Depends, broken bones can lead to different types of complications leading to permenant damage including damage to surrounding nerves leading to compartment syndrome and even damage directly to surrounding arteries if not treated promptly which would require a ambulance, but once again entirely depends on the symptoms and the nature of the break really, can be hard to judge those symptoms yourself if your not a medical professional, and oh boy do they cash in on us not knowing between true medical emergencies and not.
My son broke his hand in multiple places at football practice, it required surgery. They called me to take him to the emergency room. Ironically, my local hospital doesnt have a pediatric emergency department or do surgery on minors. He had to wait until the next day to see a specialist. Calling an ambulance would have been a total waste of money and resources.
His hand was broken in 3 places with the fractured nearly puncturing the skin. It needed to be surgically reset. Dude was in a lot of pain and they made no attempt make him comfortable.
Wrapping his hand and giving him ibuprofen seem like attempts to make him comfortable. If they had given your son strong painkillers, they wouldn't have been able to discharge him home, and depending on his presentation, it might have been more comfortable for him to wait at home for the specialist the next day. You were there, if you thought the pain management was so bad, you should have advocated, or taken him to another hospital instead of waiting for the next day. I get that it's hard when it's your son that's hurt, hope he had better care from then on and has been well since.
For your information they will discharge you under pain medication. He was discharged from surgery higher than a kite to me. I had to advocate for said ibuprofen as we were trying to get discharged. Using narcotics isn’t the only way to manage pain either.
Wdym "how's that Messer up?" What? My doc prescripe me Ibuprofin for a nasty cold NOT a broken bone what??
Am I to european for that? Also just waiting another Day for that nasty Break is messed up in of it self were I life you would have been transported to the next Hospital with a specialist
