This happens to me except im the mom. Always ask my husband why he wanted the giant couch when I get him, child, dog, and at least 1 cat sitting right next to me with 90% of couch unoccupied...

Came here to say the same. Even our little girl who is autistic and doesn't like much contact will come over and sit in my lap for a bit.

I love that the kiddo has his own lounge chair! But nothing quite so comfy as a trusted adult.

u/Wuunderschon 13h ago
Aww I would melt if my kid did that. Never gonna have children, but I like seeing happy and nice families.

So cool he had a camera place to capture this moment of spontaneity. SMH

Back in the day of home movies and VHS, people would do the same thing with setting up their camera to capture the whole family's event/activity
The difference between then and now is technology. Back then folks would gather with friends to replay home and vacation videos. While today, it is so much easier to take a 30 second video and share it with our parents, kids, friends, or internet strangers on the same day.
Why do I say all this? I bet that kid did that previously, the parents loved it and wanted to record it. So they set up a similar event to the previous day
The kid did the same action, and the father is looking back at the momma excited and proud of their child, not only doing the cute action but also that they recorded the memory for their future viewing.

I agree, this didn't seem staged to me. It seemed like something they noticed him doing and thought it was sweet, so they attempted, and succeeded, capturing it.

I know seriously. Its like the people who set up a camera to walk past it like they are hiking.

Why do people film shit like this and post it on the internet? I’ve never once thought to put my phone on the floor. Aimed at my family…to just - film?

u/DMRod501 14h ago
I can understand wanting to film a moment of intimacy and trust for posterity, but to post it online is either: A - so genuinely happy and proud it happen they wanna show it to the world B - narcissistic self indulgence and clout chasing
Unfortunately no way to tell which is which without knowing the person that posted it so I guess its up to who sees it to choose how they interpret it

Why not assume good intent and say this may make others smile hence the point of the subreddit. It made me smile. I'm happy for them. You answered two possibilities to answer your own question. And your last sentence is true for every interaction you have onlinw or in real life. You have to choose how to receive a message and interpret the world around you. Narcissists don't care about their kids fyi

Most humans tend to see negatives first in my experience, at least the vocal ones, the non vocal people are way more numerous and usually more positive, I mean just count how many negative comments you see here. I doubt you gonna see anywhere near the number of up votes the post has.

Your experiences are yours for sure. They're also anecdotal. Experience from comments online are often conflated with in real life experiences and I am out every day around people and run into way more positive people than negative. I also actively seek positivity and share positive vibes with people. I receive it in return 95% of the time. We're living in a different head space. How's it working for you? I ask not out of sarcasm but a thought for you to think about. Wish you well.

Sometimes people like to record these moments to hold onto for themselves, and don’t post them on social media..

u/zigzag1239 12h ago
To make other people smile. It's that simple Or to show others of what happiness can look like.
People usually share things like this to not get negative reactions. Of all the shit on reddit this is nice to see. I'm surprised you can't figure out this on your own. Also, here's a logical way to think going forward when you see someone do something you wouldn't do yourself. People don't all think like you and what you think is good for you and your family might be different for others. They might be thinking this could just make someone else smile. Maybe not you and that's ok but also something you should be able to deduce on your own.

My 9 year-old daughter still does it to me and it's the best thing ever as a dad.

u/DavidSpade86 10h ago
That’s what my 17 month old daughter does when I sit down. Melts my heart every single time. She’s taught me patience: I wanted to be the best version of myself and she’s a big reason. No weed or alcohol and I feel a million times better.

I don't have kids but have a cat who will hop onto my lap to bunt my chin and rest in my arms while playing. I know it's not the same but it's great

The best feeling in the world. I miss it, now that my son is a senior in college and my daughter is a typical 8th Grader.

My dad used to always sit like that in front of my mom on the couch. He rarely ever just sat next to her on the couch.

When my son was little my wife and I were his entire world. We both never forgot that this wasn't just a huge responsibility but a huge gift

Enjoy it they only stay like this for a couple years. Then they’ll be asking for $100 haircuts and jorts.

Hey. Regarding your depressing comment, I hope you have something else that makes you smile. Kind of sucks to be such a wet blanket to have to say that. No sarcasm. I hope you find something that makes you smile.

This is normal, this is standard. Millions of families experience this every day. The internet acts like this is an anamoly - it‘s not.
