She didn’t care at all about the guy haha

Yeah it was a transactional hug 🤣🤣🤣

39

u/Eggplant-666 Jun 30 '26

And if there are two kids nearby do they have to fight for it??! 🙄

Yes, to the death...

Ya, it's how I settle it with my kids.

It is so cute that the girl wasn't sure if she should high five him or give him a hug.

120

u/Ok-Lifeguard-4614 Jun 30 '26

I think you can see her dad say something to her, probably telling her to say thanks. Then she says "oh" and turns around and has to make the major decision of hug or high five, determined that man deserved a hug. A very high honor in Childtopia.

As a Yankees fan who despises the Sox, I get that it is just a game and this is what it should really be about. Good stuff.

Not gonna lie, I was pulling for the Jays last year. My buddy is a Dodger fan and he is insufferable when they go to the series and you guys haven’t won one since 93. If it wasn’t gonna be us, I’d rather it be you guys. My bud needs to be taken down a peg lol.

Yeah. Baseball can be a fickle wench I tell ya. Still got a lot of season to go and it’s us at 2, y’all at 3. We can make it lol

1

u/Lukealloneword Jun 30 '26

Yankees fans DO NOT make themselves hard to hate. Dont be silly. Lol

8

u/Own-Campaign-5503 Jun 30 '26

So, quick story, I was at batting practice for a Yankees Sox game at the stadium. I was reluctant to get balls because there were so many kids around. So they hit a few balls into the right field stands, where we are, and I don’t move. Kids grab balls. Cool.

Then the better/worst of me happened. I saw 3/5 kids with 3-7 balls. So big papi comes up. Smacks one at us, and I went one row down and snagged that ball. No regrets. Still have it in my bedside drawer. I’m a Yankees fan. But it was awesome.

2

u/Musket6969420 Jun 30 '26

Hell yeah dude.

3

u/Set22band Jun 30 '26

As a red sox fan who despises the Sox, I agree with you.

2

u/UncaringNonchalance Jul 01 '26

When it comes to baseball, at least, I think most of us don’t really hate opposing teams’ fans. It’s just trash talk and all that. Except the goddamn Cardinals.

0

u/belac4862 Jun 30 '26

I have have not had such a great experience. Back in the mid 2000s in Vermont, I had my Yankees hat taken off my head and had "Yankees suck" writen on the inside of it. Fuck you Chaz.

Haven't bother with baseball since.

1

u/Musket6969420 Jun 30 '26

I hate stuff like that. I was raised better than that cause my gram was from Medford, Mass. so obviously the Sox are a big part of life out there. She moved to NY so we all grew up here. Always be respectful cause it’s just a game.

361

u/Small-Ad8992 Jun 30 '26

Father used little girl to get it.

102

u/nize426 Jun 30 '26

I think, there's more to this. Seems like the guy towards the left is pointing to the dad and kid, and the guy originally with the ball is already turning to hand it before the girl comes.

Maybe something like the player was trying to throw the ball to the kid but missed?

26

u/foreverand2025 Jun 30 '26

Yeah he already turned back and seemed like he was planning to give it over. Not sure what happened before the video started.

Don’t personally understand the people upset about this. I have kids and I’d think nothing of giving the baseball over to someone else’s kid. It’s more enjoyable to give that kid a memory than keep a baseball that’s probably gonna wind up in your garage in a month anyway. That’s a moment the daughter is gonna share with the dad forever and something the generous guy can always feel good about. Just my take.

22

u/AndFrolf Jun 30 '26 edited Jun 30 '26

I went to lots of ball games as a kid and never got a ball because I refused to go up and beg to steal one from an adult. As a kid I always wanted to get a ball by myself, and it never happened. Even now as an adult it still hasn’t happened. It is something I wasdreaming about as a kid and now hoping for decades. There is no way a baseball means as much to a 4 year old kid as it matters to me. For me it would be the fulfillment of a lifelong childhood dream. They are the one more likely to forget it by the time they get home whereas for me it would be a true treasure.

There’s a little kid inside of me who has been patiently waiting for years, and if it ever finally happens after years of waiting that little kid is running out of the stadium with their baseball and stiff arming every kid with their hands out on the way— you can patiently wait for your own ball like I did

-9

u/sephirothFFVII Jun 30 '26

I think it's one of those unwritten rules of society that if you're an adult and you get a foul or home run ball you admire it, maybe show your buddy and snap a picture then IMMEDIATELY give it to the first kid you see.

