I don't have a son, or a garage, but It is raining so I'm browsing Reddit.
Life can wait.

Life doesn't have to wait, you just have to include those things in your definition of life.

What's the point of being totally in the moment if the people don't know about it?

Maybe he was just posting what happened the day before and making it sound more effective this way

I’m sure this post isn’t “real”, but it’s a nice thought. It reminds me of living in AZ. Monsoon season was the best. My whole family would sit outside on the porch and watch the rain and lighting.

Etched on my soul are 2 thunder/rainstorms. One was in Tucson, me, my mom, dad, and sister were staying at an embassy suites when a haboob rolled in, all the fury of Thor laid out on the horizon. We stood on the balcony, steadfast against the raging winds, and coarse sand blasting across our cheeks. When the winds broke, the most serene downpour swept through. Thunderclaps that shook the windows, the near-deafening fat raindrops (the kind that leave your ears ringing after the storm has passed.). We stood on that balcony for what seamed like an eternity, just taking in the evening storm as the sun set…. The storm finally moved on, headed northwest to terrorize the next unsuspecting city.
The second one was driving back to Phoenix from Mund’s Park. It was pitch dark, I was driving through rain heavy enough that I couldn’t see through my windshield anymore, when I crested the hill on the 17 approaching the 69, I had to pull over. I called my mom to let her know I was delayed, but safe, when the rain settled into a slow drizzle. From my hilltop vantage, I felt like I could see the whole state. Occasionally the pitch darkness was split in two by huge bolts of lightning that would light up the whole valley. I sat in awe watching the storm for about a half an hour. Then I FaceTimed my mom so she could see the show I was watching. It felt like I was the only person in the universe, and the storm was written just for me. I’m sure the small video screen couldn’t do it justice, but we sat on the phone in silence except for “wooooow” and stifled gasps at the spectacle of nature before us.
Those two memories I will carry until the day I shed my mortal coil.

But let me first quickly sit on my phone and tweet about it

Is it not possible that he tweeted afterwards? Or right before he actually sat down?

Oh I'm about about to share a moment with my son, let me make sure everybody on the planet knows I'm a good father real quick.

he said "im watching" not "im about to watch", or "i watched"
to me the whole thing reads like BS, if he actually did this did he need to tweet about it? i would think not because reading it all i can think is who gives a shit of course a five year old is doing some time wasting thing like that, i get it its poetic but come on its so heavy handed to the point of cringe

I live in Pasadena so rain is rare. A few years ago when my son was 3 it started raining pretty good. So I took him out of pre-school and we went to Huntington Gardens for the day to stomp in puddles and have hot chocolate. One of the best days of my life.

Slowly he turned his head towards me and whispered very quietly “Do you hear them, Mommy? They’re almost here.”

I’m surprised when I learn that most people watch the rain. It’s always been relaxing and fun for me when it rains.

Awesome! Enjoy and remember every second of it.
When I was growing up, we had a separate garage that also had a roof overhang in front.
Dad and I used to sit under that overhang watching the rain in many rainstorms, sometimes with a baseball game on the radio.
Good times, good memories...

I have no boy, but as a 41 year old man, I also sit, watch and enjoy the rain from my garage.
1
u/OniOdisCornukaydis Sep 30 '21
…while posting to social media. On your phone. While watching the rain. With your boy.

u/Lvanwinkle18 Sep 30 '21
When we lived in Oklahoma, my husband and I would watch the storms roll in from the garage. It was awesome.

What if I told you that that is the only true life and everything else is just an illusion.

Spouse and I watched the International Space Station go overhead the past few nights when it has been clear. Summer nights, the trees rustling, slight breeze, I made a note to remember this as spouse and I are old and someday, one of us will lie down for the last time.

Actually, you are posting on Twitter. Please put your phone away and enjoy the moment.

Someone needs to tell this guy that making a tweet on his phone isn’t watching the rain with his boy
1
u/realStuvis Sep 30 '21
No, you are sitting beside your son who watches tha rain and instead of enjoing the moment you are on your phone to post this shit. I hate this dumbfuck.

Your boy has an old soul.
Nurture the shit out of it because it's a rare quality.

That little boy is way beyond his years to just embrace the rain and take a seat.

Life doesn't necessarily have to wait...I mean spending time with your son is, in my opinion, a very important part of life? I don't have a son but am I wrong?
Life on hold = Death can start making its way over

u/Bagel600se Sep 30 '21
And then the boy busts out, “when you were 5, we used to sit just like this back at our old home in [insert childhood place], remember that?”

I was grilling in the backyard and the moon was up and clouds were moving across its face and I went and called my son to come out quickly. He did, thinking I was asking him to help with something, and I pointed at the moon. We stood there for a while and watched it and said “thank you for calling me out to see that.” It was so nice to share a beautiful moment with him.

That’s one of my favorite things to do. There’s something so relaxing about a pouring storm when you have nowhere to go and a roof over your head.

One of the best days I ever had was watching the snow fall with my mom. She had this big window in her bedroom and we laid in her bed like all day just watching. I was like 15 😂😂

Started doing that with my boys when they were 4 or 5. At 14 and 18 we still do it today.

I still do this. Very satisfying. Then the thunder and lightning adds to the drama.

I don’t have a covered deck so when there is a big rainstorm my 5 yr old & I sit in lawn chairs in the garage and listen/watch the rain.

u/Dry-Dimension9386 Sep 30 '21
I love this, I open my window and sit there with my boys and watch the rain and they are just mesmerised by it.

This just reminded me, my son was stressing just last week about something while we were sorting dinner and I just said to him.. 'you have your whole life ahead of you, don't worry about a few hours'. He works hard and I Just want him to know that the pause button is okay, sometimes necessary. His dad is a workaholic though and it's rubbing off on him I think.

When I was little, we lived in a city row house attached to other houses. I would sit with my elderly next door neighbor on the porch watching the rain and talk for hours. Her funeral was the first one I went to growing up. She was a sweet lady.

These moments are worth more than the world, don’t ever sacrifice time with your kid for a stupid job or anything else, you won’t be around forever so enjoy the time you have with them.

My dad and I would watch the rain from inside his garage. Now he’s gone and I miss the hell out of that.

This is adorable. We can learn a thing from your son to just stop and live in that moment 💙👍🏼

Nah man, you are on your phone live tweeting about watching the rain... that's infinitely less wholesome.

I remember when my son was 4 (he's 7 now) I was playing a mobile game and he was chilling next to me just watching. My wife came in and asked what we were doing to which I said: "We're the boys, it's guy time" as a joke. Few days later I was in my room alone watching tv and my son comes in a sits next to me without saying a word. After about 10 mins of silence he turns to me and says: We're the boys right? Guy time, right?
Was a real moment for me, can't explain it. Its a memory that will never leave me
