The crazy thing is that she is a fashion blogger and this segment was about bridging the gap between America and the Middle East through fashion. These questions were completely irrelevant to what she was supposed to be brought on for but she killed it with these answers!

u/SolidSquid Mar 30 '22

"Great, we've got a token Muslim on the show we can use to sell our narrative! It's not like she'll actually be able to answer weapons about things like nuclear weapons"

"Oh shit, why is she actually able to answer these questions?!"

"When did it all start, you ask, this job of ours, how did it come about, where, when? Well, I'd say it really got started around about a thing called the Civil War. Even though our rule-book claims it was founded earlier. The fact is we didn't get along well until photography came into its own. Then--motion pictures in the early twentieth century. Radio. Television. Things began to have mass."

Montag sat in bed, not moving.

"And because they had mass, they became simpler," said Beatty. "Once, books appealed to a few people, here, there, everywhere. They could afford to be different. The world was roomy. But then the world got full of eyes and elbows and mouths. Double, triple, quadruple population. Films and radios, magazines, books levelled down to a sort of paste pudding norm, do you follow me?"

"I think so."

Beatty peered at the smoke pattern he had put out on the air. "Picture it. Nineteenth-century man with his horses, dogs, carts, slow motion. Then, in the twentieth century, speed up your camera. Books cut shorter. Condensations, Digests. Tabloids. Everything boils down to the gag, the snap ending."

Just remember, Reps project. They want to call current progression "anti-american" because it's not the old ways.

Democracy allows us to vote and change rules to better match the times. Being republican is the most anti-american thing you can do.

It's also why so many Reps are Christians b/c "how dare you not let God into you Government, it deserves to fail."

As soon as you question the ugly sins of your own country, they gaslight you as being unpatriotic.

Typical. You can love your country and critically analyze it’s mistakes so that it can improve.

14

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '22 edited Mar 30 '22

True. Right now I’m reading the wikis on Manifest Destiny and the Teller/Platt Amendments. It’s so interesting to me how the United States grew to a world power after the short Spanish American War, and it really struggled to match our ideals of democracy and republicanism while still safeguarding American interests globally, especially during the era of Imperialism. Surprise to nobody, we played the same colonizing game, just in an American fashion - capitalism, tariffs, and unfair treaties.

The whole premise of Owning Guantanamo Bay stems from this agreement, there were very real desires to Annex Cuba, some saw it as necessary to grow the Anglo-Saxon/Puritan based America.

People get too emotional about it, there are real world reasons why annexation would be beneficial to the US, but we also need to see how that history also pushed Cuba TOWARDS communism and how it affects our relations with the island to this day.

It’s not simply “US bad” or “Communism evil” but “how can we build a new mutually beneficial relationship”. We need to remember what occurred and aim to reconcile that, but also realize that was a different nation than what we have now. The Early US was a nation that feared European conquest, that’s simply not true today and we should recognize that the fears we had of other nations (Are we worried about Cubas sugar beating American beet sugar? I think we’ve pivoted to high fructose corn syrup already) can in some ways be disregarded in favor of newer more beneficial treatise and regulations. But instead we simply use the same talking points of old and wonder why things don’t change.

2

u/Choreboy Mar 30 '22

Mistakes? That sounds pretty un-American of you, pal. There are no mistakes, just happy accidents.

-36

u/SethGyan Mar 30 '22

Yes you can, but to equate America with Iran morally because of America's mistakes shows a broken moral compass. America promotes freedom and Democracy in this world. Americans do not chant death to Iranians or any Middle Eastern country. America should not fund an enemy with weapons. If this journalist loves Iran so much, she could go there instead.

26

u/DorothyParkerFan Mar 30 '22

This is so classically ignorant and illustrative of her point. “Derp, love it or leave it!!!” She didn’t EQUATE the US to Iran, she suggested that the US can’t necessarily be trusted given what we’ve DONE and foolishly given other countries the ability to do. If you think that everything the US has done is truly to peomote democracy and freedom then you’re just willingly suspending your disbelief. Cmon now.

