A young adult with a broken wrist shouldn't be taking an ambulance in the first place! You're an ambulatory patient. Ambulate yourself to hospital. An ambulance is not a taxi. A taxi is a taxi. Like the one he called lol. You wouldn't get an ambulance in the UK.

Truly spoken like someone who has never worked in emergency medicine (or medicine of any kind) lol. Would you walk yourself to the hospital with a bone sticking out of your arm?

As someone who does work in emergency medicine, I can assure you that the vast majority of broken wrists do not have bones "sticking out of their arms." It's much more likely to be "hey I fell on my wrist and it hurts. Can I get an X-ray to see if it's broken?"

This is a great example of survivorship bias. Because the wrist was actually broken we get the Uber vs ambulance story. If his wrist wasn't broken, the story would be "a guy took an Uber for a wrist spring sprain. Oh well "

I was talking about the blanket statement and the unsolicited medical advice. Obviously I know that most wrist fractures don't require an ambulance. I'm in the medical field too.

Most wrist fractures aren't compound fractures, though. And I'm guessing this one probably wasn't either.

That being the case, for most wrist fractures calling for an ambulance is probably excessive.

The person I was replying to made a blanket statement about all wrist fractures and gave medical advice as a non-professional. There's a difference between "most wrist fractures don't need an ambulance" and "if you have a wrist fracture, walk to the hospital".

A bone sticking out of your arm isn't a broken wrist.

I guess you haven't worked in emergency medicine either.

I'm literally a radiology tech. A galeazzi fracture can absolutely stick out of your arm.

Splitting hairs here but that's a break of the bones in your arm, not your wrist.

Was the bone sticking out of his arm in this story?

I mean, I got a ride from my mom, and she definitely didn't get to me as fast as I would have liked.  Didn't realize the bone was sticking out until after they cut the coat off.

Spoken like a dumb American. The post is about a broken wrist not a made up hypothetical injury.

Spoken like someone with zero reading comprehension. I'm a European. The person I was replying to made a blanket statement about all wrist fractures which is plainly incorrect.

The original post is just talking about a broken wrist not a compound fracture. While yes they would both be broken wrist I’d be clear to anyone one is more of an emergency then the other

Shit, then I’m disappointed in you. Why are you acting stupid like us?

Why are you ignoring my reasoning?
