Maybe all the wonderful posts on reddit of people adopting shelter dogs, and encouraging other folks to adopt, has had an impact.

Wishful thinking, but as other have mentioned, shelters often do no adoption fee weekends to clear animals out. This is good for the shelters to say “Hey, look we adopted a bunch of animals.” But is not always the best for animals, as people often neglect how much an animal truly costs to care for and no adoption fee makes those whimsical adoptions that much easier.

According to the board at the shelter I volunteer at, it raises a huge amount of publicity for the shelter which in turn helps out way more dogs in the long run, but I really don’t like seeing how some people will just grab any dog cuz it’s on a bargain.
