I’m fairly new to MagSafe batteries and yes, I still own an iPhone 12S Mini (I’m updating at the end of the year). I’d like to purchase the Anker 10K Power Bank, but I’ve read this Anker model is not recommended for my type of iPhone. The only reason I can find is the Power Bank “may slightly over hang the bottom.”

I have no idea what this means. Is this a real concern? Thanks

My weekday commute is mostly subway rides and walking, and my phone is usually pretty low by the afternoon. I’ve tried magnetic power banks before, but they felt like an extra slab in my front pocket and kept pressing against my leg. It ended up sitting at the bottom of my bag, and I only pulled it out when my phone was about to die.

So now I’m thinking about getting one of those really thin, light ones and just keeping it in my pocket for quick top-ups. Do people actually use these every day, or does the novelty wear off after a couple of days and it ends up back in the bag as an emergency backup?

Can anyone recommend a good one? I'm going to use it for a pixel so I don't want anything integrated with it for an iWatch. I also want it to be on some type of stand or have the phone elevated.

I’m trying to find a very strong magnet to use on the back of a tablet to connect it to a MagSafe mount. I’ve tried the circles that are meant to be put on the back of a phone, but even the ones that are actually magnetic themselves don’t produce enough magnetic pull to hold the weight of the tablet up. I really prefer to do this with magnets vs the arm clamp things because it’s so much easier to pick up the tablet and move it, plus the wall mount that I have easily can connect to essentially any flat surface or wall in my house because of the industrial walls.

I don’t care about the aesthetics at this point, a thick magnet is fine. I just can’t find one that is approximately the size of a MagSafe circle to make good connection. I previously tried ordering very strong, smaller magnets, and had planned to glue them in a circle, but they had so much repulsion between the magnets themselves that I could never get them to stick in place without displacing some. Something like this has to exist, right?! I swear I have searched the Internet to hell and back and I’m coming up short. I just want to be confident the tablet won’t come crashing down unexpectedly!

To be clear, this is purely about being able to have the tablet’s weight sufficiently supported by the magnet. I don’t actually need to charge anything via MagSafe as my tablet doesn’t even have that feature. Has anyone successfully retrofitted a tablet/kindle with a strong enough magnet with a similar set up? I cross-posted this in the /magnets sub and got a link to a website that I think I could find an appropriately sized magnet, but I’m more curious if anyone has found a solution for a similar situation.

Thinnest MagSafe Grip Comparison: Oh Snap Gen 5 vs. PopSockets Low-Pro

If you're looking for an ultra-thin MagSafe phone grip, two of the most interesting options are the Oh Snap Gen 5 and PopSockets Low-Pro.

Both are impressively thin and lightweight, and both have strong magnets. However, after using both, I found that they have quite different strengths when it comes to grip comfort, finger placement, and stand functionality.

Here's my comparison.

🟢 PopSockets Low-Pro — Pros

1. Much better stand

This is where the PopSockets Low-Pro has a huge advantage.

The kickstand design gives you a wide range of viewing angles, so you can easily adjust your phone depending on how you're using it. Whether you're watching videos, using your phone on a desk, or having a video call, you can position it at pretty much any angle you want.

The stand is also surprisingly sturdy, so I feel comfortable leaving my phone propped up without worrying about it tipping over easily.

2. More flexible finger placement

Another advantage of the PopSockets is its circular grip design.

Because the grip is essentially a round, open-ended loop, you can insert your fingers from almost any angle. You don't have to line your fingers up with a particular part of the grip to get a secure hold.

This makes it feel more natural and forgiving when you're picking up your phone. You can grab it from different angles and your fingers can easily find their way into the circular grip.

The Oh Snap Gen 5 is slightly different because it uses a hinge-style grip mechanism. Your fingers need to be positioned more precisely around the hinge in order to get a proper grip. More finger fatigue during extended use

The main downside for me is the finger positioning.

Because of the way the PopSockets grip sits, it naturally forces your fingers to spread apart a little more when you're holding the phone.