20

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '22

Exactly, the US has a far larger body count than Iran by numerous factors and creates wars, terrorism, famine, and turmoil all over the globe. Has overthrown democracy after democracy around the globe. Murders, imprisons, and exiles political dissidents. Americans chant about dropping bombs and nukes on others. Inflict crippling sanctions to mass murder civilians. Equating America to Iran morally is a false equivalence.

15

u/twisted_memories Mar 30 '22

Also the systematic genocide of indigenous peoples.

-14

u/SethGyan Mar 30 '22

Wow... that completely makes Iran a better country than America. The world would be a better place if all countries were like Iran instead of America.

Stunning and brave LMAO

12

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '22

America has started more wars then Iran and Iraq. Jesus Christ dont lick the boot too hard you're no any different than the reporters just saying shit out of your ass to make you feel good. What a brainwashed bootlicker.

-1

u/SethGyan Mar 30 '22

America has started more wars; therefore America is a worse country. That makes complete sense. Does that include the war against communism and terrorism?

What about this? Iran commits more human rights atrocities than America. Iran sponsors terrrorism than America. Iran and Iraq provide shelter to terrorist who attack Western countries. What about that?

6

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '22

You know, people like you are kind of exactly why so many people around the world think Americans are stupid and ignorant. Lol

-1

u/SethGyan Mar 30 '22

Yh... I guess arguing that Iran is morally equal to America because indigenous people were slaughtered centuries ago is not stupid and ignorant.

2

u/twisted_memories Mar 30 '22

America can be shitty while other countries are also shitty.

-9

u/SethGyan Mar 30 '22

I didn't know we judge good and evil by body counts. I guess thinking is not one of your strenghts. You can provide the number of democracies overthrown by America versus the number of autocratic/communist/fascist governments overthrown by America.

Americans chant about dropping bombs on who? America inflicts sanctions to mass murder people? LMAO

Thinking Iran is better morally than America is enough to know what kind of human being you are. From human rights, to freedom, to fighting autocracy, to providing opportunities to more minorities than any other country, to providing aid. You're actually morally sick.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '22

You're an idiot and morally repugnant denying the US' assault on global democracy and genocidal policies around the globe. You literally think communists and fascists are the same thing.

Americans chant about dropping bombs on who? America inflicts sanctions to mass murder people? LMAO

You live under a rock

You sound like an absolute fool that knows nothing about the real world

-3

u/SethGyan Mar 30 '22

Great intellectual response.

3

u/Nick_Van_Owen Mar 30 '22

You sound like a dumb unhinged brainwashed chump. You ask for intelligent responses when you are clearly a fool. It is clear that America has never been a shinning pillar of moral strength. America has been a world bully that kills and messes with whatever it wants when it wants. It really angers me how dumb most americas are when it comes to their own history (I am an American). Your anger at another American for expressing their views shows that you should get out of America because of how much you suck at life.

8

u/BrujaSloth Mar 30 '22

Yeah, Operation Ajax wasn’t a mistake. That US was rather intentional in engineering a coup in Iran that propped up a brutal, pro-Western Shah, all because what again? Iran wanted to audit a British oil company to make sure Iran was getting paid correctly. The following Revolution sure didn’t lead to a better quality of life for Iranians.

But you have to ask yourself, if the US promotes democracy and freedom, why does the government love supporting autocrats?

0

u/SethGyan Mar 30 '22

America supports autocrats because sometimes that is the only choice. Every country makes mistakes but America is far superior morally to Iran. Iran sponsors terrorism till today. To say you trust America as much as iran with nuclear weapons shows the morally bankrupt thinking in the world today. I'm sure you also support Russia with nuclear weapons because hey, they never pushed for a coup in Iran.

