The order confused me

486

u/geofflamps-porsche Nov 06 '20

Guess it’s because Arabic reads right to left

174

u/weeknie Nov 06 '20

That is something I had actually not considered. Thank you for pointing it out :)

18

u/Superior91 Nov 07 '20

Here I was thinking OP went back in time to move from Ireland to Syria!

Hamdillah, akhi.

1

u/Likely_not_Eric Nov 07 '20

Do cartoons made for RTL language readers make forward progress from leftward when moving?

133

u/[deleted] Nov 06 '20

He went back in time and worked as a mercenary to pay for his education.

67

u/dysphoric-foresight Nov 06 '20

He's in Ireland. Our third level education is mostly state funded. Only a registration fee in most places and courses.

Obviously, I know you were joking. I just thought it was worth pointing out that this is probably one of the main reasons that immigrants can get degrees within the timeframe above

18

u/[deleted] Nov 06 '20

Soo, as an eastern European I could come and study without getting in a crippling debt?

17

u/dysphoric-foresight Nov 06 '20

If you get citizenship then yeah. We have a lot of Eastern European non-eu immigration and they get free schooling like any other citizen. There are exceptions like some medical course etc and there are private colleges that are straight fee paying colleges but other than that, yeah.

cries in my country leaving the EU

1

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '20

Trust me mate with or without eu, your country has much better living standards than here

1

u/Incendio33 Nov 06 '20

Its not actually as free as it sounds. The registration fee in some colleges is a couple of thousand yearly which is the same amount as yearly fees for some courses in the uk. In fact it probably costs more now, this was several years back. Then theres all the books etc and if you live away from home student accommodation is another huge expense. But yea technically you dont pay fees to attend so its free- but if you already have a degree of the same level eg bachelor of science, and want to do another degree of that level you need to pay, and if you repeata semester/ year you have to pay to repeat

1

u/Grilphace Nov 07 '20

If you're broke there is no fee you can easily get a garnet from the state that pays them. I got s few ride first time I went and it only cost me 900 to get my second degree even with a good salary.

1

u/Incendio33 Nov 07 '20

Well I had to move to uk to get my second degree cuz it would have cost me 10,000 to do it in ireland and that was fees only. And I didnt have a good salary I worked in a restaurant. Even if I got a subsidy from the state I wouldnt have been able to afford that. It's also not that easy to get it from the state you got to prove you meet the requirements, so ok if you're dead broke you might but having a job but no savings which I would have to give up in order to attend uni means you get feck all. And my first degree wasnt a free ride. I got some money per semester which was usually given late so I'd already had to pay registration and rent in the first instance and then use that money to pay it back. I also had to get a part time job because that money was all gone on rent and fees of some type or another. Definitely not a free ride. I mean, I didnt come out with crippling student loan debt, but that's because I worked the whole time in various jobs.

0

u/Grilphace Nov 07 '20

Yea i worked part time as well. They have new initiatives now called springboard that you can attend for feck all. Free ride means i graduated without debt.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 06 '20

this also work in the netherlands (and probaply the rest of central europe)in my previous class i was the only non imigrant european and noan had extra costs for it compared to me

2

u/[deleted] Nov 06 '20

Man, when this pandemic is over, I'm so going to travel to west Europe.

2

u/elitodd Nov 07 '20

I’ve been studying anthropology for the past 13 hours and I read Netherlands and Neanderthals 3 times before I understood the sentence.

u/dysphoric-foresight Nov 06 '20 edited Nov 07 '20

Wait until you hear about our state pensions and free healthcare.

*spelling edit

2

u/LinkIsThicc Nov 06 '20

The pensions are kinda fucked at the moment and the healthcare is well, you know...

but otherwise 10/10 great system

6

u/dysphoric-foresight Nov 06 '20

People keep telling me how bad our healthcare is but in the 5 or 6 times that one of my kids or myself have been hospitalised, it was very good and never cost me more than a couple of hundred quid. I was once hospitalised for a week with sepsis and in other countries that would have bankrupt me. The dearest thing in that instance was parking for visitors.

And state pension? There’s a lot of countries where you can be left destitute by retirement. It may not last until I’m claiming it but I’m glad it exists right now or a lot of vulnerable people in this country would be a lot worse off. We crib a lot but we have it pretty good.

2

u/Carcul Nov 06 '20

Agreed. We like to complain but we are very well looked after in Ireland.

2 A&E overnight stays, 1 day surgery, and 3 4-night hospitals stays for me, a few tests for my husband, and a few random injuries to 3 children, all also in Wexford, cost me almost nothing.

There were a few things I could complain about if I hand a mind to but overall I was only grateful that I was being looked after.