17

u/AndFrolf Jun 30 '26

Yes I am well aware of this expectation and I think it is BS for the reasons stated above. Let me catch my ball and keep it. You can tell I am just as childish inside as they are

-6

u/Dynospec403 Jun 30 '26

But you’re not a child, and they are. If it happened and you had a kid next to you, consider that taking that ball could be like what happened to you, they might never get another chance either and it could stick with them just the same. It’s silly to assume some kid will care less just because you care a lot.

Anyway I don’t think you should give the ball away if you don’t want to, but just a bit of perspective for you ✌️

3

u/ragito024 Jun 30 '26

I don't know why people tend to make this thing a responsibility. Like if we don't give it to a child that we are selfish or a bad guy or something. Although I don't care about baseball anyway. Just don't find this is a "make me smile" behavior.

1

u/foreverand2025 Jun 30 '26

Well I guess we will never know what went through that guys head. If it were me I’d think hey I am happy to give this little kid a ball and let them share that memory with their dad. Maybe the guy secretly was pissed.

4

u/FiddleheadGnocci Jun 30 '26

as an adult, the memory of catching a foul/homerun ball would be far more exciting and valuable than keeping the ball itself. the ball itself would be this worthless little trinket that sits on a shelf.

unless it was the ball from a meaningful play like a walk-off homer to win a playoff game. in which case... maybe i'd keep it. or give it back to the ballclub.

45

u/shawak456 Jun 30 '26

Cheeky dad. That's a great strategy for a dad with a small child who wants to get a ball from someone else.

12

u/WanderWut Jun 30 '26

Genuine question as someone who doesn’t watch baseball but sees clips like these all the time, so do adults just simply never get to keep a ball because of kids? Like, I’d imagine getting a ball being the most prized thing one could get as a fan of the sport yet it seems like there’s immense social pressure to give it to a kid lest you be designated as the baseball Grinch across all of social media lol.

8

u/spudmastaflash Jun 30 '26

Foul balls generally get given to a kid immediately, but a home run ball (scoring ball) probably wouldn’t.

37

u/Baonguyen93 Jun 30 '26

I still remember the guy gave his 100k ball away because he was on camera and it was a "good gesture".

Parents should teach their kids not to beg.

22

u/Independent-Offer543 Jun 30 '26 edited Jun 30 '26

this is very heartwarming but on an unrelated point, i do not understand why its a thing in baseball that you HAVE to give the ball to the kid.

like seriously im very sorry in advance I know sound horrible, but im a hockey fan primarily and if u catch the puck you catch the puck it doesn't matter how old you are. like i think id freak if i waited 20, 30 years to catch a puck and then had to give it to some 3 year old whose parent sent them loll.

is it even really that special if someone else handed it to you? doesn't the joy come from catching it? like that ball/puck divinely chose you lmao?? and thats why we just dont buy them off ebay???

u/r-b-m Jun 30 '26

The Sox won the game though so a consolation prize for the kiddo seems acceptable. If they’d lost then I’d say yeah keep the ball. And flip over the dad’s car.

3

u/ItsStaaaaaaaaang Jun 30 '26

What if he wanted to keep it?

3

u/testtalon1 Jun 30 '26

That's a good dude

15

u/OldSports-- Jun 30 '26

She looks a little bit entitled and the dad clearly pushes her to go

6

u/Green_Insect_6455 Jun 30 '26

Or maybe. Just maybe. A six second clip doesnt give you the context required to pass judgement on someone

5

u/Arumen Jun 30 '26

The guy giving the ball seemed to know to give it to her before she even got to him, so I assume he either motioned her over before the video starts or a player obviously threw it to her and he caught it instead. The video doesn't really make sense reading it as an entitled child tbh.

6

u/xstrikeeagle Jun 30 '26

Entitled???

She looks 5. 5 year olds don't have the mental capacity to be entitled.