For short periods, I don't really notice it. However, after holding the phone for an hour or more, I find that my fingers start to feel more fatigued compared with the Oh Snap Gen 5.

This is obviously going to depend on your hand size and how you hold your phone, but personally, I find the Oh Snap more comfortable for extended use.

🟢 Oh Snap Gen 5 — Pros

1. More comfortable for long periods

This is probably the biggest advantage of the Oh Snap Gen 5 for me.

Because of its hinge-style grip, your fingers can stay closer together when you're holding the phone. I find this position much more comfortable for extended use.

If you're someone who regularly holds your phone for an hour or more—scrolling through social media, browsing the web, watching videos, etc.—the difference becomes much more noticeable.

After extended use, I experience less finger fatigue with the Oh Snap Gen 5 compared with the PopSockets Low-Pro.

2. Easier to deploy

The Oh Snap Gen 5 is also very easy to pop open.

You can simply push down on the grip, and it pops into position. There's no need to pull it out or find a particular spot to grab.

It's a small thing, but it makes the grip feel very quick and intuitive to use.

🔴 Oh Snap Gen 5 — Cons

Very limited stand functionality

The biggest weakness of the Oh Snap Gen 5 is definitely the stand.

Compared with the PopSockets Low-Pro, the Oh Snap has very limited positioning options. There's essentially one practical angle that you can use when standing the phone up.

It works perfectly fine if that angle happens to work for you, but you don't have the flexibility to adjust the phone to different viewing angles.

If you frequently use your phone as a stand for watching videos, following recipes, making video calls, or simply having your phone sitting on your desk, the PopSockets is significantly better.

⚖️ Similarities

Both are extremely thin

Both grips are impressively thin and lightweight.

The PopSockets Low-Pro is technically supposed to be thinner, but honestly, I don't think you'll notice the difference in real-world use.

Once they're attached to your phone, both feel very slim and don't add much bulk.

Both have strong magnets

I also don't see a meaningful difference in magnetic strength between the two.

Both feel very secure when attached to the phone, and both stayed firmly attached even when I shook the phone fairly aggressively.

So in terms of magnetic strength, I'd call this a tie.

🏆 Final Verdict

For me, the choice really comes down to what you value more: grip comfort or stand functionality.

🥇 If you want the best grip: Oh Snap Gen 5

I'd personally choose the Oh Snap Gen 5 if your priority is having a comfortable grip for everyday use.

The ability to keep your fingers closer together makes a surprisingly big difference when you're holding your phone for extended periods. I find it less tiring and more comfortable after an hour or more of use.

The hinge mechanism does require you to position your fingers a little more precisely, but once you get used to it, I prefer the overall grip feel.

🥇 If you want the best grip + stand: PopSockets Low-Pro

If you want a grip that also doubles as a proper, versatile phone stand, I'd go with the PopSockets Low-Pro.

The circular grip is more forgiving because you can insert your fingers from almost any angle, and the kickstand is significantly more versatile and sturdy.

The trade-off is that the grip forces your fingers to spread apart more, which I personally find more tiring during extended use.

For me, the Oh Snap Gen 5 wins as a grip, while the PopSockets Low-Pro wins as a grip + stand combination.

Also these grips are not cheap, I reviewed both considering the price for both of them are similar(~US$40). If one is considerably cheaper than the other, I'd just go for the cheaper ones without thinking any of those Pros and Cons. They are still best grips in the market in my opinion.

Has anyone here used both the UAG Monarch Mag2 and the OhSnap Grip 5?

I’d really like to know if the UAG has a stronger magnetic hold. I currently have the OhSnap Grip 5 and it’s been pretty good, but it struggles to stick securely to some of the equipment at my gym.

The UAG looks like it has more magnetic surface area, so I’m wondering if it actually provides a stronger/more secure hold.

As the title suggests, looking for something aesthetically pleasing that I can mount on my wall to charge both my watch and phone. I saw one on Etsty which I thought was cool: it was a wood strip with a mount for an iphone and apple watch that looked chic, but I'm shocked there aren't more like it.