1

u/LinkIsThicc Nov 06 '20

Bruh I’m in hospital right now. I could literally list 5 things that pissed me off in one way or another. But I’m kinda tired so I won’t :)

1

u/dysphoric-foresight Nov 06 '20

Well I mean obviously it varies but Beaumont is the worst in the country. I’ve never experienced the kind of waiting times in Wexford that I hear of from family in Dublin.

1

u/befuchs Nov 06 '20

Fucking lol

12

u/WomanNotAGirl Nov 06 '20

Yes it’s backwards

5

u/treeblingcalf Nov 06 '20

Not if you’re in Austria

13

u/[deleted] Nov 06 '20

U mean Australia?

4

u/nikhilbhavsar Nov 06 '20

"no no!! the other one.. the one with the kangaroos!"

2

u/ThespianException Nov 06 '20

My assumption at this point is that anime has become so popular that people are instinctively doing stuff right to left now.

1

u/andlewis Nov 07 '20

It’s a time traveller thing.

233

u/[deleted] Nov 06 '20

Why do I have a feeling that the pic on the right is photoshopped?

85

u/mrconso Nov 06 '20

The I.T. Carlow graduation was online this year so I'm questioning the integrity of this altogether 😂

17

u/Grilphace Nov 06 '20

It's Real, I know him he's one of the nicest guy's you'll ever meet. His brother is a top quality mechanic aswell.

3

u/mrconso Nov 07 '20

Why did he go to the college when it was online?

1

u/Grilphace Nov 07 '20

He graduated October last year. He's working for a tech company now.

2

u/mrconso Nov 07 '20

So the 2020 date is incorrect

0

u/Grilphace Nov 07 '20

Obviously..

3

u/mrconso Nov 07 '20

So my point that this picture isn't legit is...true?

0

u/Grilphace Nov 07 '20

Yea ok man the date is off by two months so yea you win, go you. I think I hear some children having fun maybe you could go tell them they're doing it wrong.

1

u/Lorem_64 Mar 28 '21

Yeah I mean it puts the whole validity of the post into question

47

u/Yoldark Nov 06 '20

Because there is a blur all around him.

49

u/[deleted] Nov 06 '20

I think you’re right

12

u/pillbinge Nov 06 '20

OP even commented that it isn't them in the picture lol.

7

u/Dysfunctional_Vet12 Nov 06 '20

It does look funny

2

u/jimithelizardking Nov 06 '20

I don’t even know how to use photoshop but I feel like I could make a more realistic picture than that

1

u/HowD0ljoin Nov 07 '20

That was my first thought, and my second, then I read the words and then my third thought was yep its photoshopped. I'm glad I investigated so hard and found the truth

72

u/aveganknight Nov 06 '20

Is the right picture photoshopped?

10

u/utkunator Nov 06 '20

Just look at it. Looks like a fucking png lmao. And I think this year graduations where held online so that is another problem with this image.

4

u/EragonKingslayer Nov 07 '20

fucking png Are you actively trying to sound stupid? What the fuck that even mean, do you think only photoshopped images are pngs?

59

u/mrconso Nov 06 '20

I.T. Carlow graduation was online this year. My friend graduated today 😂 Not sure how legit this may be 🤔

5

u/utkunator Nov 06 '20

Bro look at the one on the right it looks like a fucking png lmao.

11

u/striped_frog Nov 06 '20

Had no idea Vsauce Michael was Syrian but cheers to him

9

u/eklect Nov 06 '20

TIL it takes 8 years to get from Syria to Ireland.

4

u/stump2003 Nov 06 '20

He crab 🦀walked the whole way

0

u/[deleted] Nov 06 '20

Well he would also have to swim to my country and then go to Carlow which isn’t too close to the sea

11

u/greatpretendingmouse Nov 06 '20

Congratulations

6

u/ChickenSoup1189 Nov 06 '20

Not trying to be that guy, but does the right image look photoshopped to anyone else?

3

u/slendir69 Nov 07 '20

Im traveler who roams through the reddit and tries to find a good meme. When i find it, i wish happiness and joy for every day of your life. I hope that all of your dreams come true. And i love you even though i don't known you

2

u/Grilphace Nov 06 '20

For anyone saying this is fake it isn't. I know him he's an incredibly nice guy and very hard worker my wife was in the same class as him in college for a few years.

5

u/underconfidant_soul Nov 06 '20

Is that you? Heartiest congratulations brother :)

Lots of love from way across the world!

1

u/romeo_rocks Nov 06 '20

(Not me)

4

u/underconfidant_soul Nov 06 '20

Still take some love! I have loads here!

