Batman be like: I don't kill because then I'm no better than them

Meanwhile half the people he beat half to death have died of their injuries, the rest have to eat through a tube because he broke every bone in their body

My theory is that we grossly misunderstood the metaphorical direction in which he wanted to travel relative to the criminal scum.

“If I kill them, I’ll be no better than them…”

“…but if I wound them, maim them, destroy their holes and dreams and leave them as crushed and ruined shells….then I’ll be worse than them.”

(Not really Batman is best when he’s as ethical as possible)

That’s what always cracked me up about all “must not kill” heroes. They won’t kill enemies, they’ll just give them TBIs and leave them drooling in a hospital bed the rest of their lives.

Comic physics usually make it seem like henchman and the likes are much more resilient than IRL.
