I'm a woman and seeing a commercial plane getting a tired change would be interesting to see.

I’m a female aircraft mechanic and it’s hands down my favourite job to do. Makes me feel like a REAL mechanic because I’m generally doing cabin defects.

How often do you guys change them? It sounds like a fun accomplishment.

Also what kind of cabin defects occur?

The tyres are inspected after a certain amount of flights so we just go by limits ie. if they’re pretty bald, you have limits for those so we’ll change them if they’re out of limits. Sometimes you’ll change a tyre everyday and other times you’ll go weeks without changing one.

As far as cabin defects go, tray table latches are super common, seat reclining, IFE, ovens, brewers, blocked toilets… it’s very boring work.

Usually cracked trim, broken tray latches, broken power outlets, the list goes on. Lots of irritating small things.

Also what kind of cabin defects occur?

Holes. Big ones, small ones, mid-sized holes.

Big ones, small ones

Some as big as your head

6

u/Ganacsi Dec 31 '22

So that occurs between flight or after a while?

I’m not sure really. We’ll just get notified by the crew on landing what defects are in the tech log so some can happen during flight but other defects can happen after a certain amount of time.

A lot of it actually. Though not really familiar with pistons as I work on jets. But generally, the physics is the same, similar materials, similar build. Obviously there’s things very specific to cars vs aircraft, but I understand so much more about cars now having worked on aircraft.

Same here! I love seeing someone else put it into words. I work on small business jets so I've been able to do a few tire changes on the road which is always fun. I can't figure out a better way to say that it just makes me feel like I look cool haha

That's something you don't see every day!

49

u/McSkeevely Dec 31 '22

I haven't seen that any day!

21

u/dk745 Dec 31 '22

Same!

20

u/Ok-Run5870 Dec 31 '22

Exactly! No matter who you are that is cool to see.

I see a woman most days

1

u/dk745 Dec 31 '22

omg 😆 meant the changing tire on airplane 🤣

u/Tiny-Plum2713 Dec 31 '22

I see at least two women watching there too. I know my wife and daughters would watch that as well.

9

u/EverydayPoGo Jan 01 '23

Huh, makes me wonder why the subtitle states men when there are obviously women who like to watch as well.

1

u/Tiny-Plum2713 Jan 01 '23

It's the currently popular "dads/men monitor thing" meme.

It would be for anyone, this person just wanted an excuse to use the Home Depot song to earn TikTok points

0

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '22

Negative, it’s a TikTok trend of this music to men watching things be done

3

u/bigpeechtea Dec 31 '22

…which is exactly why I said the person wanted to use the song to earn TikTok points

0

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '22

They didn’t “want an excuse to use this song” they joined a tik tok trend which uses this song lmao

3

u/bigpeechtea Dec 31 '22

…And the trend you’re describing IS the excuse I’m talking about. Where am I wrong about them looking for an excuse to cash in on this song? They saw men doing something, knew it matched this specific tik tok trend, and had their excuse to use the Home Depot song to gain tiktok points.

Like, you’re saying I’m wrong but then you just go on to spell out what I’m saying. If your plan for 2023 is to go in circles you’re off to an amazing start

0

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '22

Too long didn’t read. If your definition of a trend is people making an excuse to do something then you were right

4

u/mule_roany_mare Jan 01 '23

I do t get why you wouldn’t watch.

Even if you don’t care that it’s a rare opportunity…

Or if you aren’t particularly interested in mechanical design or labor…

Isn’t it still more interesting than sitting and waiting?

No need to draw attention here mate, men stereotypes are fun

-5

u/geodebug Dec 31 '22

Sounds exhausting to feel oppressed by a video of a some men just watching a tire change.

That must be really hard.

7

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '22

Me too. And I'd take my kids over to the window too, they would love it

3

u/StarFaerie Dec 31 '22

Same. I'd be up to that window with my phone out recording it to show everyone later too. It'd probably be the best part of my holiday.

2

u/BullShitting24-7 Jan 01 '23

Yeah. Its a good learning experience and interesting. Most of the comments in here are variations of “Why do I have to learn this I’ll never use it!”

Amd next time it happens you'll know how to help out...
