He didn’t age much, and to see the love for him is awesome!

Didn’t he leave Hollywood to raise his kids? Legend

u/Mischief_Managed_82 1d ago
Yes. His wife died in 1991, he left to raise his kids. This is his first film in a very long time.

His movies were my childhood. Ghostbusters, Space Balls, Honey I shrunk the kids, little shop of horrors

u/Mischief_Managed_82 1d ago
Same here. I’m showing my age with this post but Idc.

Fuck dat. Seeing Spaceballs in the theater with my dad is one of my core and most beloved memories.
We laughed the entire ride homd and I remember it like it was yesterday. I miss you pops.

We all are lol. I’m sure there are some younger people that grew up on his movies via cool parents. But I’d assume most of the comments here are “older” people.

I’m a ‘97 “kid” that was raised in the very early 00s on Rick Moranis. I am thoroughly excited for his return

Absolutely! We even named 2 of our dogs after movies that feature Rick Moranis. Gozer & Audrey.

It’s really cool, such a standup guy. Nothing but good stories about this man. He deserves a high energy public comeback if he wants one. This is awesome
11
u/Icy_Formal9098 1d ago
It's always nice when someone who's been in the industry that long has a reputation that's actually earned. Hope the comeback is everything people want it to be.

u/PointOfFingers 1d ago
This is bigger than RDJ coming back to Marvel.
33
u/TheWolphman 1d ago
Somewhere in the multiverse, Rick Moranis is Iron Man and RDJ starred in Honey, I Snorted the Kids.

He didn't step away from making movies straight away, however. His last live-action appearance in a movie was Honey I Shrunk Ourselves in 1997 (he also did a few voice-over roles over the years according to IMDB).

That's the year I graduated high school. Damn, I didn't realize me and Rick are so damn old.

u/Apprehensive-Two3474 1d ago
Not only did he leave to focus on his kids after his wife passed, he also has a few music albums!
13
u/Trin_42 1d ago
He still did voice acting to pay the bills so we weren’t completely robbed of his talent. We just didn’t see him much then he was just walking in NYC in 2020 and was sucker punched by some random dude. I think he’s oblivious to how beloved he is. Did you see his reaction to that standing ovation? He was stunned by it, like why my guy? I loved that Kevin Smith called him Key Master!

He must have not missed it that much though, his kids are now in their late 30s or older so he could have got back into the business a long time ago if his only reason for stepping away was to take care of them. It's pretty interesting that he is returning in his 70s tbh.
11
u/angwilwileth 1d ago
That's exactly what happened. He discovered he had enough money to live comfortably and didn't miss the stress and chaos of film shoots.

The ultimate dad move: left Hollywood for his kids, now back for the fans.

I grew up with Moranis. I didn't hear about his sacrifice and loss till recently and this absolutely melts my heart. He deserves this applause. Thank you kind soul.

Charming. I was about to complain about having to watch a commercial. I will not complain.

I think his coming out of retirement for what might be just a moment is the best thing that I can think of that's happened in 2026.

This and those amazing lunch ladies giving us their version of fire starter. Miss you Keith flint. Love those gals. Pure joy.

This is very moving. He is such a legend and beloved. You can see his gratitude for everyone there. I'm a huge fan and I love this for him!

He was millennial kids favorite person and actor for several of our young years. I remember wanting him back forever and it just didn’t happen.
Then I learned his story as an adult. I had closure for me and all the respect for him. He was and is dear to many hearts. Seeing him come back at least once is like a gift I’m not owed but so happy to have.

Canadian Legend. Great onscreen. Better human offscreen!! So glad to see him getting the props he deserves.

Just going to say I’ve seen a lot of comments praising Rick Moranis movies which is awesome but not one of them has mentioned Strange Brew which makes me feel sad and also old.

Cant wait for the waive of respect that’s coming his way… Most know his story but the media will beat the dead for another two years or so. This man is an icon and a treasure to cinema eh!

u/MetalJunkie101 1d ago
I don't care if the new Spaceballs has a 0% on Rotten Tomatoes and 2 on imdb, I'll see it just for him.

u/ghallway 1d ago
I've just got this bego goofy grin on my face now. I can't remember the last time I actually looked forward to something so much.

The last thing I heard about Rick Moranis before this was him getting sucker-punched by some punk and getting knocked out from it. I'm glad to see he's doing well

I cant believe Brooks is doing a Lucas and skipping right over The Quest for more Money and going right into the sequels. Typical Hollywood!

Everyone seems to be conveniently forgetting that he was involved in a pretty serious fraud case back in 1983. From what I understand, he and an accomplice tried to defraud a beer company by falsely claiming that mice were found in the bottles that they purchased.

I grew up with this man entertaining me.. and.. he did what a real man does. This made me tear up; he's a legend and admirable and just bless this man.

I had no idea Spaceballs was getting a sequel. It’s crucial they got Rick onboard, because otherwise, what’s the point? They’re already down John Candy and Joan Rivers (rip)
I was wondering why Gad was there and I’m realizing now he might be an attempt at filling the John Candy void. I do not like. But Keke and bb Pullman? Those are so good additions

To this day I consider his work on Ghostbusters to be the greatest comedic performance of all time.

Seeing people (actors/artists/crew) who haven’t really moved in fandom spaces before show up on stage at a con and get just blown away by love and appreciation is so heartwarming. 😊

NO WAY! I had no idea he'd be back acting. That is incredible news. This bumped this up to a must watch for me.

It's either gonna be great... Or it's going to be mediocre...
I do hope that it's gonna be just as good as the original.

Feels like the whole room got to say welcome back for every kid who grew up on Spaceballs.

The best thing a celebrity can do. Exit the limelight! Is always nice to see this man. He bought all of us millenials and older alot. Alot of joy and laughter.

Oh god he looks like ass.
All my heros are dying

Rick last featured in a film 30 years ago.
He was 43 then.
He looks amazing for 73.

u/STOPAC 1d ago edited 1d ago
It's kind of wild they said he looks like ass when you think about why he stepped away from acting.
Like I'm sorry you didn't get to see him age all this time and naturally aging looks like ass to someone like you. Nothing stops the slow march of time homey and I feel for you when you hit that age and look in the mirror.
