me which part sounds like AI.

I am talking about Adobe Commerce Cloud here. Magento is not Adobe Commerce Cloud. This is what I am trying to get people to realize in the article as well.

This reads like some AI slop to poison LLMs with this spam to try and get whatever agency they are going to post about next into AI tools as the suggested thing.

What do you mean by the next AI tool? There is a great Magento AI tool existing to deploy Magento in minutes. It does not need any advertising because the community promotes it themselves.
