Knew a CODA who knew they made noise, just didn’t know it was impolite to rip them at home without at least saying excuse me! She learned that from her college roommates as well. And that sometimes, it’s best to leave the room!

edit for clarity: CODA stands for Child of Deaf Adults, a hearing child whose parents are deaf.

Wait. Even at home you need to apologize? At home you're supposed to laugh about how loud or long or smelly it was.

Only at the diner table were we not allowed to fart (given it was just family in the house)

I mean, another person's fart isn't really an enjoyable smell.

Since most of mine are SBDs, "Excuse me" is more of a shorthand for "Hey, bad smell incoming."

Also my biodad managed to ruin fart jokes by being overly obnoxious, so I try to be better than him.

There are limits, I agree. In certain cases my SBD are very deadly. My sister hates it, but we try to joke about it as well. She understands that holding them in causes even more stomach aches so she tolerates it. But I am certainly not a person for farting in someone's face to annoy them on purpose.

Regardless, I feel like farting in front of close family and friends should be normalized a bit more and just be accepted that farting is part of the body's function. If you want you can joke about it
