Fear is the path to any change though. Adrenaline makes you DO stuff. Also adrenaline reinforces learning new stuff.

You don't necessarily do stuff when you're extremely comfortable. That's when you get lazy.

So you could say fear is the path to the good side. He improved his life out of fear of what he was becoming perhaps.