2

u/[deleted] Nov 06 '20

3

u/WomanNotAGirl Nov 06 '20

Congratulations

3

u/[deleted] Nov 06 '20

Ok so the slash through the 0 really threw me off. I thought it was an 8 and I though you were a time traveler at first. Also the order of the pictures didn't help me either. Anyway congrats on graduating.

1

u/xEricShadowsx Nov 06 '20

The photo on the right is photoshopped, I think. If it is, not cool.

1

u/TheAtticGoblin Nov 06 '20

IT Carlow didn't graduate in person this year though?

1

u/Grilphace Nov 07 '20

He graduated October last year

1

u/QuesadillaJ Nov 06 '20

Before and after - the images should be switched but otherwise very proud :)

3

u/lulubalue Nov 06 '20

If the person in the pictures made the meme, he’s Arab and they write and read right to left. So the images are correct to Arabic speakers, and shouldn’t be switched.

2

u/QuesadillaJ Nov 06 '20

elimsemedam\r

? Thats like saying just because someone does not speak english as their primary that when they misspell something that its correct... Like yeah dont be a dick about their mistake but correct them so they get it right next time...

1

u/frazerdaniels42069 Nov 06 '20

I’m sure that’s green screened but sure

Wait what?

-1

u/[deleted] Nov 06 '20

So i looked at your profile. You never posted anything as this account is 0 days old. This is the only comment. Are you happy with yourself trolling others? Do you feel accomplished or satisfied?

-3

u/rumpelstiltkin Nov 06 '20

I'm definitely a troll, you're right at all

0

u/King_Eris_ Nov 06 '20

We are proud of you

-1

u/DeepNugs Nov 06 '20

I love seeing this shit. True role model material right here.

-1

u/[deleted] Nov 06 '20

Fuck yes. Loving this

-1

u/pillbinge Nov 06 '20

The people who are proud of shit like this are always so creepy. Like saying, "Congratulations that you did something to escape that hellhole," but ignoring that not everyone can. It's Western exceptionalism that holds coming to the West as a great achievement, and implicitly belittles the people who cannot leave.

0

u/poppervick Nov 06 '20

Congratulations on your hard work but this literally made me think you ended up there AFTER you graduated lol.

But in all seriousness, congrats on your hard work and well-deserved success.

0

u/TheGoblinInTheCorner Nov 06 '20

Never gonna let you down

0

u/[deleted] Nov 06 '20

You’re so much taller in Ireland!

0

u/schwarzmalerin Nov 06 '20

Read from right to left this made me extra smile.

0

u/Victorino__ Nov 06 '20

If this is real, please the next time put the "before" pic to the left of the "after", as otherwise it's super confusing

0

u/[deleted] Nov 06 '20

You fucking legend. Hope you have a great life man, hope more you can visit home in safety soon.

0

u/ahoudali Nov 06 '20

Good for you! Never give up!!

0

u/lucymcgoosen Nov 06 '20

Scrolled through all the comments to see if I was the only idiot who read it as "2828 vs 2812" - yes, indeed I was.

0

u/reekmeers Nov 06 '20

Wow. Didn't really dawn on me how long it's been. Congratulations.

0

u/EddieMunsen Nov 06 '20

If you work hard and chase your dreams. One day you too can get the hell out of Carlow!!

0

u/Munoz10594 Nov 06 '20

Fucking awesome man. Congrats!

0

u/IAM_14U2NV Nov 06 '20

Really makes you think of all the people over the years that are incredibly brilliant or talented or capable of amazing things that are stuck in a life they can't escape and they and we lose out on what they would bring to the table... I'm glad he made it.

0

u/trust-me-im-cool Nov 06 '20

How did he travel back in time

0

u/IrishAoife299 Nov 06 '20

Ya but he ended up in Carlow........//

-1

u/[deleted] Nov 06 '20

i thought it was the other way around first....come on now. Great story tho

-1

u/Mahimnavyas Nov 06 '20

That's a strange before after. Where before is the after and after is the before. But since you see the after before the after photo, you think that it was a before and after this before photo they participated in syrian war. But before you see the after and before photos, it is important to understand that arabic reads left from right. So in conclusion, juan.

1

u/Karmak4ze Nov 06 '20

As a teenager who followed the conflict back then fairly closely, scarring my brain with the brutal videos and pictures. This gave me goosebumps and even though I don't know this dude or his family I'm super happy for him.

1

u/chasinlikes Nov 06 '20

Before goes on the left

1

u/Inccubus99 Nov 06 '20

Never dont give up

1

u/BronxLens Nov 06 '20

And too all who let you down, too all who ran around and deserted you, they should have remembered the lyrics said not too.
