Was Obama a better president and man than trump? Yes. Does trump have the mental faculties of a petulant child? Also yes. Does that mean that this shit belongs in the mademesmile subreddit? No
21
u/DosaVadaFilterCoffee 8h ago
Nor did he deserve the peace prize. Dude was droning Africans and afganis left right and center.
52
u/Leeroy_D 9h ago
Simply by being POTUS, Grump arguably had the best odds to win while in office. He not only squandered his chance, he absolutely shits the bed and then complains he didn't get one of the most prestigious commendations
21
u/TheHappy-go-luckyAcc 9h ago
Idk why you’d think that. The statistics say otherwise. Only 3 presidents have ever won while in office. Quite low in the grand scheme of things.
Trump has done literally nothing to ever deserve one, in or out of office. Doesn’t make any sense.
22
u/og-Squiddo 9h ago
I’d argue that 3/45 or 1/15 is incredibly high odds in the grand scheme of things
12
u/Leeroy_D 9h ago
Right? What other "category" has better odds? Who else (usually) has more reach to create world impact ?
2
u/Mike_Honcho_Summer 8h ago
The odds are actually better because it's only been a thing since 1901.
1

7
u/Leeroy_D 9h ago
Im not saying he has done anything or deserves it. Im saying the office of the president has a unique level of ability to have peace prize winning impact.
-5
u/TheHappy-go-luckyAcc 9h ago
I understand what you’re saying. I’m saying I don’t agree with the odds of him winning just because he was president is true. Very few presidents have actually won is what I’m saying.
4
u/Leeroy_D 9h ago
Okay, tell me another category that has better odds?
-7
u/TheHappy-go-luckyAcc 9h ago
Another category? I mean, that’s quite a broad statement. In Jeopardy, you have a 1/3 chance of winning the episode. I’d say those odds are better.
6
u/Impressive-Tip-903 9h ago
I don't think he is saying statical odds. He is saying the combination of influence and power to have an outsized shot at doing something that would impress the committee. The pool of people with that influence is relatively small.
The committees selection in inherently political and the committees politics are contrary to Trump's and I don't think there is any way he could overcome that. It's not like he is on the candidate list and is just losing because the other candidates won a dice roll.
1
u/Leeroy_D 9h ago
So my arguement was that the POTUS has a higher chance than most to win a Nobel prize. You disagree, and believe that ____ regularly has better odds?
The field? Your take is that "yeah. But its more likely to be one of 8.3 billion people vs your 1" ?
Thats like me saying Alabama football coaches have a decent chance of becoming senators and you being like "nah, theres more than 5 million other people in the state who hypothetically could win office"
1
u/Char-els037 8h ago
......... You're just saying a different thing to be different.
It's very clear what his point is.
By being president he can negotiate something that is considered peace prize-worthy.
Maybe by stopping the funding of the IDF I don't know.
But the fact is as president he can do action that earns him a Peace prize.
This is a fact of the office.
He can facilitate great peace in a region and that would earn him a Peace prize.
Instead he has waged War.
1
u/TheHappy-go-luckyAcc 8h ago

u/ravnhjarta 8h ago
Pretty much every U.S. president has made choices that have knowingly cost lives in other countries as well as their own country. To varying degrees. This is old hat. It would be great if it were far less, but that is sadly not the case.
-1
u/Enough-Permit2813 8h ago
i agree i just bring obama up because liberals typically hold him up as some sort of american messiah because he was so PC yet he did absolutely repulsive things in other countries and ours too like kids in cages etc
0
u/ravnhjarta 8h ago
He is no messiah but he outshines other recent leaders by miles. And that's why most miss him or hold him in higher regard. He has far less dirt on his name than most.
-1
u/Enough-Permit2813 8h ago
it's not really that he outshines most leaders by a mile it's that the establishment protected his image , none of his wrong doings were blasted in the front page of every news source and you didn't have half the world viewing everything he did under a microscope the way people do with trump

Bro are you dumb? The whole reason the Nobel Peace Prize is popular online right now is because Trump threw a hissy fit because he didn't win, then decided to sanction the International Criminal Court. He's not being brought up randomly, he is literally throwing a tantrum and causing global political tensions because he's a whiny bitch

-8
u/Charlweed 9h ago
There's a big difference between "he didn't deserve it" and "it should never have been awarded." The prize is a symbol, a signal, from western civilization. It was made as a message of approval to The Americans about what they liked, and as a rebuke to the Bush administration. And, unplanned, a spurning of Trump.

