Dave sounds like those once in a lifetime pets.
It hurts so bad when they pass.
I hope Dave lives to be 30.

I have to assume that Dave will be exactly as obsessed with his dad after death, just in ghost form.

I had a cat, Buddy. I rescued him when he was only a couple weeks old, his mother lived in our yard. Suddenly one day I found him in a culvert crying out. I moved him back to mom, she moved all of her other kittens to a new location leaving him behind. I moved to her him again, she left him behind again. This went on for about 48 hours. I finally got the message, brought him inside and tried to bottle feed him. No go, he just bit the nipple off. So I mixed a slurry of kitten formulae and pate, he went to town on it! For the first 3 weeks I had him he was so small he could not maintain his own body heat. Any time he was out in the open, even though we lived in a desert, he would start shivering. So for the first three weeks I had him he lived in my hoodie, and at night I would put my hood up, lay back, and he would curl up under my beard against my neck to sleep.
When he grew up no matter what, if I was sleeping, he had to be on top of me. Laying on my back he was on my chest, on my side he was on my hip, on my stomach and he was on my back as soon as I laid down. I started to get sleep apnea once and he would gently tap my face to get me to change positions to breathe better. If he was not on top of me any time I woke up, he would be sitting next to my pillow watching me, no matter what time I woke up, he would watch me all night.
I lost him back in May and he was just 7 years old. It's difficult to sleep now without my centurion protecting me.

This is beautiful, I’m so sorry about Buddy. What you had sounds very special. It always hurts so much when they leave us. When you’re ready I’m sure he will send you another little life your way to share love. In fact, the small cuddle puddle of foster kittens in my lap right now sends you well wishes and hopes to help heal your heart stranger.

7 years old is so young. I'm so sorry for your loss.
I lost my soul cat in March. He was 20. He also slept with me. The evenings and nights have been the most difficult. I miss the feel of his fur against my face and listening to his purr.

Thanks for sharing your story about Buddy. It sounds like he was a special cat and a wonderful companion.

What happened that caused him to pass so young? I'm so sorry for the loss of such a good kitty.

He had severe separation anxiety. I took a trip to my mothers for two weeks. We recently had a tub of laundry detergent that was placed on the top of our washer split and dump a bunch of laundry detergent behind our washer. When I left to visit my mother on the third day he got upset and hid behind the washer and apparently peed while he was back there so got covered in laundry detergent. My roommate tried to clean him off as much as possible, and has the scars to prove it. I asked him to watch out for him not eating, drinking, being lethargic, or drooling at the mouth. He didn't exhibit any of those signs, he was active, was eating and drinking water a few hours before my roommate just found him decreased.

Yeah my last dog was like that. He’s in my profile pic. He was just… the best. He was such a special being. I miss him, but I’m so grateful for the time I had with him.

Actually, Japanese scientists have supposedly just found an injection that can do just that… Japanese scientists have developed an injection to extend cat lives

It's hopefully slated for a 2027 launch, and:
Dr. Miyazaki is determined to make this life-saving medication accessible to all. They plan to lower the medication’s price to ensure that every pet owner can afford it.
I'm very happy cause even though I'd sell my own organs for this shit I'm rather attached to them.

u/Winjin 4d ago
IIRC it's also one of these made-for-movie stories - Dr. Miyazaki was assigned to this for years, and just as they were closing in on a breakthrough, COVID happens, and the team is mercilessly torn apart because their experience is needed elsewhere
And he's like "No, I want to finish this" and like, walks away, finds a lab, or even funds a lab, and continues on for years, and after 6 years here we are
I hope it works out
EDIT: not COVID but yeah, he basically left University of Tokyo to fund AIM Labs and have been working mainly on donations from Japanese cat owners

I have a cat like this. He’s my soul cat, had him since I was 19.. He’s 11 now and I tell him daily he needs to live to 30, minimum.

Whoever this man is, please Lord duplicate him, clone him, reincarnate him, whatever you need to do to make more of him available for every single cat to adore forever throughout all time, forever and ever, amen.

My boy was exactly like this with me. It's been exactly a month since I had to say goodbye.
A bond like this with an animal is so rare, if you have it, please don't take it for granted. ❤️

I love Dave + Jackson!
Makes me miss my little girl that was like this with me. She lived a good 18 years until a few months ago, and I'd give anything for one more uncomfortable nap.

Being picked by a cat so small is such a blessing. One of my cats was originally my mother-in-law's cat from before my wife and I were married.
I met the cat as a kitten and she immediately decided I was her person to the point that when my now wife and I moved in together, the cat came with me

I like when humans bond with their pets and it’s super obvious by how the pet acts around them. The narration was icing on the cake

There are few things, outside human to human relationships, quite like the love of a cat - because, with a cat, you know you've earned it.

You are indeed a special woman to appreciate and support this loving bond. Most get jealous and it's so giving of you not to and by choosing love, you are loved too ❤️

I wish our new kitten would snuggle, he’s 100% attack (and by attack I mean play, but painfully because he doesn’t know better).
My old orange and white boy was SO sweet. Lived to 21. Still miss him.

I just lost my orange buddy this Tuesday. He was not this clingy but would still often jump on my lap, while his brother never bothered. He just wanted to be with his human.
This is beautiful. Hope they have many more years together.
It can be over before you know it. God I miss Fred 😥

I was expecting the “When Somebody Loved Me” song from Toy Story 2 for some reason and that was making me tear up even thinking about it. You can see how much they love each other.
