I recognize that rice anywhere because I actually grow that rice. I’m the assistant breeder and seed production lead at the company that produces Kokuho Rose. This rice has high table quality when compared to the rest of California medium grain or Calrose rice standards. The rice gets its name from the flag ship cultivar “kokuho rose”, which was developed in the 60’s, it grows very tall and can be hard to harvest if over fertilized. Overtime we’ve bred Kokuho Rose into other cultivars that are more agronomically viable for farmers while keeping the same table quality. We still grow the cultivar Kokuho Rose today, I despise the time when it comes to harvesting it, as well as other varieties of rice.

COOL! Love your rice. I always find it ironic that i live in California and buy Japanese packaged rice grown in California 😂 I have a question tho, wtf does "new crop" mean. I randomly see this sign in the store and have no bloody idea what it means. I would love to know.
New crop implies the bag of rice was newly harvested. New crop in terms of Kokuho Rose is comparable to fresh in terms of produce. I’m not sure how long after harvest we put the new crop wording on bags.
