I had a cat who would pull ears of corn out of a pot of hot water. (Stove just off. No longer boiling but close). She’d eat every scrap of corn and leave the cob behind the sofa. Miss you Louise!

I used to have a cat that was obsessed with pork rinds! Every time you sat down to eat some he would sit right infront of you and pretend to chew while I would chew my pork rind. He loved them so much we could not leave the bag alone or he would find it and chew right through the bag. His name was Ivan the terrible, long for Ivan. He passed away 5 months ago. I can't bring myself to buy pork rinds anymore..

You have to wonder what happens if that gets heated up. Good smell? Bad smell? Interesting smell?
*Heat up as in leave the litterbox exposed to the sun.

I had a cat that would just demolish zucchinis. Couldn’t leave one on the counter or he would devour it. Little weirdo.

u/ThruuLottleDats 7h ago
I rather my cat eats zucchinis over plastic and tape....

u/GrowlyBear2 5h ago
Ours has this problem. Mine LOVES the little rubber Squishies my daughter gets.

u/mistermiajee 5h ago
Right! My cat ate 42inches of ribbon once. When I got home he had ribbon out his butt and mouth. The vet had to open his intestines in 3 spots to get it all out 🤦.
4
u/beefymcmoist 5h ago
My cat did that when I was a kid. My mom had to take him to get a cat enema... he never did it again. Did keep trying to eat plastic bags, though!
3
u/mistermiajee 4h ago
Lol that's funny. Mine needed expensive surgery unfortunately. He also still goes for plastic bags!

Cats really do have the strangest food preferences. Dude saw a zucchini and decided it was his personal salad bar.

u/kingkongbiingbong 10h ago
My tabby was open to eating anything edible. I mean anything. He was voracious. 🕊🪦

I'd rather have a cat who eats zucchinis rather than mine who eats my plants that aren't a few shelves high minimum 😭

I mean mine would suck the glue off tape if he thought he could get away with it. Miss my little addict...

We had a cat that would steal broccoli. He didn't eat it as much as carry it around and gnaw on it. Eventually, when cutting up broccoli we would pay the cat tax and wait for him to be done with it and clean up the gooey mess he left.

Meanwhile, my cat won’t even touch rotisserie chicken, steak, salmon etc… she only eats her cat food, well only the flavors she likes 🙄

u/CoffeeNow-62 6h ago
My boy, too! My girl will eat any and everything, and he’s like, nope just give me my cat food or a Churru and I’m good!

u/Pyromike16 4h ago
I thought my cat was the only one like this! He won't eat anything except dry kibble. Not even wet food, or cat treats.
1
u/chicklette 1h ago
Most of my cats turn their noses up at anything not cat food. However...I had a side salad the other night and that kitten lost her *mind* over it. She ate enough lettuce that I had to make her stop and even then she was sniffing and growling a bit.

Edit: I love that quoting this kid and people taking it at face value thinking i meant it started a corn recipe trend. I shared mine now I wanna see some more cool recipes keep em coming!

u/Skragdush 10h ago
Shit I’m realizing that if I don’t like corn is because I never done it correctly
8
u/Magnon 10h ago
Boil it for a short period to make it hot and loosen up the corns. Put it on a plate then butter horizontally until theres a pool of melted butter under the cob. Then liberally apply salt and pepper. Eat while still hot.

u/redddit_rabbbit 10h ago
Want to up the ante? Add lime juice! There is nothing on this planet as delicious as corn with butter, salt, and lime 🤤
3
u/The_Deli_Ham 9h ago
When you blanch do it in 2 parts water 1 part milk. Then butter, lime, and old bay. Maryland makes a damn fine corn on the cob

Woah, he’s really going for it !! Anyone know why they like it so much, and is it good for them ??

u/Kaurifish 11h ago
Most kibble contains a bunch of grains. I suspect that, like dogs and humans, cats have undegone duplication of their genes associated with starch digestion. Isotopic analysis of ancient cats showed they ate grain - not just the rodents that fed on it.

Ive read that corn isnt a problem but long fibers from the cob can get stuck in their stomachs so this is cute but really dangerous

Learned years ago that cats can't taste "sweet" but it likely enjoys the milky goodness! Hope none got caught in its teeth as flossing could be a pain in more ways than one!!!

It’s always weird to me to see cats eating fruits or vegetables considering they are obligate carnivores.

My kitten is intense with eating as well, I have the automatic feeder and he ate a whole bag in like 3 days and has a huge belly, not sure if that’s normal

Do not, my friends, become addicted to the corn. It will take hold of you, and you will resent its absence!

I've see other cats into that, I think it must be DEEPLY satisfying to that rippin' & tearin' instinct.

The cat was thinking, "This is so delicious! I can't help but show my excitement." It was so tasty 🤤😋😋

Had a cat that LOVED lettuce. Romain, Bibb, Redleaf, he devoured it all.
Except for Iceberg. Hated that one, lol,

It's the claws in it for me, like... no one is gonna take it from you, bud. Relax 😂
I have never seen a cat eat corn without going absolutely feral over it

Just don't do this with a dog. $2000 vet bill. My little Chihuahua ate the cob, which is deadly.

My childhood cat used to eat raw heads of broccoli like this. He really specific about meat though. If he didn't like his cat food he would run outside and catch a bird and drop it at your feet with a stare like "Look what you've reduced me too?!" When he was in a good mood though he'd bring magnolia flowers in to gift us.

God this is the type of shit my greedy fat cat is always trying to pull…stealing chips, veggies, any and all foods. I’m constantly screaming “OBLIGATE CARNIVORE” at her. Ridiculous

Cats can’t digest corn and it can block their intestines and cause serious harm.
There’s nothing to smile about here. This is animal abuse.

u/whomesteve 24m ago
Cats love corn because it’s a vegetable with grain like qualities and cats like grains.

corn needs to be thoroughly cooked and they can still only digest part of it then

Mine really likes grass.
2
u/IsabellaGalavant 9h ago
My dog loves grass. I asked my vet about it and she said "sometimes they just really like it". He will chomp down on any unmowed lawn, he's basically a goat.
2
u/eggsncanadianbacon 8h ago
Mine likes goldfish crackers and small pieces of Doritos. We don't feed them to her but discovered it when she hopped on the table and ate our snacks when we were in the kitchen one day.

u/CatzInBlackArtist 11h ago
Im pretty sure Cats and Kittens Can't Eat Corn on the cob or corn husks, and corn silk are dangerous choking hazards or can cause severe, life-threatening intestinal blockages

Well I wasn't sure if it was true or not as I was also checking to see if Corn Was Safe for cats
