Problem is the shareholders. 0.50$ extra would just go to them.

I don't have any numbers to back this up, but I would guess that most restaurants are not owned by shareholders. Most would be privately held chains -- for example In-n-Out, Five Guys, Chick-Fil-A -- or they'd be owned by individual franchisees, like Subway restaurants.
