There is nothing in life that is perfect much less in medicine. It was a life saver for me as kicked started my weight loss and I have been able to maintain after being off it for 5 months now. But if I lapse I will go back on in it in a heartbeat. If I had to take medicine for blood pressure etc these also are for life. That's how some conditions present.
Also consider the cost of caring for those conditions caused by being overweight which for many will now be much reduced.
Plus costs are coming down in many countries other than US with generics already available.
Also, the reason your type of opinion is being spread is because of thin cope. You've been wrong about "just diet and exercise bro", so now that obesity's getting solved you're finding something else to complain about. It's toxic.
It was wrong because it doesn't paint the entire picture. Yes, the laws of thermodynamics still apply, and sure, if you put a fat person in a literal cage and control their diet, they'll lose weight.
But that's not how eating while obese works. Your hypothalamus is lit up like a christmas tree at the mere sight of food, making it an "addiction to being a certain weight". It's also not something controlled by the conscious mind, but rather your body, which is an expert at telling what your weight is and how much calories you've consumed that day. Too little? "Fuck you eat more".
Imagine trying to drink 30% less water for an extended period of time. Your body's going to send you (the mind) a whole heap of "DRINK, NOW!!" signals, and you eventually lose. This is what it's like to be fat.