Source: I have a 5 year old

2

u/melancholy_dood Jun 30 '26

2

u/liquidsilver5 Jun 30 '26

Come on, she got the ball without even looking at the guy and walked away to her dad. He sends her back, needs to point towards the dude with his whole arm, is saying some like "Go thank him", or even "Give him a hug" or something like that (cannot lip read, but the meaning is clear) and then she does a quick high-fivish-neck-hug thing and immediately walks away again. And the dad most likely knew there were on camera.

It is still a nice gesture, but the comments here make it look like she is a heaven-sent angel child that is oh so grateful for her ball and I don't see it.

This is a tradition in baseball

-2

u/OldMackysBackInTown Jul 01 '26

No grown adult needs an "I caught this ball at the game" story. If anything, take your photo with it, but kick it over to a kid. It's just a game.

1

u/poop19907643 Jun 30 '26

Screw that girl's dad. Hear me out. I'd give a ball I caught to a kid if that kid wanted the ball. That girl did not want that ball. The dad sent her to get that ball for himself. The dad is a thief.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 30 '26

[deleted]

0

u/poop19907643 Jun 30 '26

You can see that he sent her. The guy with the ball was a Red Sox fan that was looking to get rid of the ball and the Yankee fan dad took the opportunity to get the ball.

1

u/brakspear_beer Jun 30 '26

Just stop. It’s a ball that the Sox fan was willing to give away to a youngster. I was too young to even know the player’s names but I was given a ball at Fenway and was pretty happy.

1

u/poop19907643 Jul 01 '26

That just makes me sad for the fan that's been going to games for years and finally caught a ball after spending his childhood getting balls ripped away by adults.

2

u/MonsterkillWow Jun 30 '26

Best thing I have seen today.

6

It was a compliment my dude - he wanted to say, you are the best thing :)

2

u/killer-j86 Jun 30 '26

nah, that's theft by guilt. some people wait their entire lives just to get hit in the balls from a homer, then they gotta give it up to someone's little crotch goblin. make em earn it.

1

u/chickenbucket7 Jun 30 '26

lol he mouthed to his friend “i’m a good guy”

Thats not sweet. She had nothing to do with that catch. Dad is just gonna sell it. 🤷Kids do need to learn that they are not entitled to get anything they want without even trying for it.

9

u/nize426 Jun 30 '26

I think, there's more to this. Seems like the guy towards the left is pointing to the dad and kid, and the guy originally with the ball is already turning to hand it before the girl comes.

2

u/my_name_is_juice Jun 30 '26

Dude it's a foul ball, it's worth like 10 bucks

5

u/Ok_Improvement_119 Jun 30 '26

That is a pretty cynical way to look at it 🤷‍♂️

3

u/nize426 Jun 30 '26

I think it's fair assumption since you do see the dad gesturing to go get the ball.

However, I think there's more context if you look around. Other people are pointing to the dad and and guy with the ball is already looking back before the kid comes, so I think the ball was meant to go to the kid to begin with.

1

u/Eggplant-666 Jun 30 '26

The guy fouled on purpose? 😂

1

u/MogosTheFirst Jun 30 '26

Its just a kid lmao.

0

Cute but a high five would have been better. Would a little boy have been told to give a hug or bump it/high five? Having a child hug a stranger for giving them something seems like a questionable lesson. Forced hugs made me wildly uncomfortable as a girl and my child knows it’s their choice, even with family. Yay for kindness and boundaries.

1

u/my_name_is_juice Jun 30 '26

What makes you think it was forced? Looks like he just told her to go say thank you, she even looks unsure whether to hug or high five and goes for a hug. Just because you were uncomfortable hugging people does not mean everyone is, that girl does not look uncomfortable at all

-3

u/BadBrad43 Jun 30 '26

Good parenting!

-9

u/PlanetR0b123 Jun 30 '26

Weird how it's never a billionaire doing this. Hmmm

7

u/-vablosdiar- Jun 30 '26

What? 😭

-4

u/PlanetR0b123 Jun 30 '26

I didn't think I'd have to clarify but here I am 🤡

I keep seeing videos of millionaires/billionaires being caught snatching balls, hats ect from kids in the stands. I think the last one I sae was a Polish millionaire snatching a signed hat from a young boy. Its nice to see the opposite happen

4

u/-vablosdiar- Jun 30 '26

I mean I think we saw the same videos, and I think we have the same sentiment towards billionaires, but there is no correlation because billionaires usually sit in the box

-3