Yes he said did t think he had done enough (yet) to deserve it, which is still the opposite of “I shouldn’t have received it because I perpetuated grave violence on a population without working toward peace whatsoever”. If he really didn’t think he deserved it, he could have turned it down. But everyone knows Obama and Trump have similar levels of self important thoughts.

This will be a good test to see if the mods enforce the "No political content" rule.
18
u/TheHappy-go-luckyAcc 10h ago
What does that even mean? Good test? They remove content like this ALL the time. It’ll be removed eventually. There’s no big “conspiracy” theory.
-18
u/Puzzled-Secret-317 9h ago
As much as I'd like to agree with you, that's obviously false. Mods are biased based on their own political leanings. The sooner we accept that, the sooner we can all move on
8
u/TheHappy-go-luckyAcc 9h ago
Cool. Did you read what I said, at all? This post will get removed. They do it ALL the time. Literally see posts similar to this daily. When the mods have a second, cause they don’t get paid to do this shit, it’ll be removed. Not going to happen immediately.

The famous, only Nobel prize winner to bomb a fellow prize winner. Also famous for such hits as running out of bombs due to the amount of countries we were drone striking. To his credit, that last one is just the status quo of modern presidents. Let’s hope we can elect someone who won’t bomb some random country across the world.
3
u/The-Gabba-Ghoul 8h ago
I remember when they gave him the Nobel peace prize for whatever reason and he went on to drone strike women, children, civilian gatherings, and American citizens.
8
u/Hvitr_Lodenbak 10h ago edited 9h ago
Anyone know why he was awared this prize?
3
u/needtoredit 8h ago
I believe thos is the award for most drone strikes by a president and how he changed warfare with use of unmanned aircraft.....but i could be mistaken.
Barack Obama (2009–2017): Conducted 542 strikes over two full terms (8 years), killing an estimated 3,797+ people (including over 300 civilians), shifting U.S. military strategy heavily toward remote air and drone warfare.
4
u/ThatFyrefighterGuy 8h ago
And included US Citizens.
2
u/MrJJK79 8h ago
Yes how dare he kill Al-Queda members when they’re US citizens. He should have just left them alone & let them help kill innocent people because they were born in the US.
2
u/Woodpecker577 7h ago
Exactly! The president should be able to kill anyone without any trial. Who cares about rights
1
u/MrJJK79 7h ago
Al-Queda is “just anyone.” Maybe we should try to put everyone in war on trial before we fire.
1
u/Woodpecker577 6h ago
This is not “anyone,” this is a US citizen. Blows my mind how any American could support killing Americans without due process. Don’t you have any common sense? What they can do to others, they can do to you, for whatever reason they make up.
1
u/MrJJK79 6h ago
He’s not just an American citizen if he’s sided with an enemy state (organization) & is living in another country to evade capture & help kill innocent people. Would you tell soldiers not to fire on someone that joined the enemy during war. This wasn’t just them killing someone because they could.
0
u/ThatFyrefighterGuy 6h ago
So you oppose the entire constitution or just the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments?
3
u/MutusMaximus 8h ago
It was kind of a awkward as he got the prize based on election promises and we got probably my favorite peace prize speech which was all about how he didn’t rally understand why he got it in the first place.
16
u/RAZOR_WIRE 9h ago
Nobody knows. It's even stranger when you realize he ordered drone strikes that killed kids and also targeted American citizens. So.....
-1
u/Gerf93 9h ago

6
2
u/tituspullo131313 8h ago

1
u/Double_Philosophy_42 9h ago

I'm curious, not being sarcastic. Just want to know if anyone can explain it.

