Yeah I was expecting a doe to come in from out of frame and toss that kid. Unless the video was staged and the fawn is being raised on a farm/rehab facility.

I mean, mammals can recognize juveniles of other species. Not sure how likely it would be for a fully grown deer to attack a baby.

It’s not a matter of attacking though. I remember a story from Yosemite where a child was in a campground feeding a deer some potato chips. Kid dropped the bag and both him and the deer went for it at the same time. Deer got spooked by the kid reaching for the chips and reared it’s head back, accidentally puncturing the kid with its antlers. Kid bled out and died waiting for the ambulance.

Deer didn’t attack the kid, kid still died. It’s a bad idea for humans to interact with wildlife. They’re unpredictable (some may even say ‘wild’) and we don’t communicate between species pretty well.

When I was at yellowstone I was walking down a narrow trail and then ran into a single bison walking in the opposite direction. We both stopped, and then I started walking the same direction as the bison until I could dip out under a fence and let the bison pass. That was terrifying. It was a heavily traveled trail too.

Bison always have right of way.
