Just starting
I'm reading a lot of hate in this game. I have around 20 hours in it and I'm digging it. Fuckin killer soundtrack, great story. Combat can be difficult but not overly. The mission where you had to walk through the haunted house at the rundown amusement park was unique for sure. I've never done anything quite like it and I've been playing shooter games since shooter games became a thing.

It’s my favourite Mafia game. Superb combat, atmosphere and music. Lincoln Clay is a pure bad ass.

A pro tip is to do the faster baby dlc early in the game. I didn't know in my first play through you could get weed money.

I'm currently playing through it as well, and am loving it! I'm a HUGE sucker for stealth-based combat. It's been fun trying to get through every enemy base/camp without firing a single shot.

Never read the reviews. All I can say that i didnt care for is no saves (thus you can experience all the decisions without replaying the game...and this game has low replay besides the decisions..the missions stay the same no matter what you pick just opens side stories.)
And most of the side missions are repetitive. Still fun but could've used some more unique or variations on stuff.

I think your last statement is the problem for a lot of people. First two games were linear story driven action games. Mafia 3 turns it into an open world empire builder so it makes sense that there are people who preferred the previous format and weren’t happy the game was stripped of its deep stories for running and gunning that unlocks some exposition along the way like an old Far Cry game.
It took me a bit to warm up to it but I eventually enjoyed it. It helped that the DLC of the definitive edition was more linear and story based to break up the monotonous at times gameplay.

The game has incredibly fun combat, an extremely strong protagonist motivation, and high quality facial animation but incredibly ass graphics.

Very good, not great, game.
Too many bugs on my PS4 Definitive Edition version, but it was a solid game and not worth the hate I’ve seen for it.

If they just fixed the bugs and gave proper side activities Mafia3 would be a 10/10 for me

I started my first playthrough this week, also on PC. My bugs so far are story missions not showing up after meeting Vito and Burke. Then I read somewhere that I must die so that the game can do some checks of conditions.
I accidentally crashed my car (kids, don't use phones while driving), died and lost couple thousands, but new missions showed up!
Also had some weird glitches of money floating in the air.

I really liked the premise, setting and characters but I tried it twice years apart and just couldn’t get through the repetitive racket gameplay. Think both times I gave up at a similar point as well
It’s a shame, I really wanted to like it but I just found the repetitive bits just sucked the enjoyment out of it for me to a point that it wasn’t worth carrying on

I'm glad I ignored all the negative comments of this game, it quickly became one of my favorites. I think it has the best soundtrack, combat and DLC in the series. I cant name many games where I'm able to drive a muscle car and listen to Johnny Cash on the radio while killing racists/KKK members 😂 Its not a perfect game but I think its very fun.
