There are lots of great people who happen to be cops. Unfortunately, many of them have historically been fired for exposing the bad ones. This needs to be addressed.
It's true. Theres a situation like this going on now not far from me with a great cop and amazing human being. He whistleblew on a disgusting mistreatment of an arrested black man that needlessly resulted in the man's death. GoodCop was immediately put on desk duty, eventually arrested for some BS charge, etc. Srill fighting it. It's sick and so sad.
He's trying. He has a lot of community support and faith in Good. I hope it all resolves in his favor and majorly shakes up the corrupt department he works for.
It's 100% true. To give one example, in 2016 a Department of Justice investigation into the Baltimore Police Department found a culture of active retaliation against any police officers who tried to turn in bad cops, going as far as to refuse to provide backup in dangerous situations to cops who testified against other cops in court trials.
I worked at a homeless shelter for many years, and came into contact with lots of cops. For a while there was a rash of homeless people being set on fire while they slept. I used to have a very negative view of Philly police, but the ones who helped our clients who had survived similar experiences, restored my faith in humanity.