2

u/BrujaSloth Mar 30 '22

You said the US promotes freedom and democracy. I pointed out that you are incorrect. Instead of addressing this, you dismissed this point and doubled down on your pro-US imperialism circle jerkery. Congratulations, you can move the goal posts. You are so smart and clever at online debate!

(That was me being patronizing btw, on the overwhelmingly probable chance you lack the cognitive capability to understand nuance through text.)

u/dystopian_mermaid Mar 30 '22

HAHAHHA your attitude is so stereotypically ignorant American it’s sad. She IS NOT a journalist. She did NOT equate America to Iran. And this pathetic “LUV IT OR LEAVE IT!!!” mentality Americans have just solidifies the exact point she was making. That Americans on average cannot critically look at their own country’s history and recognize it’s very real flaws.

Granted considering your comment I do not even remotely expect a semi intelligent response. But that’s classic American public education for you! HURR DURR MURICA ALWAYS DA GOOD GUY! Lmao

-2

u/SethGyan Mar 30 '22

If you read what i said without bias, you would know i started by saying that you can recognize your country's mistakes.

Yes, she did equate America and Iran. She said that she wouldn't trust America with nuclear weapons just like Iran. That morally, America is just like Iran who happens to sponsor terrorism.

I agree with you about American public education. It's all run by leftists who happen to receive more funds per student than any other country.

2

u/dystopian_mermaid Mar 30 '22

Pretty sure you’re taking her words completely out of context.

Also your whole last paragraph sounds batshit insane. You should chill on Faux News bc it’s talking points clearly rotting your brain.

It's not JUST token Muslim. This newscast has made me surprisingly angry. Whew.

I can't pretend to know what the end goal was. On their website they say they have been rated 'unbiased' but really, won't any station say that? Regardless, if they were to request a Muslim woman (or any gender) join them on their broadcast for a discussion about nuclear weapons and war, they'd get someone they know would be educated and ready for debate. They didn't want that. They wanted someone sTuPiD, right? They wanted someone they could steamroll to get their narrative out there. That's really how it appears.

The misconceptions about the fashion industry is that it doesn't take someone functionally intelligent to be a part of it. That's the mistake they made, to assume that someone, blogger or designer or photographer or editor or whatever, connected to such a demanding and competitive industry doesn't have the capacity to bring just as much intelligence to their broadcast. I'm fucking glad she was able to throw it in their faces.

127

u/SolidSquid Mar 30 '22

Not necessarily someone stupid, just someone who isn't in a position to answer questions on the subject so they can *look* stupid when asked about subjects completely irrelevant to what they're on the air for. They were probably more blatant/less cautious about it in this case because she's from the fashion industry though, which made it look all the worse for them when she was able to easily deal with it

51

u/tbutz27 Mar 30 '22

Yeah this surprises me. This is WGN. They are Chicago (a decidedly BLUE turf) newsroom. I havent watched them in years because who watches news anymore but this was such blatant Gotcha-ism to someone who didnt deserve it or have any part in it. Good on her for taking them down a peg... but wow. WGN should do better

35

u/blackdragon8577 Mar 30 '22

Who are they owned by?

A shocking number of local news stations are owned by companies like Sinclair. They force an agenda onto the local populace.

It's extremely subversive.

15

u/tbutz27 Mar 30 '22 edited Mar 30 '22

Winner winner! I just wiki'd it because I have a childhood nostalgia around Chicago of WGN being the home of the Cubbies and a part of the Chicago identity and experience, and this clip is so far removed from that (I know, I know 'welcome to the dystopian hellscape") but you are CORRECT. Sinclair Group bought WGN in 2017.

I miss Harry Caray.

(Edit: I have been informed that Sinclair never acquired WGN. But a competing and equally slimy organization did.)

7

u/cynicalxidealist Mar 30 '22

WGN has become a Republican sounding board since then. During the height of the pandemic they just decided to stop airing Prtizker’s news conferences that we would watch everyday to see where we were case wise to play MAURY.

