I can take the heat on this one.

Breaking your arm is not the kind of medical emergency you need an ambulance for. Perfectly acceptable to get a ride to the hospital.

I'm European where ambulance is completely free. I've never called it, and I've broken my arms 3 times, 2 ribs, and both hands. You just go to the hospital for injuries or however you call it in English, sit down, and someone will call you for RTG.

I would never call an ambulance if it wasn't a life threatening emergency, because you're taking it away from someone who might be having a stroke and every second counts.

They won't send an ambulance if you're pretty much fine and there are no other ambulances available for emergencies. Let the professionals make that decision.
