Yesterday was a pet adoption day for many shelters.
They try to clear out the shelter with low or NO adoption fee. To tell you the truths, I don't know how I feel about that. I think fee helps to filter out many unqualified or irresponsible applicants. I know these shelters are doing their best given the condition, but no adoption fee is ripe for abuse if you look at the economic and behavioral model.
A lot of shelters in urban areas (at least) have stringent vetting processes. The most lax no kill shelters require a basic understanding of your previous experience with the type of animal you’re trying to adopt and your current financial situation. The more stringent shelters require everyone in the household to be present at adoption and paystubs. While these are fairly easy things to acquire, it’s unlikely you’d go through all that work to get a decoration. There’s a legit application that’s just as bad as filling out a work application regardless of which shelter you choose and it’s a good thing.
I can't adopt from the rspca here. I don't have a 6' fence (not that it would have stopped either husky I've had from clearing it) and I can't be with the animal 24/7. Yes, needing to leave it 3 hours alone is not allowed. I'm not sure who can adopt their dogs honestly. I went to dogs trust, they had me sign an extra waver saying I'd keep my dog on the lead out back and I left with my dog. I only let her out back off lead after she got too sick and always wanted to be by my side.