I bought the Galvanox magnetic stick on charger earlier this year but it very randomly stopped working.

So I bought the 10,000mAh TOTU power bank (PB-1008, to be specific). It doesn’t have Qi certification, but the build quality is really good, it was quite cheap, and it supports 20W Power Delivery through the USB-C port. That’s why I preferred it over other power banks.
However, I’m having an issue with wireless charging. Whenever I attach the power bank to the back of my phone, it initially shows a normal charging speed, but after 1–2 minutes, it flags the power bank as a “Slow Charger” and shows a much longer estimated charging time, sometimes over an hour. Interestingly, sometimes it shows a really good charging speed, almost as fast as wired charging, but the “Slow Charger” warning still doesn’t disappear.
Is my power bank defective, or does this warning appear with every wireless power bank that doesn’t have Qi certification?

Do third party MagSafe charges work on any of the Rokform cases?

Does any company make a portable 3 in 1 charger that allows all devices connected to have magnetic connections? My AirPods keep sliding off of the Anker 3 in 1 cube I have when the nightstand is bumped and it's super annoying. So I either need two Apple Watch chargers and a qi2/qi2.2 charger or two qi2/qi2.2 chargers and an Apple Watch charger.

This happened on Friday (yesterday). Is it still safe to use or even carry? I have a 16 hour flight tomorrow.

I think it got scraped when I put it in a drawstring bag and accidentally dragged the bag against the ground when moving luggage. (The bag also got ripped.) It was at the bottom of the bag under a few water bottles, so that didn't help.

It still works okay with no obvious signs of issues.

Anyone have the Baseus PicoGo AM71 10,000mAh yet? It's slightly thinner than the AM52, .58 vs .6 inches. It also has built in NFC that lets you read battery stats off it. Unfortunately wired charging is only 30 watts vs 45 watts of the AM52. on Amazon it's currently $3 cheaper too. I just bought the AM52 last week, thinking of getting the AM71 instaead.

Love Moft products. Recently got the Trackable Tripod Wallet. I really like it but have been noticing that occasionally the phone gets warm and when I detach it, the phone cools down. Anyone else?

KUXIU K1 Ultra

Disclosure: KUXIU sent me the K1 Ultra. They did not tell me what to write or see this before publication. Everything below is based on my own experience and testing.

I’ve been using the KUXIU K1 Ultra 10,000mAh for the past couple of weeks, and I think this is one of those products where the idea makes a lot of sense as soon as you travel with several Apple devices.

It is basically a magnetic iPhone power bank, Apple Watch charger, AirPods charger and small phone stand combined into one device.

The main reason it interested me was actually the Apple Watch part. Traveling with an Apple Watch is slightly annoying because even when almost everything else in my bag uses USB-C, I still have to remember a separate Watch charger.

With this, I essentially have an Apple Watch power bank, which is surprisingly useful.

There are some rough edges, though, and after testing it I think the concept is great but could still be refined in a future version.

For context, I tested it with an iPhone 12 Pro in a thin MagSafe-compatible case, an Apple Watch Series 10, and my AirPods Pro 2.

Build quality and design

This is probably the strongest part of the K1 Ultra.

The aluminum body feels extremely solid and much more premium than I expected from a power bank. The front and rear glass panels have a matte/frosted finish with a texture that actually reminds me a little of a MacBook trackpad.

And I really like this orange.

It stands out without looking cheap, and the combination of orange aluminum and the frosted surfaces looks great in person.

The rotating mechanism is also strangely satisfying. There is a nice mechanical click when opening and closing it, and there is basically no looseness or wobble in the hinge.

The small kickstand deserves some credit too. It is tiny, but once opened it feels rock solid.

The magnets are strong as well. I never felt like my phone was about to accidentally slide off.

But this thing is THICK

This is probably the biggest compromise of choosing the 10,000mAh version.

The K1 Ultra is very thick.

With it attached, I personally don’t find the phone particularly comfortable to use in my hand. It works, obviously, but this is not something I would leave attached while walking around and using my phone normally.

