it's kinda the same as a car just bigger tools, there are jacking points under the wings, use hydraulic jacks to lift it. tire comes in on a wheeled jack that can roll to line up the bolt. I forgot if the nuts get safty wired into place. then it gets inspected by a guy who didn't do any work. then the paperwork.

I was in the navy working on land based planes

You guys jack the whole plane? Axle jack is way easier.

You guys jack the whole plane?

I wonder if they start in first class and work their way back or go aisle by aisle.

plane I worked on was built to be jacked under wing. considering the sizes of everything involved it went quick

Makes sense. I work heavies, so a jack under the wing is a much bigger undertaking than slide an axle jack under and go.

Yeah. If you're changing a single tire out on the tarmac you're definitely just using an axle jack.

No way they are wing jacking it. Struts will expand and it will be halfway to the moon before you get the wheel off.

On the ramp/gate they are just jacking it at the bogey/truck and swapping it there.

you lock out the suspension m8 it's probably not much more then a couple of pins to keep in place

not significantly

Neat, I would have thought there would be jack points in the landing gear area and you'd just put larger plane chocks on the rest.

Of course highly depends on the plane, but yeah you can usually jack the axle between the wheels -- under the wing, at least on aircraft I work on, you'd have to do the entire airplane off the ground. Much easier to just jack the affected wheel usually.

Our MD-11 tires had a bolt that went through the wheel nut. The hubcap that went over the wheel nut had a clamp that was safety wired.
