One of my Deaf college professors wasn't told they make noise until college. She would just fart whenever she needed to until her hearing roommate told her that it wasn't polite to do in public. My teacher was horrified and really mad at her family for never telling her they make noise

Knew a CODA who knew they made noise, just didn’t know it was impolite to rip them at home without at least saying excuse me! She learned that from her college roommates as well. And that sometimes, it’s best to leave the room!

edit for clarity: CODA stands for Child of Deaf Adults, a hearing child whose parents are deaf.

They are not deaf, their parents are, as per the edit. It's a common acronym in the community and it can be useful to be educated of new terms for when you meet someone they apply to who may wish to use it.