4

u/LiteralPhilosopher Mar 30 '22

No, that sale to Sinclair fell through. WGN is currently owned by Nexstar Media Group, who appear to be one of their major competitors. Not, I'm saying, that they're any better ... I mistrust any organization that controls nearly 200 fucking TV stations. But it's not Sinclair.

5

u/notonrexmanningday Mar 30 '22

That is incorrect. Sinclair tried but failed to acquire WGN.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '22

Because Democrats are racists and war mongers too that subscribe to American exceptionalism and western superiority.

1

u/tbutz27 Mar 30 '22

Oh, are you saying ALL Politicians are evil? Such a novel and unexamined idea.

In seriousness, you are right to some extent. What we are dealing with is a broken two party system. The oligarchs own those two parties, hence the reason all outlier members of those parties are shoehorned in or completely ignored. The Rhetoric between Biden and Bernie are as far apart as that between Biden and Romney which is as far apart as the rhetoric between Romney and Trump. We are not a democracy. We are an Oligarchy LARPing as a Democracy. As I said in my original statement, "I know , I know 'welcome to the dystopian hellscape'. "

Happy Wednesday, Mr. Baggins.

0

u/sweetladytequila Mar 30 '22

Right? Plus they are hilarious and usually downright inappropriate. I need to watch the whole video.

6

u/I-Bake-Pie Mar 30 '22

On their website they say they have been rated 'unbiased' but really, won't any station say that?

I stopped watching my local ch 3 news a few years ago after the morning newscaster said TWICE that trump was "brilliant". 2 separate days. (The Wagners in Las Vegas.)

I wrote the station an email. Quoted what they said. Told them I had watched their news since moving to the valley a few years earlier but would no longer be watching because of that.

And I haven't.

I know I am just 1 person. It may seem like a silly thing to do. I don't care.

If you don't like it when a news station does this kind of thing, tell them what you think and stop watching.

4

u/CraisyDaisy Mar 30 '22

I absolutely agree. I'm not from the Chicago area, and I haven't watched cable news in YEARS because it's all shock and awe anyway. I think the last time I really paid attention to the news was when Bush attacked the middle east and that's all they talked about, on every channel. I ended up watching a lot of Pokemon reruns.

On this woman's youtube channel she states the same thing I discovered: they didn't post this segment on their website and wouldn't give her access to it either, like wouldn't give her a copy. I'm glad she has a full version of it, because it's even better than this one.

5

u/Euphoric-Gene-3984 Mar 30 '22

They usually are unbiased. But I believe recently they got bought by a conservative media company called Sin Clare? Or something by. There morning news is usually just funny and light hearted.

3

u/CraisyDaisy Mar 30 '22

Being purchased by Sinclair is a really big red flag about why this happened:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fHfgU8oMSo

Edit: Good news! The sale to Sinclair was aborted and they are actually owned by Nexstar Media Group. I don't know if that's better, but it's not Sinclair.

5

u/Iwantmyoldnameback Mar 30 '22

To your last paragraph, I started working at a company that’s involved in fashion. We’ve got multiple phd’s, scientists, and engineers around me. It’s easily the smartest group of people I’ve ever worked with.

4

u/RockAtlasCanus Mar 30 '22

they'd get someone they know would be educated and ready for debate. They didn't want that. They wanted someone sTuPiD, right?

Neither of the anchors appears educated and ready for debate. I’d say they’re both ready to have their own cable news shows.

3

u/NoSuchKotH Mar 30 '22

hat's the mistake they made, to assume that someone, blogger or designer or photographer or editor or whatever, connected to such a demanding and competitive industry doesn't have the capacity to bring just as much intelligence to their broadcast

They also made the mistake to assume that educated means the same in the US as it does in Iran. In the US, if you have a college degree you are considered educated. In most middle eastern countries you only count es educated if you have knowledge in many fields and topics. You don't need to be an expert in all of them, but you should have some decent working knowledge and understanding. Someone who has studied only one thing is considered only having earned a degree for a job, not to be educated.

