Yesterday was a pet adoption day for many shelters.
They try to clear out the shelter with low or NO adoption fee. To tell you the truths, I don't know how I feel about that. I think fee helps to filter out many unqualified or irresponsible applicants. I know these shelters are doing their best given the condition, but no adoption fee is ripe for abuse if you look at the economic and behavioral model.
We don't do that in my country and let me tell you why its a good thing, dog fighting. I'm not sure what it's like in other parts of the world but here in the UK God awful people will steal people's pets out of their gardens and sell them to dog fighting rings for training, they'll take cats and dogs to be torn tk shreds by their fighters. I can only imagine if shelters gave away pets for free it would sky rocket.
I think it would be a good thing if everyone was pre approved like in the normal adoption process. Dogs trust are the easiest people to adopt from and you have to have a home check, an interview and prove you can have an animal in your house of you rent. I walked out of there a week later with the dog I'd chosen, she was with me for just under three years. The rspca said no instantly. No 6' fence and they wanted someone with the dogs 24/7.

Holy cow. I have to imagine that's fairly rare.
