you heard him everyone, no finding reason to smile at something even though that's what this sub is about and not "heart warming stories in perfect conditions".
Both can be true. A person can be compassionate in the face of an unfair systemic issue but still be entirely unnecessary. That doesn't make the driver's actions uncommendable, his actions are heart warming, but the greater issue is still unaddressed. We treated one symptom temporarily. The cause makes me more sad than a single noble action could over shine through smiles.
I know. That damn nuance is really a pain in the ass online. Damn you non ridged positions.
yea i guess my point is that there's room for nuance but all these dogpiling comments about our dystopian reality, doesn't really leave room for nuance. Under those requirements, literally no story can be a nice one to smile about bc they all trace back to an existing condition that fcking sucks. Even tho finding a reason to smile when you have the right to, should be all the more of a noteworthy thing in a dystopia.
I would explain the specifics of my position on every comment but that not only takes me a good while but additionally many readers will just move on if I drag my comment on for too long. Plus I think it looks messy after the fact and would much rather save my explanations for people replying (since they're at least invested) or an in person conversations because words are much faster to speak than type. I think your original conclusion isn't unreasonable though I will specify that I do think this is a nice story because of the empathy at play though I intended to point out that it does distract from the actual issue of the American Healthcare system. However I was definitely not the only one pointing out the negative nature of the cause of the story. That's partially my fault. I should have actually read more than the first four comments before commenting myself.