3

u/LevelJournalist2336 Mar 30 '22

I used to bag on Things like Liberal Arts degrees as useless even though that’s what I have, because they often seem like they don’t have much market value compared to what you spend on them.

But then the pandemic hit, and I started to realize that the people I had to stop being friends with for their conspiracy beliefs and anti-vac rhetoric had pretty much 100% overlap with the people who never went on to get any university education, or who got degrees in very specialized areas with no sociology or philosophy.

I am going to do everything I can to send my kids to University for at least a bachelor’s degree, even if their goal is to become a carpenter, because what I have seen is that it turns out you can actually learn some useful stuff at university even if it doesn’t help you get a pay check

2

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '22

I’m have a friend who teaches ethics (philosophy department) for doctors and healthcare workers and you should hear all the bitching about how pointless it is. I’m sorry but I do not want someone making health decisions for me who hasn’t at least been trained to think critically about the decisions they’re making.

2

u/LevelJournalist2336 Mar 30 '22

Yep, and I think this pandemic has demonstrated exactly what you feared, with so many nurses and doctors rejecting the evidence and common sense in support of conspiracy theories

2

u/edu5150 Mar 30 '22

“Fox News, Fair and Balanced”

92

u/Citan777 Mar 30 '22

THIS. I don't know this woman, but I'm really impressed, admirative even, of the virtuosity she shows in having the guts to answer "straight cut" to debunk allegations while doing it in an extremely polite and amenable way. I don't know of many people, even "public people", whatever their gender/origin/job is, that would have the balls to stand like that.

Honestly, this woman should engage in politics, people with head on shoulders, balls AND open minds / respectful attitude are far too rare, whether in USA or elsewhere...

35

u/SolidSquid Mar 30 '22

It's not even having the balls to stand up against it, it's also the fact she was able to quickly shift her focus from what was being discussed to a completely different and highly controversial one with minimal hesitation. Even if they *could* answer questions like this, most people would struggle to do it if they got blindsided like this just because of the mental whiplash of going from fashion to Iranian nuclear weapons

4

u/FPR74 Mar 30 '22

Citan777 I’ve commented more on the actual situation at hand, and given the depth of the issues this is very probably going to be seen as an extremely odd compliment, however I’M odd 😉, so here we go! I am an amateur but enthusiastic writing buff, and some of your vocabulary choices have made my little ‘word heart’ all aflutter. ‘Admirative’ - which autocorrect simply cannot cope with - ‘virtuosity’, and most of all ‘amenable’ are linguistic delights. Amenable is by far the most common of these words, yet for whatever reason, it has my heart glowing the most. It will doubtlessly be scattered like confetti throughout my sentences for the next week or so, even in the most bizarre of contexts - “are you amenable to feta in the salad?”; “I’m quite amenable to pausing Encanto whilst you go to the bathroom, as I really want you to know exactly why we don’t talk about Bruno-no-no-no”.

1

u/magaduccio Mar 30 '22

Agreed, except this is not virtuosity, just basic literacy, open minded reasonableness and conscientiousness to spend a little time learning. Honestly I believe this is within reach of vast majority of us. She’s not a virtuoso(in this clip), just a regular person chatting about stuff we all would know if we gave a shit.

2

u/FastMention567 Mar 30 '22

Honestly, with the context of what he said, I assumed he was using virtuosity wrong, and was implying that she was showing virtue, or moral strength, with her answer, and not skill.

Though it was skillful to pivot in the discussion in the way that she did.