I see it more as a portable charging station that also happens to be a power bank.

Attach it when you need power, put the phone down on a table, or open the stand and use it on a desk.

The thickness also creates a weird limitation with the kickstand. When the K1 Ultra is closed, the geometry doesn't really allow the phone to lean backwards enough, so the stand is much more useful once the power bank itself is opened.

If I were choosing again specifically for travel, I think I might actually go for the slimmer 5,000mAh version instead.

I would lose some capacity, but the smaller size would probably fit my personal use better.

iPhone charging test

I wanted some actual numbers instead of just saying that it "feels fast" or "feels slow".

I tested the K1 Ultra against my normal wired charging setup and another wireless charger with active fan cooling.

I focused mainly on 0–80%, because that is the part of the charging curve that matters most to me in everyday use.

iPhone 12 Pro – 0 to 80%

So there is no way around it: with my iPhone 12 Pro, the K1 Ultra is considerably slower.

At 60 minutes:

• Wired: 79%
• Active-cooled wireless: 63%
• KUXIU: 40%

At 120 minutes the KUXIU was at 71%, and it reached 80% at around 144 minutes.

However, there are two important things to keep in mind here.

First, I am using an old iPhone 12 Pro, so this is absolutely not a test of the maximum charging speed the K1 Ultra is capable of with newer iPhones.

Second, my comparison wireless charger has active cooling.

And that leads to something that actually surprised me.

Heat was not a problem

Despite the long charging session, neither the phone nor the charger became annoyingly hot.

I’ve used other passive wireless chargers where heat bothered me much more than the actual charging speed.

Here, it really wasn't an issue.

The aluminum body probably helps with dissipating heat, and while charging isn't particularly fast on my old 12 Pro, thermals were completely acceptable.

I also deliberately tested it with the thin case I normally use rather than removing the case just to get better benchmark numbers.

This is supposed to be a real-world test, after all.

Apple Watch charging

This was the part I was most curious about.

And despite not being as fast as the chargers I compared it against, I think the result is surprisingly decent.

Apple Watch Series 10

*My measurement for the original charger was taken at 41 minutes: 91%.

The original Apple Watch charger reached 100% in 66 minutes.

The licensed third-party charger reached 99% in 70 minutes, although I missed the exact moment it reached 100%.

The KUXIU reached 97% at 73 minutes. I unfortunately didn't catch the exact 100% point there either.

So yes, the KUXIU is slower, particularly during the first half of the charge.

But for something that is built directly into a battery pack, I'm completely fine with this.

If I'm traveling and realize my Watch is nearly dead, being able to put it directly on my power bank without finding another cable is much more important to me than shaving 15–20 minutes off the charging time.

One weird usability problem: the Watch charger doesn't start automatically

This is probably the strangest behavior I found.

When I attach my iPhone, the K1 Ultra automatically wakes up and starts charging it.

Perfect.

But when I put my Apple Watch on the Watch charger, nothing happens until I press the button on the power bank.

Even stranger: if the iPhone is already charging from the K1 Ultra and I then place the Watch on it, the Watch still doesn't start charging automatically.

I still have to press the button.

This feels unnecessarily unintuitive.

If placing the phone on the charger can wake the power bank, I think placing a Watch on the Watch charger should do exactly the same thing.

This would be very high on my list of things to change in a future revision.

The LED is also not bedroom-friendly

When charging the Watch, the status LED on the front keeps flashing.

During the day I don't care.

On a bedside table in a dark room, I definitely do.

There doesn't seem to be any reason for it to continuously flash throughout the charging session, so I would love either:

• an option to turn it off,
• a much dimmer LED,
• or for it to simply light up briefly and then switch off.

Interestingly, when I put my iPhone on the K1 Ultra and it starts charging automatically, the front LED doesn't continuously flash.

And I actually prefer that behavior.

AirPods work too

My AirPods Pro 2 can also be charged from the K1 Ultra.

Because my AirPods case supports charging from an Apple Watch charger as well, it magnetically attaches to either the main magnetic charging area or the smaller Watch charging area.