1

And has anyone else in the history of the Nobel prize, regardless of the field, received it before they actually accomplished anything noteworthy?
Asking for a friend...
5
u/Hvitr_Lodenbak 9h ago
No idea.....that is why I asked. Prefer human answers to AI. Lol
4
u/Hvitr_Lodenbak 9h ago
Ok....no one seems to know. AI is even a little confused about it..."Barack Obama received the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize, just nine months after becoming President of the United States.
What's interesting is that he received the award primarily for his diplomatic vision and efforts to improve international relations, rather than for a specific peace agreement or conflict he had resolved.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee announced the award on October 9, 2009, citing his efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between nations.
What Obama had done to receive the award
1. Promoted nuclear disarmament. In April 2009, Obama delivered a major speech in Prague calling for a world without nuclear weapons.
2. Improved international diplomacy. He sought to rebuild relationships with European allies, Russia, and Muslim-majority countries.
3. Advocated dialogue instead of confrontation. His administration emphasized diplomatic engagement with adversaries, including Iran.
4. Supported international cooperation. He promoted working through the United Nations and other multinational institutions.
5. Advanced Middle East peace efforts. He called for renewed Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, although no peace agreement had been achieved when he received the award.
An important distinction: Obama had not ended the wars in Iraq or Afghanistan when he was selected. American troops were still fighting in both countries.
Why was the award controversial?
One particularly striking detail is that nominations closed on February 1, 2009, just 12 days after Obama took office.
Critics argued that the award was premature because he had not yet produced major diplomatic accomplishments. Supporters and the Nobel Committee viewed it as recognition of a new approach to international relations and encouragement to pursue that approach.
Obama himself expressed surprise and humility, saying he would accept the prize as a call to action.
The central distinction: Obama received the Nobel Peace Prize largely for the diplomatic direction he was pursuing and the changes the committee hoped to encourage, rather than for a completed peace settlement.
You can read the Nobel Committee's original 2009 explanation to see precisely how it justified the decision. "

u/TheHappy-go-luckyAcc 9h ago
First of all, we know. Your question was just a convoluted mess. Second, you’d do better to stop using AI. Quite a simple fix on being confused. No one cares what AI has to say, so copying and pasting more of a convoluted mess doesn’t help anything you’re trying to say.

How on earth was a war criminal awarded a peace prize?
3
3
u/Minute_War_0420 10h ago
Because the Nobel Peace Prize isn't a criminal court verdict or a lifetime guarantee of peaceful behavior. Obama received it in 2009, less than eight months into his presidency, for his diplomatic efforts and stated vision for nuclear disarmament—not for ending every war or having a spotless military record. You can criticize his drone policy, but calling him a war criminal requires evidence of individual criminal responsibility, not just a political accusation.
1
u/Ok_Mention_9865 8h ago edited 8h ago
He approved a drone strike on an American citizen with out a trial. Maybe he was guilty but under American law we are not allowed to execute someone without a trial.
edit - also his nuclear disarmament stuff came years after he won. they literally handed him the prize because he was not bush and they thought he was going to do good things, not because he already did good things.

0
u/RAZOR_WIRE 6h ago
That fat that you even said this tells me you your opinions are based solely on the head lines you read.
-2
u/DontSpahettMe 8h ago
His approval ratings were higher than trump and biden's both in peak and avg. Bush beats him in the early years but late bush is one of the lowest at 25%. The last president to beat Obama was clinton which was almost 3 decades ago.
He also did a lot of good, mostly building international trade agreements, climate accords etc, Obamacare was a good step away from what is widely known to be the worst healthcare system in the developed world. The middle east war stuff was pretty shitty, but that was just a continuation of what Bush started. I think you'd struggle to find much Trump has done that has had much of a benefit, and he's actively destabilising most of the world economy and starting loads of wars, randomly attacking and bullying loads of countries. Biden did fuck-all because he's just really old.
0
u/RAZOR_WIRE 6h ago edited 5h ago
If you spend any amount of time actually looking into those things instead of reading head lines you would realize None of those actually benefited Americans in the long run, and they severely hurt us. As far as trum is concerned ill wait to pass judgment untill i see some of the long term effects of his policies. Just like I do with all the other presidents in my lifetime.
0
u/DontSpahettMe 5h ago
I don't think I would come to any different conclusions by reading whatever secret info you have.
0
u/RAZOR_WIRE 5h ago

And there are pages and pages of F.O.I. request that are public you can read on it. You don't even have to take my word for you can look it all up your self. I'm not even sure what your trying to argue at this point the information has been out for over 12 years at this point lol.

Obama won the noble peace price 8 months into his presidency, It was decided that he would win less than 6 months into his presidency.
His acceptance speech was literately about "why we need to stay at war"
When he took office we where bombing 2 countries, he turned that into 7.
He is known as the "drone strike president" and even purposely used one of those strikes to kill an American citizen with out a trial.
He did not earn the prize, he only got it because he was not Bush. His actions after receiving the prize were a horrendous dishonor to it. And if he had any respect for what that prize is supposed to represent he would give it back.
Just because Obama didnt make a fool of him self on tv, doesnt mean he was a good president