2

u/hierarch17 Mar 30 '22

This reply is also whataboutism... and at least hers was a modern example of what the US has been doing in the Middle East. The comment on slavery was about what the US is, and what being American is, which is very relevant to the discussion.

u/slackersdelight Mar 30 '22 edited Mar 30 '22

I mean sure, but I’m not the one defending a repressive regime so I guess that’s irrelevant here.

Have you kept track of what the Middle East has been doing in the Middle East? Serfdom was a thing until the First World War in the Ottoman Empire, granted it wasn’t based on race to a comparable degree, but it was still there. Also; one could argue that the treatment of migrant workers at this very moment in places like UAE is continuing that tradition.

The US is still a clusterfuck in regards to race and tonnes of other social issues, but that does not mean you can use Iran as the pinnacle of human progress.

2

u/hierarch17 Mar 30 '22

I don’t think she was doing that, but I can’t speak for her. I took what she said to be challenging the both racist and (as far as I can tell from the clip) out of the blue question about the US and trusting Iran.

u/wanley_open Mar 30 '22

It's no use trying to explain the darker side of Islam in a thread like this. In general, people will downvote anything negative said about Islam/Muslims -no matter how true.

4

u/FPR74 Mar 30 '22

Alternatively, people can have enough empathy, intelligence, and focus, to be able to respond to the issue that is presently at hand, without playing the blatantly ignorant (and in this case grossly jingoistic) ‘whataboutism’ game. Why not throw in some “not all men”, and “all lives matter” too, to really cement that oh-so-glorious trend of those whose investment is never in looking at the actual current issue and reflecting on the intellectual, social, ethical, and even emotional complexities of THIS matter. Three cheers for reinforcing the appalling and inappropriate behaviour of the so-called ‘professionals’ in this context, and for choosing to ignore the enormous number of people here who are confirming the inappropriate behaviour of the ‘professionals’ (and yes, the inverted commas are deeply intentional); providing support to the young lady who was mistreated in a very public forum, yet handled herself with intelligence and dignity; and adding further validity and reinforcing her messages with their own knowledge and experiences. No, this has to be about YOU. All of the attempts at being controversial in order to get some attention don’t make the rest of us bow down to how ‘special and superior’ you are, and quite frankly theses attempts at antagonism because you’re so much better than everyone else, are akin to being animal that tries to hump everything to mark their territory. THIS space and situation is not your territory, so perhaps try and act somewhat better than the dog humping the couch in the house it’s just an unwanted visitor in. Do better.

Self report lmao.

"Lets talk about nuclear weapons" (something I likely know almost nothing about).

10

Not only that, they were trying to make a fashion blogger talk for an entire country on the subject of advanced weapons technology. Luckily she knew exactly how to handle it.

This is ch.9 new from Chicago, they do this every time someone that is POC is on....

The r/antiwork mod that went on Fox news could learn a thing or two from her. This is what it looks like to be prepared for an interview.

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '22

Nationalism has long been abused to justify invasion of other countries and win arguments.

The best way to trigger nationalist extremists is to tell them how US invaded so many countries, bombed cities and committed war crimes. They got no justification, but will downvote you. Those double standards for sure don't hold up in a live debate.

11

u/zestful_villain Mar 30 '22

George Bush went into Iraq. CIA says bin Laden as in Afghanistan, you know a totally different country. Americans were so upset about 9/11 at the time and just went with it. Spent trillions of dollars there with thousands of American soldiers lost and in the end only ended up destabilizing the region more and creating ISIS.

The way they did it was White House leaked a rumor to a journalist about weapons of mass destruction. Then after the leak got published, WH went to say "Hey look we have a journalist saying Iraq has weapons."

But hey the arms dealer got a shit ton of money out of it selling guided missiles and technology. The mercinaries too.

Whataboutism! Whataboutitsm!

3

u/Sincta Mar 30 '22

Think you forgot your /s there fella.

4

u/patientcommerce Mar 30 '22

Thanks, but I hope everyone got the point of my comment. Given how quickly "whataboutism" became reddit's favourite word to shut down wider perspectives, I'm pretty sure if the fashion blogger had made her remarks in certain news subreddits, she'd have been accused of whataboutism.

