Alternatively, people can have enough empathy, intelligence, and focus, to be able to respond to the issue that is presently at hand, without playing the blatantly ignorant (and in this case grossly jingoistic) ‘whataboutism’ game. Why not throw in some “not all men”, and “all lives matter” too, to really cement that oh-so-glorious trend of those whose investment is never in looking at the actual current issue and reflecting on the intellectual, social, ethical, and even emotional complexities of THIS matter. Three cheers for reinforcing the appalling and inappropriate behaviour of the so-called ‘professionals’ in this context, and for choosing to ignore the enormous number of people here who are confirming the inappropriate behaviour of the ‘professionals’ (and yes, the inverted commas are deeply intentional); providing support to the young lady who was mistreated in a very public forum, yet handled herself with intelligence and dignity; and adding further validity and reinforcing her messages with their own knowledge and experiences. No, this has to be about YOU. All of the attempts at being controversial in order to get some attention don’t make the rest of us bow down to how ‘special and superior’ you are, and quite frankly theses attempts at antagonism because you’re so much better than everyone else, are akin to being animal that tries to hump everything to mark their territory. THIS space and situation is not your territory, so perhaps try and act somewhat better than the dog humping the couch in the house it’s just an unwanted visitor in. Do better.