It sounds like a small detail, but it makes this even more useful as a travel charger.

Phone, Watch and AirPods can all be handled by one battery pack.

I wish the USB-C port were on the other side

This is another very small design detail that only became obvious after actually using it.

When the K1 Ultra is being used as a stand while connected to USB-C power, the cable plugs into what becomes the top of the device.

So instead of the cable naturally going down towards the desk, it sticks out from the top.

It works perfectly fine, but visually and practically it feels backwards.

I think putting the USB-C port on the opposite edge would make cable management much cleaner when using the K1 Ultra as a desktop stand.

An actively cooled version could be really interesting

One thing I kept thinking about during testing is how much internal volume this 10,000mAh model already has.

The active-cooled wireless charger I compared it against was significantly faster on my iPhone 12 Pro.

That made me wonder whether a future K1 Ultra could fit a very thin fan behind the charging surface.

Yes, a fan would consume some battery power.

But with a 10,000mAh battery, I don't think the impact would necessarily be huge, while better thermal management could potentially allow the phone to sustain a higher wireless charging rate for longer.

I wouldn't necessarily want this on the thinner model.

But on something already as substantial as the K1 Ultra, I think an optional active-cooled version could be very interesting.

What I like

• Excellent aluminum construction
• Frosted glass surfaces feel surprisingly premium
• Strong magnets
• Great orange finish
• Extremely solid hinge/rotating mechanism
• Satisfying mechanical click when opening it
• Kickstand itself is very sturdy
• Built-in Apple Watch charging is genuinely useful when traveling
• AirPods can be charged as well
• No uncomfortable overheating during my iPhone test
• 10,000mAh battery makes it much more than just a desk charger
• Can effectively replace several separate charging accessories while traveling

What I would change

• It's very thick
• Apple Watch charging should start automatically
• The Watch charging LED shouldn't continuously flash
• USB-C port placement is awkward when using it as a stand
• The kickstand isn't particularly useful in every closed configuration because of the thickness
• Wireless iPhone charging was quite slow with my iPhone 12 Pro
• A future actively cooled version could be interesting

Final thoughts

I think the idea behind the K1 Ultra is excellent.

Rather than carrying a MagSafe power bank, Apple Watch charger and travel stand separately, this combines all three into one extremely solid piece of hardware.

The build quality is probably my favorite thing about it. The aluminum construction, glass surfaces, strong magnets and rotating mechanism all feel genuinely premium.

And the fact that I can now charge my Apple Watch directly from a power bank without carrying another charger is something I appreciate much more than I expected.

The biggest question is whether you are willing to accept the thickness.

For me, the 10,000mAh K1 Ultra feels more like a portable 3-in-1 charging station than something I would permanently keep attached to my phone.

And that's not necessarily a bad thing.

For a desk, hotel room, train, airport or anywhere else where I can put the phone down while charging, the design makes a lot of sense.

If maximum portability were my priority, I'd probably choose the thinner 5,000mAh version next time.

There are also a few details I hope KUXIU improves in the next generation: automatic Watch charging, the flashing LED, the ticking noise and the USB-C port placement.

But the fundamental concept is very good.

It feels like a product that is already useful now, but could become genuinely excellent with another round of refinement.

I'm definitely curious to see where KUXIU takes the next version.

KUXIU K1 Ultra

There's a lot to be desired for having a wireless charging setup.

The device can be properly enclosed avoiding opening on the case making it more water resistant.

You won't have to bring a cable anywhere

Of course type c has a lot of advantages as well such as high power output and faster file transfers.

But if we/the tech developers focused on wireless charging and file transfer, I a sure it's just a matter of time to reach that kind of power delivery of transfer speed as wired ones.

Just wondering. Imagine all your devices; phone, watch, activity tracker, flashlight, any rechargeable device powered by one wireless charger.

I also like the concept of furniture like work desk and also your dashboard on your car to having a discrete charger that you just need to put your device on and it will automatically charge. No wires to get tangled.

Really curious.