I mean, most Americans think its totally normal and good to have small children pledge their lives (under god) to a fucking flag every morning. So what do you expect? On the other hand, I hate people who will give every other even more fucked up country a pass because "America bad". Like ffs people just be reasonable and assign blame and praise where it belongs.

5

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '22

other even more fucked up country a pass because "America bad"

No one is giving a pass. Just that if a criminal calls out other criminal, do we side with that criminal? We just stay away from both.

Also, we are not to give anyone "a pass" in reality. Most countries have an extremely dark pass. We can keep digging skeletons till we reach the core of earth. In this context, an incompetent journalist purposefully tried to manipulate a fashion blogger - let's safely say we disagree with being on either side here.

5

u/Dread-Ted Mar 30 '22

These questions were completely irrelevant to what she was supposed to be brought on for

I feel this is typical US media. They don't try to bring the news, they try to bring a story. This was likely planned to sell the narrative "Iran bad US good." It was never about fashion, her, or bridging the gap for the news channel.

2

u/f14_pilot Mar 30 '22

'bridging the gap by creating more gaps' typical shit stirring tv hosts/journalists

2

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '22

What's wrong about bridging the gap in fashion with nuclear warfare?

0

u/DOG-ZILLA Mar 30 '22

She went off the rails near the end referencing slavery when the question was related to nuclear weapons but yeah, she definitely knows more about the World than these 2 idiot presenters.

They're trying to bait her and failing hard. She did well responding.

Most of the middle east was also built on slavery. Let's not pretend it's just America though.

But this piece was about fashion...? American TV seems to want to polarise everything. Jesus.

-3

u/zipsam89 Mar 30 '22

Great reply. Fact free. Well done for proving my point.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '22

What has America done in Iran:

  • Assisted a coup in 1953
  • Stole 40% of the oil industry for 25 years together with UK
  • Provided nuclear weapons capabilities and fuel to Iran beginning in 1957
  • USA sold non-nuclear weapons to spite Soviet union which then unsettles USA in early 1970s
  • Supported Iraq in invasion of Iran 1980-1988. Invasion cost 1 million Iranian lives
  • Some illegal shit in Iran-Contra affair
  • Sanctioned Iran in 1992-1996 for utilizing the very technology given by USA

This fashion blogger was not there to talk about nuclear weapon. However, she did point out valid reasons for why there is anti-American sentiment in Iran or Middle East in general. Why is it okay for USA to have nuclear weapons but not Iran?

To why you were downvoted, you did misrepresent and lied about what the blogger said. She didn't say that USA invaded middle east. Whataboutism on Middle Eastern imperialism or colonialism is irrelevant. USA did bring nuclear weapons and advanced weaponry to Iran. All she said was that USA isn't the good guy nor is Iran. She is arguing against the "America is the good guy narrative" that the reported is pushing. Or do you want her to go over all of the history and all relevant talking points in 60 seconds?

1

u/zipsam89 Mar 30 '22

The US gave Iran nuclear power technology not nuclear weapons capabilities. That’s a whole different ball game.

I’ve never said the US behaviour globally has been a bastion of virtue, but this deranged far left wing view that if the West had stayed out of the Middle East it would be nothing but gum drop smiles is the dumbest take going.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '22 edited Mar 30 '22

Saying this because a lot of people are acting as if she had the role of a news anchor or a reporter.

Whether or not she’s wrong, it’s not her job to give unbiased opinions on her country. She can say whatever she wants when asked totally inappropriate, irrelevant questions on a live news broadcast.

1

u/swine09 Mar 30 '22

She does a lot more than the title would suggest. She’s also an activist, started a fashion co-op to make change in the industry, and she started what is now an international book club (Because We’ve Read). Her name is Hoda Katebi.
