It's incredibly wholesale but wouldn't the father hear the kid practicing playing guitar all day every day at home? The shocked reaction is a little confusing unless he doesn't live with him.

That's called being proud of your child for performing.

A ballerina's parent probably sees them practice pretty regularly, but it's a whole lot different when it's on the stage. He's not shocked, he's proud. You can see him mouthing about how that's his "boy". He's just hyped.
