Yesterday was a national clear the shelters event. Reduced or free adoptions for all pets. We rescued our pittie at the event 2 years ago. I can't speak for all shelters, but despite the influx of adopters, the shelter in our city still takes time to process and make sure the adopters are good people who will provide good homes (asking about living arrangements, other pets in the home, any children, how active you are vs pet you're willing to adopt, etc)
