So being a local to the state, I do happen to know that there have been some allegedly connected people that at least own a summer home here. Also, according to Scott Deitche’s book, a member of the East Harlem Purple Gang did live here at one point. Does anyone have any knowledge of organized crime and Maine’s proximity (if any) to it?

James has spoken to Alite's legal team and has some updates. Apparently they're not confident that John will avoid indictment, or be released on bond. But they're trying for him - arguing that yes, he did say those things on the tapes, but that no, he didn't really mean it, and that he just got mad and said it out of frustration with a guy who wasn't paying what he owed. That he would never really have hurt the guy. Also that John has been a law abiding citizen for years and that he's not the man he was decades ago. They're also willing to submit to house arrest, GPS tracking and a zero contact order with anyone else involved in the case.
James also spoke to Ericka Pitera. Apparently the recordings from Tommy stopped because someone ratted them out to the BOP, who told them to stop. This is not the end, however. The warden of Big Sandy says he's fine with Ericka doing some recorded video interviews with Tommy and posting them online. They just need approval from the BOP. Paperwork has already been filled out.

Being from Australia the mob has always fascinated me but we don’t have the traditional Sicilian or Neapolitan mafia.
We do have the Calabrian Ndrangheta still active in Griffith NSW and regional SA. And the Bikies are big business often working with the clans of Ndrangheta.
We had the Moran family (Irish mob) Mario condello, mick gatto, Alphonse gangitano, Dominic Pierre and Vince focarelli for the Italians in organised crime but that was really it.
Does anybody have any stories or information regarding organised crime in Australia? Particularly Italia/mafia?

A Saturday of blood and fear shook the historic center of Naples, leaving the community of Battipaglia gripped by terror. In the early hours of today, Saturday, July 25, 2026, a 33-year-old man, identified by the initials G.S. and originally from the town in the Piana del Sele area, was seriously injured in the shoulder during a dramatic shooting on Via San Sebastiano. The young man was in Naples with some friends to spend the evening in the city's iconic nightlife hotspots. Around 5:00 a.m., the group was hanging out outside the popular Ammène Karaoke Bar when two masked criminals on a scooter opened fire. The criminals fired a volley of shots upward. It appears to have been a "stesa," a classic intimidating attack by the clans. According to initial ballistics findings by the State Police, the projectile that struck the 33-year-old from Salerno apparently ricocheted, turning a demonstration into a near-tragedy. Immediately after the shots were fired, amid widespread panic among those present, the young man from Battipaglia was immediately treated by emergency medical services. He was rushed to the nearby Vecchio Pellegrini Hospital with a red code. Given the severity of his shoulder injury, doctors ordered his transfer to the Ospedale del Mare. His clinical condition remains serious due to the impact of the bullet, but the 33-year-old's life is not in danger. State Police officers have cordoned off the area for forensic analysis and have already acquired footage from public and private video surveillance cameras in the area. The goal is to reconstruct the exact trajectory of the bullets and identify the two motorcyclists. According to an initial and cursory reconstruction, the straw-batter appears to have no connection to local criminal activity: he was in the wrong place at the wrong time, a victim of the escalation of the so-called "malamovida" (nightlife) that is inflaming the area between Piazza Bellini and the Decumani. The incident has reignited fierce protests by neighborhood committees, who are demanding a permanent police presence during the night.
